    The Chronicles of A Marine

First Section: Early life and Boot.

    Chapter 1 Beginings.

    Military calendar unknown

Earth, my home where I had grown up on. About fourteen I graduated High school a little bit earier then most thanks to extra school activities and classes. This made my parents proud, as I was not the oldest but one of the brightest in the family. Being raised in Russia meant the cold was easy to deal with and the low temperature helped me maintain a healthy life style.

My parents pushed me into collage asking with pleadings, then they tried to make me go by force. I suggested I should go to the fleet academy. They took many gifted minds such as myself, and shaped into Captains and crews of UNSC ships. I am glad I gave that up or else I would have died a swift death to covenant ships.

    Chapter 2 Boot camp.

    Military calendar unknown.

"Wake up maggots!", Usenski turned in his bed to try ignoring the Seargeant. Another scream was heard that jolted Usenski onto his feet, looking around Usenski's memory flashed back this was boot camp. He had signed up for this hell because Usenski wanted to show everyone that he could do it. All his teachers and friends even his family laughed at him. The echo of the taunting laughs bore into him and Usenski was in a rage.

Usenski sprang out of bed and swiftly looked around for the origin of the scream, what Usenski saw was horrible the seargeant had smashed a plastic night stick into aonther recruits bed. Everyone was starting to stir, they all rose out of bed and started at the Seargeant.

"Anymore of you maggots want to sleep!?", The seargeant asked the half-awake recruits. Usenski already knew what to do and running to the shower with great speed still trying to pull of his clothes.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The punishment for the recruits was great, the drill instructer whose name was Dale had run them up and down for a good while, down gravel roads and such. Afterwards the recruits were forced to do push-ups, jumping-jacks, and so forth the exercises went on. At the end of the day Usenski was beat as he ran into the bunks and forced his aching muscles to work.

The day had gone and pasted the sun had set on the peaceful planet of Earth. Usenski was exhausted after the running and exercises the drill instructer made the recruits do. As Usesnki fell into bed he felt that this was only the begining of his career.

    Chapter 3. To be broken.

    Military calendar Unknown.

Usenski and his now new recruit brothers were run and drilled everyday nonstop. Everyday Dale made Usenski do more push-ups, more jumping-jacks, and more other vigorous activities.

Usenski ran with the platoon, they had to keep pace and if they did not 100 jumping jacks followed by pushups. For everytime they stopped the platoon got another exercise added to the already long list of excerises.

"Platoon, halt!", the drill instructer halted them all, the platoon was already on the ground most could not go on. Only a few stood and did the jumping jacks Dale the instructer had ordered them to, Usenski being one of them. Usenski was of russian decent and was a bit larger then the average recruit, but he too felt the burn of the arebic excerises bestowed on them by the demanding drill instructer. Out of the whole platoon consisting of 50 men only ten stood still counting off jumping jacks.

"Recruits stop, I think I have found my squad leaders!", drill instructer Dale screamed and all the men turned to the men still doing excerises. Usenski felt eyes bore into him, he did not like the feeling of being watched and kept going. As the ten standing finished their jumping jacks two collapsed from utter exhaustion. Usenski went on with the push ups gasping for air at every second he did not sound off.  The pain was insane Usenski had long lost feeling in his arms and legs but he kept going his body was near collapsing.

More and more fell until Usenski and three others continued with the excerises. Usenski had thrown up already but did not stop. The drill instructer kept going yelling, screaming for them to continue. As they finished the final exercise Usenski barely stood up and only by sheer willpower was still awake from the excerise. A feeling of anger and pride filled him. Anger bored at his loved ones for not believing in his abilities and pride for the fact he was one of the last ones standing.

A bark came, "Recruits!", it came from Dale the instructer.

"Yes sir!", Usenski and the last three stood at attention and replied with this.

"Fall out!", Instucter Dale yelled with a hint of pride in his voice for the recruits.

    Chapter 4. Games Part 1

    August 27. 2523

Usenski stood in awe staring at the gaint acres of environment from the pelican. This was the part where the recruits had to play a game of survival Dale explained. He arranged the recruits in teams of fives, Usenski was with squad two and their leader. Dale also gave them paintball guns and spread them apart each in a different environment.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Usenski hopped down and took point from the pelican, he waited for his squad. He watched as his squad jumped down with no intents on fighting hard, they looked bored and out of it. The pelican elevated and then flew off towards the base. Usenski look around he had not properly greeted anyone of the recruits so he walked over to his half-ass squad.

"Names Vlad.", Usenski began this ancient greeting ritual and extended his hand to the first recruit that was closest to him.

"Piss off, Vlaaad!", mocked the first recruit who held his gun pointed at Usenski's leg. The others looked at each other and laughed. Usenski got angry real quick, but he remembered squad leader 101 be calm and polite to your teammates.

"Come on man, I'm squad leader and if you want to make it through this we better work together.", Usenski replied to the angered recruit in a calm and steady voice.

"Don't tell us what to do, just because you can do more push ups then us!", retorted another recruit. Usenski glanced around and stared the recruit down, he was not going to take their crap he had to put and end to this and show them now or never.

"That does not matter if you don't listen we are not going to win!", Usenski replied swiftly and bitterly, but that only angered the recruit. Walking up to Usenski raised a hand to smash it into Usenski's face. Usenski squared up but the recruit fell in midstride and started shaking like a fish from some kind of fire. Usenski's training mind went on and he dropped to the floor.

