It could just be a problem with Halo loading DLC maps, it happens to me almost every time I put in the disk. Did you try looking through your maps in the custom games menu?

Do you have music playing from your HDD or from an ipod or other music storage device? It would explain the missing music, but I doubt it would explain the sound effects.

Yes, but not on the same console  If you look under Game Stats and then go to private matches, you will see that there are some recent matches including AI players. (AI can make up all of a single team, or be mixed with Human players. AI difficulty and leader on multiplayer are also customizable.)
