    Starcraft II

I am looking forward (very looking forward) to the release of Starcraft 2. Which one would you prefer? Halo Wars or Starcraft?

In my opinion, both games are very good in their own aspects. Halo Wars was the first successful RTS to come out on the console, controls and interface are spectacular. While Starcraft's gameplay and factions are very well-thought out and balanced.

If you have no idea what I am talking about or just curious about the Starcraft universe, I strongly recommend you check out this guys Youtube Channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/HDstarcraft. Along with the professional commentary on fast-paced and exciting replays of Starcraft 2, there is a lucky draw/competition going with a chance to win a key to the Starcraft 2 beta! All you have to do is subcribe!.

Please discuss on the differences between SC and HW, and don't forget to check out HDstarcraft!

    Re: Starcraft II

Halo Wars. Starcraft is pretty stupid because they try to make it difficult by building a complicated UI. It just makes the game frustrating. It also requires sick high APM over decision making, which is bad.

    Re: Starcraft II

I loved Starcraft back when I played like 8 years ago. I've heard that now it's like a professional sport and yeah, as drugis said you gotta pull stupid high apm.

I am excited for it, but battle.net better be set up so that it's casual gamer friendly. Not that I'm a casual gamer, but I'm not from Korea, so that puts me at a huge disadvantage.

    We'll see.

    Re: Starcraft II

I know where you guys are comin' from, but I really think high apm only matters if you're going for high ladder rankings.

Halo Wars has kinda babied us by making it pretty easy to get top 500 (or even 50) of a few ladders, but Starcraft is just SOO much bigger than HW that I'd be more than happy with top 1000 or whatever.

Plus, I've been playing the beta and SC2 = major, fast paced ass kickin one way or the other ^^

*whereas HW sometimes drags on due to unlimited resources

*sometimes the pace is TOO fast, as a lot of beta testers have been saying, because there are EXTREME unit counters. imagine... scarab vs jackals.

EDIT: I gotta say that the UI is really simple actually... it just takes one game's practice to remember that e = workers for protoss whereas s = workers for terran, etc.

and space bar = right d pad... double clickin' units works like in HW. there are just shortcut keys so that you don't even need to move the mouse once you've got a unit/build selected.

That's one advantage PC RTS will ALWAYS have. Shortcut keys can make a massive difference to gameplay.

    Re: Starcraft II

I don't know about you, but Starcraft's UI is pretty simple, the same goes for Starcraft II.

Map is on the left, unit data is in the middle, portrait is near the right, buttons are on the far right.

For me Starcraft would be my game of choice. It's because all the units are valuable, even if they don't seem like it.

Yeah, Protoss scouts are great. The only unit in Halo Wars that is never used is Cyclops.

    Re: Starcraft II

Its great to see different opinions of two great games. And I agree that hotkeys on the PC are probably the things that sets it apart from console strategy games, though Halo Wars did break new ground with its control scheme.

You can make a Brute Chopper to scout with if you already have a Factory up. And the first one is used to gather resources, scout, ram snipers gathering hooks, ram enemy infantry trying to get hooks and chase down Warthogs and Ghosts.

OK. So you build maybe one extra. No one ever builds a handful of them.

No one serious, or at least no one that I've ever run into.

Most beginners quit Starcraft after doing something like this.