"Get down now!", Usenski yelled, but the first recruit Usenski tried to reason with also fell from red blood paint splashing everywhere. Usenski knew this was where he and his team would come together or fall apart.

    PART 2

The red paintballs exploded like miniture grenades and painted all the leaves and trees in proximity a blood red color. Usenski watched as the training paint hardened on the first recruit suit and he could barely move, this meant death not literally but in the war game. Usenski quickly thought the recruit was dying fast and another recruit had his left arm incapacitated. An idea struck him they could wait out the barrage and then get painted completly or they could move.

"Everyone be ready to move on three!", the recruits who were not painted looked at one another, it was either sit here and chew on dirt or make a break for it. Usenski Primed a flash grenade, this flash grenade had only an tenth of the power a real flash bang had but never the less it would work. He counted, the paint kept up everywhere. So there was only two things possible Usenski thought either they took turns firing or they were firing all together, if it was the second one then they would run out soon. Forgeting his thought he chucked the flash bang in the direction where the fire originated from. A second later a loud bang filled the crisp Earth air.

"Three!", Usenski screamed and ran for the creek and dove into the water, two more splashes entered the water afterwards. Usenski clawed his way to the top and poked his head out, the other two recruits followed, he signaled them to move into the overgrown part of the creek where the plantation would hide them. It took about 30 seconds to get to the hiding place. Usenski got there first, then the two recruits swap up.

"*** you saved our asses back there!", the first recruit with a tan face spoke up. Usenski put his finger up, a gesture of be quiet.

"Hey Vlad, what are we going to do about the other two.", the other recruit broke in with a whisper. Usesnki thought about it, he had left his squadmates behind which did show a bad sign of leadership. If he hadn't thought quick his squad could have been dead in real combat or out of the war game. Another idea popped into his head.

"We'll use them as bait.", Usenski replied quickly, the two recruits looked at each other. Usenski quickly explained the plan that the other team would come down and police the downed members of his squad and finish them for good. They both nodded and approved. Usenski and his remaining squad members exited the creek with as little noise as possible, and began to walk back. Usenski spread his two members apart, he and his teammates were about fifty feet apart and had a wide range of a firing angle. The squad snuck all the way back.

As they began to near it they heard voices. Usenski looked over a bush and saw the other team were walking nonchalantly to their easy win to police supplies. Usenski had told the his two remaining squadmates that his signal was when he fired his MA5B, the hail from their cross fire should pin them down. The team walked over and looked at the two injured recruits one raised his paintbal version of the MA5B and was about to unload. Usenski squeezed the trigger in bursts careful not to let his ammo drop to fast, if he emptied his clip to fast he might not get a chance to reload before they found him.

The first few bursts contacted and hit two recruits in the upper body, direct dead on hits. Usenski watched them scatter and try to duck down but his two other squadmates managed to pin the rest down. Usenski stood up and raised his hand signaling he was circling around. His squadmates moved up on each side right behind him. As Usenski walked up he saw both of his squadmates were still officially alive. Without hesitating Usenski ran up and put some rounds in every other of the enemies squad members. As Usenski walked up to the last one he heard a russle and turned around in time to see one of his downed teammates spray a enemy with his sidearm. The downed teammate had saved him from the other team.

"Thanks I owe you one.", Usenski breathed with relief. The other two squadmates ran up and began to help the downed teammates by using the medikit given to them by the drill seargeant to remove the hardened paint from the suits.

"No we owe you one.", the recruit replied with laugh.

"After we patch you two up we are policing their weapons and supplies and moving on.", Usenski order and as he said their he jerked his head towards the fallen enemy team, their suits hardened to the point where the enemy could only breath and watch.

"Yes sir!", was the reply from his squad and they set to work. Usenski started on sorting out the weapons and the supplies they had recieved from the firefight. After the two recruits were patched up Usenski got up and gave out the supplies he and the tan squadmate sorted out to the team ;six extra flashbangs, four extra paint grenades, two and a half dozen extra paintball ammo for their MA5B, and some kind of paint sniper with four clips. Not bad for a first time Usenski thought.

"Sir by the way name's Corey.", the injured marine who was first shot down answered. Usenski took his hand and shook it.

"Name's Martin", replied the tan squadmate Usenski took his hand and shook it as well.

"Jason, nice to be on a squad like this", commented the other uninjured soldier, Usenski did the same for him by shaking his hand.

"Tyler, and sorry for causing a commotion.", the last squadmate spoke up after everyone had introduced themsleves. Usenski nodded with approval. Usenski stood up and so did his team, Usenski motioned for them to come with and they followed him to the checkpoint towards and abandoned bunker southwest.

    So getting better or what?

    PART 3

Traveling all the way from their drop point to the rally point Usenski and his squad were the second to finish Not bad for having a rough uneasy start.

"Congradulations recruits you are now UNSC marines!", drill instructer Dale screamed as Usenski's squad passed through the finish line in the middle of the region. Their reward was great a three week leave and off duty.

"*** man this is great, we are marines of the UNSC a huge central government that has so much fire power it can level a solar system in less time we can finish our drinks", blurted out Corey in his drunken state, Usenski couldn't deny this thought he was right.

