    The Rank Problem

    1. If you are one of the few highly ranked players still playing and you play a lower ranked player, you gain virtually nothing for winning, but a drop a lot for losing.

    2. Therefore, all high level playing does is risk your rank.

    3. Therefore, you are inclined to stop playing.

    4. Whereupon the number of highly ranked players still playing decreases, and with it the odds of fighting one.

Conclusion: There has to be an incentive for highly ranked players to play lowly ranked players, or there won't BE highly ranked players.

The simplest solution, I think, is to make it so that if players do not play games often enough, they automatically lose rank.  This rapidly eliminates inactive but elite players from the leaderboards, which causes active but weak players to rise upwards, which then increases the odds that active but elite players will fight games that have good returns.  In the mean time, they have the incentive to play now and then or lose their rank.

I think it would work something like this:

4-7 days of inactivity: 1 rank per day

8-14 days of inactivity: 2 ranks per day

15-21 days of inactivity: 3 ranks per day

and so on.  This would act as a strong and permanent leaderboard wipe effect.

me and lazy frog ran into twin bird while doing it, and came inches from winning. which is really depressing cuz the gauntlet is about the dumbest thing you can do in 2v2.

ya it is but suepr turtling is also the funest thing you can do in 2v2, docks is best =D

really annoying how I tried super turtling in 2v2 and 3v3 before and all failed because we sat there for 20 mintues with every upgrade in the freaking world and decided to attack and all the enemy has is some PT tanks not even full pop and a fully upgraded POR.

    Re: The Rank Problem

To copy my reply from a thread with an identical concept...

One word: No. If I stop playing for a month, I'll still be able to destroy anyone below level 25. Blowing up fine gentlemen is only entertaining for so long.

Instead of rank degeneration, I'd rather have rank fading. If you don't play X games per week, relative to leaderboard position, you're removed from the leaderboards. You still have your rank, but you need to play in that playlist to keep it there. No more boosting then never playing in the list again. The number of games scales with your relative position, with 5 games per week needed for everyone, up to 25 games per week for the top player. You must always face a significant variety of opponents in these games. At least 1 different team/player for every 5 games. If you're required to play 10 games and play the same person 10 times, you don't show up on the leaderboards.

This is a win-win. Boosters don't get recognition while it encourages people to play in their high-level lists, and inactive players are taken out of the food chain.

it works, most of the maps are pretty easy to set up a walled defence. also terminal moraine is the best map to turtle even if you are seperated, you can last forever on the side bases.

    Re: The Rank Problem

every account in the top 100 of every playlist should be forced to play atleast 10 games a month or lose .5 trueskill, this avoids spots being camped by those who quit especially those with multiple accounts which made one months got them into the top 100 then quit. they are just wasting leaderboard space. And forcing those stains on the front page of 1v1 (DHL The Prophet, DC s p a r t a, Rushz) to play legit would cause them to to most likely lose thier rank.
