We all know how slim the chances are of HW2 ever being created. Halo Wars is a great game, but maybe not as great as we expected it to be. There were some simple things that Robot/Ensemble could have implemented that would have made HW much better.
Campaign:
Halo Wars has, what you could call, a just below par campaign for the Halo series. On its own, its a great campaign, with a great story. However, it really has no relation to the Halo universe. It was always advertised to tell the great battles on harvest, and I was honestly very excited about what could possible happen on that planet. What could be there that could change the halo universe? Well, theres the Relic, that leads the whole story away from Harvest and to Arcadia and then to the Shield World. The story then follows Spirit of Fire through its adventures leading up to the Apex Site.
Honestly, the campaign isn't that fun to play. The story just isn't very intriguing. My idea for campaign would be to do what Lord of the Rings did with The Battle for Middle Earth. Retell the Halo trilogy, but from another standpoint, the RTS version. How amazing would it be to command the attack on Instillation 04? Defend the Covenant invasion at New Mombasa? Lead a small army of Grunts and Elites to kill the Heretic Leader? Lead the charge to kill the Prophet of Regret. Maybe even replay an untold part of the Great Schism between the Brutes and the Elites? Lead the assault upon the the Silent Cartographer? Okay, I'll stop, but replaying these would be simply amazing, and it could be done, since Halo Wars already has the potential for making these epic battles retold.
Multiplayer:
I'm confident that Robot could produce an amazing multiplayer, and if HW2 would come out, they would defintely fix many of the things HW had problems with. One major change that I would like is the way units fight. Right now, only jackals hard-counter infantry and vampires hard counter aircraft. Maybe make it follow the Halo multiplayer a little better. What I mean is Choppers would dominate light armor, but then lose to heavy armor, while Ghosts can beat infantry, but lose to pretty much any other type of vehicle/aircraft. Don't make it so that all scouts beat aircraft, and all infantry beat aircraft. Its kind of hard to explain.
Theater/ Screenshots/ Map Editor:
I think you guys know what I mean here. Halo Wars would be much mroe interesting with these. Halo 3 had these, and that was a FPS. I'd probably be easier to make these on an RTS. I honestly just like to look around at the last image of the game after the game, just to look around. I think I'd be a lot of fun if we could have screenshots and replays. Hell, even AoE had these, why not HW?
I'm pretty sure the whole community would benefit from a Map Editor. I think its obvious that one reason a Map Editor wasn't created is because their DLC wouldn't sell. They didn't make a Map Editor. Did there DLC sell? Exactly. I think we all have a few map deigns that we would design for Halo Wars. Why not incude it.
Leaders:
Or more specifically, Covenant Leaders. This is an idea that I've had, and I think it would work very well. Right now, one problem in HW is one unit armies (Arbiter) killing big, giant armies. My idea is having leaders play similar to turrets. At the start of the game, leaders play at, say 70% of what they do now. However, you research the anti-vehicle upgrade, and he performs 120% vs vehicles, but still 70% agaisnt air and infantry. If you change, you lose your previous upgrade. This makes battling with varied armies much more essential.
That's pretty much everything I can think of. What do you guys think?