"Man if we ever meet any alien bastards that think they can take us, they got another thing coming!", yelled Tyler as he stumbled out of his bar stool and stood up still whooping and hollering about the UNSC's glorious power. This made Usenski feel happy, that the team had bonded and were screaming that they could take anything. It could have been the alcohol or the spirit of the UNSC, but next thing Usenski knew he was standing and screaming some song from  way back during the start of the new millenum called Its The Final Countdown with his whole team. The first one to fall over in their drunken adventure was Martan who fell over after another half bottle of Vodka.

They sang more songs but something made Usenski feel that the first song they sang had some meaning to it like a clock had been started and something was coming. Usenski pondered this though as he and Corey lifted Martan and with Jason right behind them began stumbling out of the bar on Earth. Usenski as the cab pulled up next to the squad Usenski opened the door with his free arm and through martan in. The car was a mini van cab so there was enough room for the rest of them. As Jason squeezed in right next to Usenski the cab began to hum next thing Usenski knew he was on the highway heading back to boot. They would regret drinking so much the next day though.

Usenski kept pondering the thought of premonition as the cab pulled up next to the boot camp and the squad got out all intoxicated. Stumbling in to the barracks with his squad Usenski was still lost in thought,  the old song must have meant something but what? As he got undressed he climbed into his  bed he dismissed the thought. His vision was going to come true..

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Two years later

    Chapter 5 Gym

    2525 UNSC Atlas

Usenski and his squad over the coarse of their long boot camp had gotten better and better. They were the best squad their class had to offer, and still getting better. When they were not running drill exercises and simulations, they were at the gym hitting the wieghts. The boot had thaught Usenski and his squad how to become great tools of destruction, no ODSTs but none the less progedies at what they did. It was good serving with his squad in the UNSC and traveling to far off worlds. His squad had already fought against the insurrestionists a couple of times. Now was their turn to take leave and the only ship close enough to pick them up was the UNSC Atlas.

When they were picked up from Jericho VII they were told the ship was just patrolling the Lambda Serpentis System for Rebels. Usenski and his squad told them they were done with the mission and it was their shore leave. The crew happily welcomed them aboard except they were warned to stay away from the medical bay and certain other areas of the ship. Usenski didn't question the orders and just hit his bed and fell asleep.

Waking up a good twelve hours later Usenski stumbled out of the quarters and into the public showers were everyone showered. As Usenski walked in the locker it was colored white and stealish including the lockers themselves. Not stopping to see who was in there Usenski headed straight for the locker that was assigned to him a half a day earlier. As he began to shed his clothing, Usenski noticed that no one was in here and he was alone. Looking around as he shed the last of his clothing the grey corp issued standard socks he got up and took his towel from the locker. He began to fold his clothes and put them away, after he fit the last of his clothes inside he shut the locker tight and locked it.

Walking to the shower Usenski could hear his footseps as if he was in a catherdral, the echo subsided as he entered the showers and turned on the cool water. Usenski began to turn the water to a steady warm soothing trickle, the fighting had got to him. Usenski was so tired and into his shower that he did not notice someone walk in. He finally heard the doors slam and a huge burst of sound hit the room. Caution was Usenski's first reaction as he turned to see who had walked in. Looking at the clock Usenski noticed that it was in Earth time four in the morning. Nobody was up but him and maybe the crew, Usenski had saw that on his way to the showers no one was up the carrier was a matter of speaking a ghost ship.

Ignoring his caution he peaked out from the shower door way just in time to see a large figure pass into the rows of lockers. It looked womenly to Usenski from what the brief glimpse he got. Usesnki walked back in to the warm shower and just stood there in a relaxed posture his broad shoulders slumped, head angled down, and his groggy red eyes on his feet. With the water running down his body Usenski began to wake up, finally he stood straighter and reached for a bar of soup when he noticed her finally. Turning his head a women was standing in the shower right next to him, he stood their in awe as she was washing her hair. What had caught Usenski was not what would usually get a man, for Usenski had learned to control his sudden urges in the shower greatly after all he had to shower with women in the army to. No what had caught his eyes was how big.

Usenski just stood their in marvel at the female, she was a full head taller then him and Usenski stood 6'0'. Her body was big as well, Usenski took pride in working hard during his time in boot but also at the gym he had forged his body into a deadly rock hard tool. Comparing himself to her, he seemed very tiny, her chest was twice the broadness of his, arms three times in size of his, legs as big as his hips easily. Trying to shake his gaze Usenski just could not, she made all his years of training like a waste of time. She had finished washing her long black hair and she caught his eyes and turned.

"Hello.",  the females voice was pretty, friendly, but also somewhat deep. Usenski just nodded like a deer in head lights as she waved her hand to him. She finished washing her hair and moved on. Finally breaking his transe Usenski began to wash himself quickly. In a few minutes Usenski was done and drying off she was doing the same.

"So uh..what forces are you in?", Usenski broke the silence with a straight forward question.

"Its .........classified.", she replied with a long pause and then a straight forward answer assisted with a smile.

"Huh what level classified like ONI?", Usenski tried to spark a conversation as they were both walking to their own lockers.

"......I guess you could say that.", she hesitated not sure if allowed to answer the type of question. They sat down her locker only a foot away from his.

