    Halo stuff happening now **Updated**

So, I was watching the history channel and I saw this preview of a show they're going to present this saturday or something; they were talking about many cool stuff which I dont remember, except for one that caught my attention. It was some sort or robotic arm that moves with just thinking of it, or something... I don't realy remember. Anyways, my point is, in the fall of reach, when the spartans got their MJOLNIR armor, they had to think what they were going to do to move with that armor (or something like that, correct me if I'm wrong).

    What are your thoughts?

    **Update**

I got some new info regarding this thread.

First of all, the name of the show is "That's impossible" and is on History channel.

In this new chapter, they were talking about lasers, electromagnetic bombs and energy shields.

The laser section talked about how they could create a laser so strong that it can destroy a missile in movement.

The electromagnetic bomb section talked about implementing or increasing the use of microwaves. They said that if they could detonate it in the atmosphere of a designated site, it would cause everything in that area to stop working (electromagetic stuff)

The energy shield section talked about the fourth state of the matter, which is plama. They said that currently, they could only create "cold plasma" which can only stop lasers and stuff like that. They also said that if they were to create "hot plasma" which is that of a thunder or something, that plasma could vaporize anything in contact.

And that's pretty much it for that chapter(well not really but it's almost bed time here and I'am kind of sleepy but if I don't post this now, I won't remember tomorrow). I will be updating this for every chapter, or if anyone else watches the show, you can post it here.

Ok, I think I didn't explained myself very well.

What I was trying to say is, there is this robotic arm that moves with the thought, prette similar to the MJOLNIR armor (again, correct me if I'm wrong) so I think, if I'm not wrong, that the robotic arm that moves with the thought, is a lot like the MJOLNIR armor, as described in the fall of reach.

So, what are your thoughts on this topic?

I'm just curious, you don't have to anwser if you don't want/have the time.

    I've got the time.

I think it's very plausible, since bionic replacement arms today can be controlled by the brain to a certain extent.  I think in 500 years they could have easily advanced this tech and made it seamless.

I watched some program on the history chennel, "Modern Marvels" I think. It showed a robotic suit that is controlled by a user that wears the exoskeleton. It has super strength, the user was able to lift hundreds of pounds of weights until he got bored of it. It was also incredily agile, it could climb stairs, run, and play soccer with ease. It also mentioned that the program was being funded by the military, so I thought, "Holly sh!t we're training Spartans!". The suit looked like a small cyclops, which was an early spartan armor prototype right?

The show also described those robotic ams that move by thought. They are used for amputees that have lost limbs in the army. They accually work by connecting the wires to points where the nerves on the stub still fuction. You gave the signal that would move your finger, and the arm reads the signal from your brain and recognizes it as a comand to move the finger and the arm responds by moving the finger.

Yeah, but the way science is advancing today, it could be sooner, we might won't see it, but the next generations would. And since its something very useful its most likely that they will try to implement it.

Exactly. If it can be used for replacing lost limbs, its most likely that they will look further into it. And about the little cyclops thing you said, they will most likely research it too, because they will try to use it for wars (Duh) and although it could be very dangerous, it might as well be used for heavy lifting, making constructions much more easier and faster.

    Re: Halo stuff.... happening now!?

yeah most of the stuff in the halo universe has been developed in a very rudimentary way (except the slipspace drive). prosthetic limbs, space travel, cryogenics, railguns, organ printing. but we have to advance our understandings of these fields by orders of magnitude to be at halo levels. scientific research is always overestimated in the short term and underestimated in the long term. its hard to guess when things like halo will happen because they require breakthroughs that are impossible to time.

i would also like to point out that the halo method and the current method of the whole robotic suit controlled by mind thing is different. today we connect the robot to the nerve endings. in halo they use an brain implant, a simple chip that is able to gather data from all parts of the brain, how this would work is beyond me and almost seems physically impossible.

Yeah, they just need to think outside the box to discover new things.

Everytime we see something "uncommon" in movies or video games we assume (most of the people) that it is impossible.

well first we have to better understand things like gravity, number of dimensions, and other fundamentals of physics.

Or...we could do it the fun way and engineer many different types of things we think would work and test them out on say, squirrels.
