    Unkillable scarabs

Tonight in 2v2 in back to back games we played against duel convenant.  We were Anders/Forge.  Both games they each popped out a scarab, about 10 anti-units (one made hunters the other anti-air) then the rest healers.  Our combined fully upgraded army could not even take out 1 scarab before we were totally wiped out.  We tried just about every combination we could think of and never even came close.  Any suggestions outside of a rush so they cant get a scarab made?

    Re: Unkillable scarabs

#1 attack before they get scarab and a bunch of other stuff

#2 build 2 armies of hornets then cryo and dbomb then own the first scarab. after you do that, kill the remaining engineers.

#3 build 2 full armies of tanks, then canister at the same time as you cryo the engineers. then kill one scarab, kill all the engineers and then kill the other scarab

    #4 kill thier bases

#5 locked down cobras all lined up.

    #6 full army of vultures+cryo

you can easily kill a scarab if you just cryo the engineers.

Thanks for the suggestions.  My fully upgraded cryo didn't seem to be taking down many engineers though.

you can kill the scarab before the engineers start to heal it again

It doesn't need to kill them, it just needs to stop them healing so you can kill the scarab.

That is when he brought in his vampires and destroyed my hawks.  he kept them far enough apart that I couldn't get the vampires and healers with my cryo-bomb

    Re: Unkillable scarabs

I'll probably have to stick with getting them before they can get that stuff out

theres only 10 vampiers, you 2 have 20 hornets each. who wins?

    Re: Unkillable scarabs

The problem was they each had a scarab so even when we got one down that way there was still the second one to worry about

after you killed the first one, the second one should be easy

    Re: Unkillable scarabs

You have to kill the Engineers first. If you don't, it's going to be near impossible to kill the Scarabs.

    Re: Unkillable scarabs

cyro engineers then whip out anti-vehicle units cause scarabs are vehicles and if they whip out hunters make anti-infantry cause hunters are infantry duuhhh lol

    Re: Unkillable scarabs

Somebody on another post said that the problem/advantage with Scarabs is that a Scarab with only 1% of its health left does exactly the same damage as one with full health.  Whereas a multi unit army that is almost decimated experiences a proportionate drop in offensive capacity.

I've had this idea.  What if once the Scarab had lost 70% of its health it's power began to fade, causing it's beam to become weaker.  The full beam would be restored it survived and got healed.  There could even be a change in the graphic effect.  Weakened beam could look like the Locust's overdrive beam (and be of similar power).

I dont mean to, but i knw im going to, but this is just called being bad....

I mean, in 3 v 3 i find it easy enough to take care of scarabs by myself, let alone with a team mate, and with only 2 scarabs attacking.

But as i dont like to think of myself as a complete ass, heres how i tend to deal with them

    Scarab = Super unit spam

Scarabx2 = Cobra spam w Super units as backup, like dropping in ODST or quick building hawks, def not grizzles

Scarab + engineers = Super unit spam/Cobra spam (depends on his other units) with a small wolverine side dish (like 2 or 3) just as bait, cause he'll panic when he starts to lose engineers giving you a window of opportunity

    Scarabx2 engineers = Panic

Your situation = You would definably need team work. Forge would need to get some cobras and a couple, not to many wolverines and set them up so the scarab will walk into them, preferably in a small place so one will get stuck behind the other if you can, since cobras have a larger range and handeling one at a time would be much easier. Anders should just outright hawk spam. Dont even worry about engineers, there no problem at all because unless theres like 20 of them they mean nothing in a firefight. First you cryo the anti air units, and if he only had like 10, then your cryo should do a hefty job, finish the rest od with hawks then focus on the scarab.

Hunters dont matter unless they have an assualt beam but remember, he cant build more until you kill the ones hes got. focus on the scarab with everything while the woulvos will pick of engineers. Teamwork and comunication is key here, and having strong counters agains heavy vehincles is what you want, as when you have more than 1 scarab Grizzlies become useless and expensive.

    Re: Unkillable scarabs

Keep in mind that your cryo, regardless of how upgraded it is, is very ineffective against engineers, so dont waste it unles he has no other air units, which means you would cryo the scarab anyway. Also always make killing his air yur main focus tho, not the scarab, as stupid is it sounds. His air, if you UNSC, will be your undoing when fighting a scarab, which is why i always build 1 scarab and 15 banshees, cause its more effective than 2 scarabs agains UNSC