"Huh you look in great shape...better then me!", Usenski shot out a joke to see if it would hit a soft spot.

"Thanks!", the female responed with a chuckle. Usenski hadn't noticed but she walked funny, not bad funny but different like a graceful butterfly.

"Well since you can't tell me what your in could you tell me your name at least?, Usenski was at least determined to find out her name.

"Kelly.", she replied with a smile once again aimed at Usenski, as they both finished dressing Usenski stood up.

"Well its nice to meet you Kelly, name's Usenski.", replied Usenski. He then proceeded to stick out his arm out for a hand shake. She looked at him stood up and took it, squeezed it tight enough for a man's grip, and shook it once.

"Well its been real nice, but I have to run sorry bye!", as they finished the handshake Usenski said his goodbyes and went out the door towards the ships gym. He kept pondering his conversation on his way towards the ships gym it was still very early so he would be alone or so he thought.

Upon entering the gym Usenski spotted a couple of other soldiers on the other side where the bench was. Thinking quickly what day it was, Usenski figured it was arms, soldiers, and chest day. He set off towards the soldiers in the far end. Usenski had always been very sociable so upon walking closer to the soldiers he began to wave.

"Hey you mind if I hit the wieghts a bit with you.....", Usenski had begun to trail his sentence when he noticed that the soldiers just like Kelly were all abnormal. They all dwarfed him in their masculenity and size. One turned towards him as he got closer with great speed and quickness and the others looked up from their workouts.

"Hey there do you guys mind if I hit the wieghts with you?", asked Usenski as he looked the first gaint in his hazel eyes. He looked back at his presumable squadmates then back again at Usenski.

"Only if you can handle it", laughed the gaint with Hazel eyes.

"Well lets see if I can then!", Usenski retorted. The rest of the gaints laughed.

"What is your name then?", asked the first gaint.

"Usenski, what's yours?", Usenski replied with an answer and a question.

"My name is Kurt.", replied the hazel eyed gaint.

"Well Kurt are you going to invite me to dinner or are we going to hit the wieghts?", Usenski cracked a joke to see if he could pierce the still atmosphere.

"Yes let's start then!", Kurt laughed as did the other gaints. Usenski could see his joke caused ripples of luaghter in the gaints. Well Usenski thought at least now I know they won't eat me. The day dragged on as Usenski worked out with the gaints. Usenski was right in thinking of them as superior to himself, in every machine they surpassed him by hundreds of pounds by the end of the workout Usenski was breathing heavy but not giving up. Usenski saw more and more gaints appear, even Kelly. Spotting him she walked over to his group.

"Hello there.", Kelly greeted everyone and then turned to a tired sweating Usenski nodding in apporval.

"So how did you get here the gym is closed off to...normals.", Kelly asked she pondered before saying normals as if unsure what to classify Usenski as.

"He has been here training with us!", Kurt jumped to Usenski's defense, Usenski felt caught between a tug of war between his orders and his curiosity.

"Calm down Kurt I was only joking!", Kelly replied as she bumped Kurt with her's.

"What should we do then?", said Linda as she looked up from her bench.

"Lets not tell anyone its nice not being isolated since you know the whole thing with John.", Kelly said with a look of mischieve.

The workouts continued peroidically as Usenski somehow managed to sneak in multiple times to workout with these new soldiers. It continued for days and Usenski liked the company as his team was really lazy and did not want to get up or were just plain to lazy to even walk past the mess hall. Usenski's workouts were cut short one day thought quite abruptly.

"What are you doing here!!", a voice boomed from at the end of the gym as Usenski finished his three hundred fifty workout with the help of Kurt. He stood up as the officer began to walk over to him.

"Sir lifting wieghts sir!", Usenski stopped saluted and held at attention after noticing that the officer was an ONI spook.

"So I see who gave you permission to be here, this gym is closed off to everyone?", the spook asked with a slight sound of dislike in his voice.

"Sir I did not know sir!", Usenski replied briskly and swiftly.

"Well now you know get out of here befor-", the officer spoke with a rising voice which was cut off by a silent order.

"Halsey, I am terrible sorry for disturbing your soldiers but this marine was being a pest!", the officer spoke with an apologitic voice to a person somewhere behind Usenski.

"I asked my soldiers not to be disturbed, this soldier is not distrubing them you are!", a female voice spoke from somewhere behind again with a cast iron tone of authority in her voice.

"You can leave now!", she spoke again Usenski began to shift uneasy and started to walk towards the door with the ONI spook.

"Not you!", the voice stopped Usenski a few inches from the door. The ONI agent did not say another word and walked out.

"Stand down soldier!",the voice spoke again directly behind Usenski. He turned around not at attention anymore.

"What is your name?", the female asked as Usenski looked directly at her. She was dressed in a lab coat and pants, with glasses on her eyes.

"Usenski ma'am!", Usenski did not know to salute or not he stood there feeling stupid.

"I see, I have been watching you socialize with my soldiers!", the female replied she studied him with her eyes.

"No ma'am I have just been lifting wieghts with them.!", Usenski replied. She stood their studying him with eyes from behind her glasses.

Ma'am may I ask you a question?", Usenski spoke up to the female. She looked at him again with a somewhat amused eyes.

"You may as I am no officer.", her reply coat Usenski off guard he thought she was another ONI spook.

