A Thought On UNSC Shields *Possible Spoilers*

In the Halo 3 level "The Crow's Nest," we hear a Marine shout out "Shielding failed. They're down and charging," after the base is hit with an EMP. Several theories have been given for this, including actual metal plating, however Halo 3: ODST may have provided us with a link.

In the Epilogue of ODST, we see the Engineer Vergil about to give Johnson - and in effect the UNSC - vital information about the Covenant, yet his aid most likely didn't end there. As we all know, Engineers are actually Forerunner artificial lifeforms. The Bubble Shield equiptment was a UNSC crafted device, however the shield dome (which is noticeably stronger than the MJOLNIR's shield system) shares the familiar hexagonal pattern that is found on Forerunner consoles (Halo Wars) and the Sentinel shields in Halo 3. What if Vergil provided the technological know-how for the UNSC to develop it's own shields?

Now apply the Bubble Shield to a larger scale, and you've got base shielding. This is somewhat easy to do, as the base is stationary. However what's next? Possibly ship shielding, as well as personal shields for Marines and ODST.

That is actually a pretty good, it would explain the appearance of bubble shields in halo 3 though it makes you wonder what happened to the engineers at the end of first strike, surely they could have been involved somehow

The trip mine is also a hexagon.

Not only that, the power drain is more effective against Covie vehicles than UNSC ones, and it causes elite shields to flare and drain and SPRTN shields to just drain.  It also insta-kill ODSTs in H3 though... (try it on the Covenant)

What I didn't understand is that before that cut scene, it says, "One month later"

The Covenant had been on Earth for over a month and there were still operating orbital MAC platforms?

Prove it. The engineer would've given them all the tech they needed. And later, they joined with the elites, who had shielding.  Not only that, they had already developed MJOLNIR shields.  So please think before you post.

But it's a big space station.  Orbiting Earth.  And there are tons of Covenant ships there.

Correction, We had lost the MJOLNIR shields with the deaths of the Spartan II's. With the Elites it is half and half, we have no idea how their alliance was after halo 3. Engineer is an interesting topic, they could have either given him damaged Covenant technology to fix for them or dissected it in order to learn how it works. Nothing is certain, we need a halo 3 sequel to tell us what happened

    Encrypted AI:

the bubble sheild was covenant, your theory cannot work

Incorrect. The Bubble Shield is introduced as being used by Spartan-117 in the rendered promotional for Halo 3. While not a strong argument, one would assume that it's UNSC> Secondly, the color (gold/yellow) is a color never used by the Covenant [primarily] in any of their shield technology; their shields tend to be blue. Thirdly, and I quote:

    Halopedia - Bubble Shield:

The Bubble Shield is an anti-artillery and personal defense device. The technology involved with it is owned by UNSC's Office of Naval Intelligence branch.

The source for this (if you don't trust Halopedia) is this: http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=765343

Now, this is stated as belonging to the ONI branch of the UNSC. Who was working for the UNSC, specifically ONI, around the events of Halo 2? Vergil; a rouge Huragok. It is very possible, almost to the point of certainty, that he was able to produce anoperable bubble shield (and even base shielding) within the span of a month.

Not all Covenant shields were blue.  In Halo: CE there were jackals with gold shields.  If the UNSC invented the bubble shield, how come brutes are the only things other than the player to utilize them in Halo 3 and ODST?