"What are your soldiers, they are way to strong and tall to be ordinary humans?", Usenski asked peering into her eyes for some sort of answer.

"I am sorry Usenski it is classified I cannot tell you.", she said in a cool voice which also threw Usenski in a confused state of who she could be.

"Soldier you are dismissed, and I am sorry but that ONI agent was right you are not allowed back here.", she looked at Usenski again with part sorry eyes part eyes filled with a devotion.

"It's alright I was staying here on burrowed time anyway.", Usenski smiled which spread to the female, she smiled in return. He waved to Kurt, Kelly and all the other soldiers he had begin to like, they waved back the strange female waved to him to. Usenski walked out and the door behind him shut.

As Usenski walked to the mess hall he ran into his teammates.

"Where have you been man!", Jason asked as he leapt on Usenski and threw his arms around him.

"Yeah Oh great squad leader we've been looking for you everywhere!", Corey said as he playfully punched Usenski while Jason held him.

"If we didn't find you we would have had to leave you here!", Martin said as he jumped on Usenski as well.

"What do you mean?", Usenski asked as he shoved Jason and Martin with a huff.

"Didn't you hear man, Tyler said as he helped Usenski up off the floor, we're being transferred!",

"Where?", Usenski grunted as he got up, days of working out made him sore.

"Some new ship called the Everest.", Martin said helping Jason off the ground from their engagment.

"Sounds like my kind of ship!", Corey talked over Martin.

"When are we to be transferred?", Usenski asked as he dusted himself and began to walk to the mess hall with his squad.

"When we arrive back at Reach.", Tyler spoke hurrying after Usenski.

"Well before we do I want to get some grub whose with me?", Usenski asked. The whole squad took off to get to the mess hall first.

Well, it's off to a very good start. Can you please try and space out the new chapters, or else make the chapter *Insert number* parts in bold? That way we can distinguish without it getting too cramped.

Ugh... okay, I haz some advice for the author. Instead of making them all new chapters, just space them out with a little row of stars (******) and go on ahead. So this whole post is like one chapter.

    Example:

Re: The Chronicles of A Marine

I feel it's only fair to be honest; I'm having a hard time getting into this. A full review would take a very long time for me, but a few things that push me away are:

    • I feel the story moves too fast, with not enough character development.
    • Lines seem cliche and day-time drama.
    • Emotions are dry
If you would like, I could try to Beta this for you. I'm not saying give up, I'm saying keep trying. It is hard to write without creating a Mary Sue or Johnny Perfect - though Twilight seemed to pull it off well.

Re: The Chronicles of A Marine

    SECOND SECTION HARVEST

    Chapter 7 Covenant?

    2526

    Above Harvest UNSC ship Everest

The fighting had stopped, the alien forces has been subdued as it seemed and the UNSC Everest was still here. The new UNSC fleet arrived at harvest to take it back under the command of Vice Admiral Cole. There was a large skrimishes between the UNSC ships and the new alien ships. They called themselves the covenant and tasked themselves with destroying all of humanity or that is what Usenski could piece together from the small amount of intel mixed with gossip.

Staring around the troop bay in the UNSC ship Everest it was extreamly spacious and roomy. Usenski's gaze fell back down to their own little corner of the bay where him, his squad, and a platoon of UNSC marines sat. Hours ago there was sirens wailing and the distinct sound of explosions, everyone was scurring around to get ready in a hurry. The lieutenents and higher officers barked orders to the troops to get prepared and there was going to be a fight. There was one, but not for the troops it was a ship-to-ship battle and there was nothing the marines could do.

The sounds of explosions hitting the Everest had ended, even the fleet-com line was silent. The tension was static mixed with a calm sirenity. No sounds no nothing except for the ruslting of un-easy boots of marines. For a huge troop bay in a large UNSC ship things were quiet the troops sat there looking around, and at each other.

    ---------------------------

The standard MA5B given to Usenski was put together and cleaned. With nothing to do Usenski had order his squad to clean their weapons and check their gear. The only way to be sure they could put up a fight against these alien baddies was if they were at least prepared. His squad had cleaned and disassembled their weapons at least five times and they seemed functional. A door opened at the entrance to the vehicle bay and everyone looked up. Not one trooper said a word. From all the way in the back all Usenski could see was an officer giving orders to a Colonial. The Colonial suluted and the man walked out.

Everyone began to rise from their sitting positions and stretch their legs. Usenski kept still and watched the Colonial give some orders to the higher officers, they suluted him and began to walk around the troop bay.

"Saddle up marines your going down to harvest!", a booming aphespeaker echoed throughtout the bay, the voice of the Captain.

Everything became a commotion once more and marines got up and loaded themselves into pelicans. The tanks were also being loaded around on the pelicans and other arnaments were attached aswell to give the flying birds more firepower against more dangerous threats.

"Get your asses in gear soldiers!", a Seargeant walked by Usenski's corner.

    "Yes sir!", the marines replied.

Usenski and his squad got up and began to walk towards the pelican. Without saying anything thing they strapped themselves in and nodded towards each other. Usenski nodded back  the Pelican door bay closed. This was going to be one bumpy ride...

    Chapter 8 Harvest now

    UNSC ship Everest

The platoon of marine sat in the pelican its bay was specifically enlarged for the ability to carry more troops. Five minutes passed in the silent pelican. A green light appeared in the small compartment, the pelican was all of a sudden in free-fall. Usenski was bouncing a little in his seat the ride was rigidy and shook. The hard fast drop must have ment something for the pelicans or else they wouldn't be going this fast.

"Got enemies on our six hang on tight!", the pilots voice came on in the red lit room. Usenski looked at his squad not good all the marines were eyeing each other, no one knew what could happen hundreds of miles above the planet Harvest. One good hit they could all be cooked maybe. The fear of dying was making Usenski nervous, the fear of not knowing what was going on was worse. The pelican began to flip, Usenski flipped up and down in his seat the Gs were increasing.

"May day we got hostiles on our six I repeat hostiles on our six we need and escort over!", the pilot's voice went over the troop filled pelican-bay once more. Usenski thought of how her voice sounded the pilot was screaming and panicking that wasn't a good sign.

"Copy that Longswords in bound we got your six bravo 29!", some distant pilot's voice came on over the channel.

Every marine let out the breath they were holding as a sign of relief. The ride stabilized more and the pelican wasn't spinning anymore. This was a great improvement. Usenski looked at his squad relief plastered on their faces.

"Thanks boys we'll fly the rest of the way!"

They were safe for now rough first incersion Usenski thought. The pelican bumpy ride smoothed out and was now peaceful somehow. Taking off his helmet Usenski wiped his sweat of his forehead.

Don't worry man we'll make it through this!", Jason put his hand on his shoulder. Usenski nodded in a reply, he had to keep himself together as the squad leader he had to keep his squad together.

    "Alright marines were here!'

The marines looked around as the bay light turned green and the bay door began to open. A frigid wind blew straight into the bay, the marines flinched and put on their masks. Usenski sliiped on his own mask over his face. The wind blasted for several seconds but between the bursts of gust Usenski caught snow and ice everywhere. This wasn't harvest anymore it was a frozen hell. A murmer ripped throught the marines: what happened was the most commen two words.

"Marines I'll drop you off at base camp and then I am out of here!", the female pilots voice cracked in the open bay over the gust.

The pelican dropped altitude and the ground became visible. Several seconds later the pelican was three feet above the ground. Usenski unhooked his seatbelt first and jumped down, safety off, and ready for action.

    Chapter 9 Base Camp

As he hopped dow from the pad Usenski noticed he was at base camp. Relizing the mistake he made Usenski switched off his safety and looked around. The rest of the platoon came down from the pad their boots made clanking noises as they marched off. Usenski looked around to find his teammates. Noticing them get off last Usenski strode over to them. His teammates looked at him, he stode up to them and nodded. The team formed a pack and walked together in silence behind the platoon.

The snow and wind howled as the now hellish terren spanned. The team walked with their boots crunching on the ice and frigid snow. The base camp where they were had landed was at the base of a mountain and surronded by a gaint plaing. The mountain was the first one, it began a chain of mountains that streched several hundred kilometers to the North. The camp itself had a gaint armory at the base and two firebases to right and left side. Pass the bases were vehicle bays, barracks, and even a mess hall. The drop of pad was located in the middle with a full control air pad.

Pass the bases and armories a barb fenced curled around the base in a square set up. As another set up defense special designed JOTUNs dug multiple trenche systems to protect the base camp. The trenches had also built in large bunkers which provided more firepower and turret support at several key locations. One was setup at the frontline of trenches and two on its sides spanning half a kilometer apart.

The team walked through the snow behind the platoon. No one talked. They hadn't got there orders. The platoon's Seargeant Miller was walking ahead to the command center at the foot of the mountain. Stopping he turned around.

"Listen up, high ranking officers come with me, the rest of the platoon gather in the vehicle bay in one hour. I will give you all your orders when we return be prepared. Till then dismissed!",

Everyone dispersed to barracks and other places, a few even headed towards the vehicle bay early. His team gather around him.

"Sir what are doing?", Jason asked. Usenski looked around.

"I don't mind what you guys do either, but first lets get to the vehicle bay and out of the cold.".

"I second that!", Tyler commented. The team trekked across the base. Besides a few marines working on scorpions and hornets outside the vehicle bay and a few others running erandes everyone else was inside.

"Sir do you know why this place is so heavily defended?", Corey asked looking around.

"Haven't you read the UNSC Manual and regulations like I asked my whole team too?", Usenski kept walking.

"You already know corey doesn't read sir!", Tyler laughed.

The team walked up to the vehicle bay and opened the door. They walked inside, the heat radiating from the vehicles steamed everywhere. The team took off there ruck sacks and extra layer of clothing. Everyone set up next to a few warthogs. Corey sat down with and threww off his boots.

    "*** its hot in here!"

"Nah Corey its just me!", Tyler sat down next to him.

Usenski sat down next to his squad.

"Get comforatable squad, thats an order!", Usenski smiled.

    Chapter 10 First contact

A couple of hours had gone by the squad had set down and played cards. While Usenski talked to a Commander about what his squads mission was Corey had beat them all in cards. They owed him a good fifty dollars of our standard time. Something which would never be paid.

"What have you heard so far Commander?", Usenski asked.

"Well there is fighting by a town several miles away from here nothing big."

"Is that our first stop sir?".

"Yes your squad and two others will be taken with a pelican there in 15 so you better pack your gear."

    "Understood sir!".

    "Dismissed Seargeant."

The squad had heard the orders from a distance and got up to pack. They got out duffle bags and several other equipment. Several minutes went by and the squad was packed and ready for their first engagment on Harvest.

The Pelican was waiting outside as the hollowing wind blasted the terrian Usenski's squad came out the hanger. They jogged to the pelican and took their seats.

"Sir why is it so cold on Harvest?", Martin looked up from his duffle bag.

"The Covenant did something to the planet the effect caused a winter.", Usenski lifted his protection gear over his mouth and replied.

The rest of the time was quiet as the squad strapped in. Two other squads were sitting with them. The squads looked just like Usenski's green. The pelicans lifted off and began to fly towards there destination. The whole bay shook as the marines prepared for the weather. To prepare for the harsh weather they had masks and goggles over their eyes that were part of their helmets. This combined with thermal insulilating clothing made them close to impervous to the cold.

Several minutes passed when the pelican landed. Usenski hopped off and waited for the rest of the squads. Their orders were to refit the company at the town with fresh soldiers. Since it was hard to get troops to the town because of the conditions and the status of the fleet. The company had to secure the town till more reinforcments could arrive. Which was five or more days.

When they jumped out they were atop a rather long but short building. The building itself was three football fields long but only five stories short. Usenski looked around and saw an ODST standing waiting for the squads.

"You from base camp?", he asked in a grizziled voice.

"Yes we are.", Usenski replied. The ODST unpolorized his visor.

    "Follow me.",

The trooper turned around and motioned them to follow. The marines followed the trooper to a stairway. Along the way Usenski noticed that the building had black scorch marks every where, and that there were several areas blown apart and missing.

"Must have been one hell of a firefight?!", Usenski commented in surprise.

"No there was no firefight, the ODST paused, Covenant stayed back and fired plasma mortors....shelled us for hours we couldn't reach them until they just suddenly stopped firing."

As they continued following the ODST he led them into a room where several other ODSTs.

"Ma'am the reinforcments are here from base!", the trooper saluted

"At ease Dave!", the person in charge here was a female drop shock trooper. Dave put his arm down and walked over to the computer where they were broadcasting frequinces.

"Corporal Vladmire Usenski reporting for duty, we are the reinforments they sent Ma'am!", he saluted

"At ease soldier nice to have you here, how much experience have you had fighting the covenant?

    "None ma'am."

"I see the commander send me some green rooks, ah never mind that!", the female trooper mubbled have to herself.

"Dave, Mike take these three squads and whatever other forces want to come and go show them the ropes!",

Both troopers stood at attention and saluted

    "Yes Ma'am!".

The troopers grabbed several duffle bags and their respected weapons and motioned for the marines to come with them. They led them down several flights of stairs to a garage full of warthogs. Along the way the whole building was a buzzing with marines and others.

"Hey whats with the commotion?", Tyler looked around the garage.

"The company is planning to take the rest of the town we need the foothold." Dave replied.

As the squads mounted three troop warthogs the garage opened and they drove outside. The ODSTs polarized their visors. Usenski looked aorund the town there were several buildings contolled by UNSC. The warthogs kept driving towards the more war torn part of town.

"Were approaching covenant controlled terriotory we have one building controlled right now this close to it." Dave unpolarized his helmet and looked at Usenski.

"So why are we heading to the building am I the only one noticing this?", Tyler yelled.

"The covenant haven't been pushing much they just sent low ranking caste species against us, it will be good practice for you and your squad."

As they pulled close behind the building sounds of gun fire and explosions began to get louder.

"Well get ready marines this will be a first hand experience!", Dave yelled and jumped out of the warthog and motioned for them to run.

Usenski jumped over the raling in the back and took out his MA5B assault rifle and ran after the ODST. His squad was right behind him. The trooper ducked behind a destroyed car and Usenski did the same. The trooper looked over the top of the car and pressed something on the right of his ODST helmet.

"Whats the situation marines?", Dave spoke over the comm channal as he surveyed the area.

Usesnki sat in the cover of the car as the trooper surveyed the area. His squad was with him behind the cover and looked at each other. The cold winter terrian still put everything in a winter state. They were winded from the cold air. They sat there waiting till the ODST situated a plan.

"Marines get ready to move the fighting is on the otherside of the building thats where we are going." Dave yelled the orders while looking down at them.

    "Yes sir.", Usenski replied.

The trooper sprang from cover and ran, as he did so did Usenski's squad. They ran to the entrance in the back. After they ran up the stairs to the second building the trooper turned around and pointed to the hall on the right.

"Your squad is going to help cover the other two squads advance with cover fire down the right hall there is a room with a two turrets. The squad that was in there got hit and killed by a energy mortor.", Dave directed them.

Usenski was the first one in the room he looked around. Martin and Jason ran in second

"Martin Jason get on those two turrets provide cover fire!", Usenski yelled

    "Yes sir!"

Third Tyler and Corey ran in last.

"Corey grab the sniper, and Tyler grab that battle rifle and help Corey with the sniping!", Usenski barked the orders.

The two marines ran and traded their weapons for the sniper and battle rifle without saying anything. The room was on the left side of the building and the wall with the windows had almost completly been blown off. Except for two little neck high walls still left and the two turrets still up. Usenski ran up to one of the semi high walls not used by Tyler and Corey for cover. The turret was quiet and not firing next to him.

"Martin whats wrong with the turret we need it operational!", Usenski yelled.

"I don't know the barrel is melted sir!', he responded.

"Get it operational find another barrel and replace it."

Martin ducked down behind the M247 General Pupose Machine gun and began searching for another spare barrel piece.

"Cover me sir I need to take off the barral.!", Martin yelled!

"I got your back Martin just fix the turret!",

Usenski looked out from cover he finally saw the battlefield. Far in the distance he could see through his dark colored eye visor blue bolts of energy firing towards their general direction. He increased the zoom by clicking something on his helmet and it magnified a zoom. He could see short stocky creatures pouring from the three streets that overlooked the building. The left street which directly overlooked them was filled with the short stock creatures. Marines were in cover behind several vehicles, most were warthogs. Almost all except two warthogs were still up and firing with mariens using it as a damage sponge. The rest of the vehicles were purple small one seater looking things.

The one street that the three smaller ones and ran parallel to the building was full of marines fighting. The three smaller streets were just filled with those small staucky creatures and a few other ones with shields and were bird looking. The whole building was opening fire and had the aliens pinned with its barrage. When the building pinned the staucky short creatures usenski could see that the mariens moved up further into enemy territory.

Raising his MA5B Usenski let the safety off and the fire roared as his assault rifle spit. From this range he sprayed but from his range it didn't hit anything, but neither could the aliens. Martin had all the time in the world the aliens weren't advancing anytime soon. Usenski looked over to Corey and Tyler who were picking the aliens off at a range.

The MA5B in Usenski's hand clicked empty he popped the clip and reached in his ammo pouches and took out another 60 round clip. From this range he thought I am going to fight in bursts. He zoomed in and saw his target a small creature sitting behind one of the alien vehilces, he steadied himself and fired a 5 spray burst out. It caught the alien in the head and it dropped dead. Not bad at this range it would have practically been a marksmen shot.

Usenski hit five more little aliens before something new happened. The other bird like aliens made a wall out of the shields they harnessed and began to advance. The normal ballastic rounds didn't work they just binged off of them. The formation began to form slowly far down the street but got progressively larger and more threating. The marines further up the left street tried running back some made it others got cut down by green and blue energy bolts. From What Usenski could see it was getting worse by the minute.

"Martin hurry we need to get that turret operational!"

Usenski fired another clip into the seemingly invincible wall no good.

"I'm trying sir its not good the barrel its not fitting on!"

    "Let me try take over!"

Usenski handed Martin the gun and dropped to one knee inspecting the multipurpose machinegun. Martin fired over him into the wall.

"Sir, I think the aliens are trying something new to kill us!", Martin informed Usenski

    "I already know!"

Grabbing the barrel he tried to clip it one but something seemed to be interfering. Pulling out the standard issue combat knife he stuck it inside the other half of the mechnasim and twisted and pulled. A chunk of dirt came tumbling out. Theres the problem Usneski thought. He quickly fit the barral on then locked it in place.

"There Martin it works get on the gun!", Usenski ordered.

    "Nice work sir!"

Usenski grabbed his MA5B back and startedfiring with the new machine gun working again they whole room opened fire into the shield wall. For a second it looked like the extra fire power would have leaked through. The wall still kept going towards them, now they were in range to open fire. The air was filled with blue and green bolts of energy. They singed into the building and into the walls around Usenski. The sizziling was everywhere as it began to carbonize the walls.

"We need a new plan!", Usenski yelled to squad.

"What would that be!", Tyler screamed over the roar of the turret his knuckles were white.

Dave ran into the room and slammed into the wall next to Usenski. His ODST armor was a little carbonized and had a new burn mark in the right shoulder.

"Listen you and your squad keep surpressive fire while I order a broadcast!", Dave yelled over the gunfire and sizziling.

"Whats the point it doesn't effect their shield wall!", Martin yelled from turret.

"Trust me they're in the kill radius!", Dave replied.

The ODST opened a broadcast and began giving orders.

"Listen everyone in the front lines through grenades I repeat throw grenades now!"

As the Marines lobbed grenade after grenade at the wall it caused chaos. The bird like aliens died and their wall was breaking apart, with continues fire.

"Keep up the fire!", Dave yelled.

The aliens shield wall fell apart and they were cut down by the marines.

"Give those squads cover fire marines!' Dave order pointing to the two squads pushing up the side.

Martin and Jason turned their multipupose machineguns to pave a path of alien blood and death for the two squads. The battle was almost over, with their wall gone the aliens fled and ran. The ones who were slow were cut down.

Hours had passed and went since the battle was won. Usenski's squad had been taken back to the base of operations building, with the other two squads. As they entered the operations room they saw the same ODST with a few more high ranking officers.

"Fire team reporting it!", Usenski and the others saluted.

"At ease soldiers.", A Colonial walked up to them.

    "Thank you sir!",

"No...Thank you Corporal because of you and the other fine marines more of us could come to this plan to plan a next offensive."

"Well my fire team would be happy to participate in your offensive Sir!"

"I would be glad if you did, the Colonial paused, welcome to Harvest boys lets kick some alien ass!", he smiled
