Theroetically, could a Pelican be built and used?

I have been pondering this question for a while now. If we ditch the engine and fuel (because I don't think we have the engine/propulsion yet), could the principles of physics allow the Pelican to fly?

The engine is what keeps it up. Is there something that you had in mind to replace it?

Probably, but, as with most technology bar a few exceptions in the Halo universe, we have better troop transports even now.

Pelicans are far better than any troop transport we have today. They are certainly more advanced.

Re: Theroetically, could a Pelican be built and used?

I was thinking that Pelicans might be able to replace helicopters because helicopters have extremely vunlerable rotary blades. A pelican doesn't. And for the main propulsion/engine, I think we have to invent it out of nowhere. Which is going to be quite hard.

Also, a Pelican could double as a gunship, which would cut down on costs for other designs for gunships.

But anyway,  my main question was: If we had the engine, could it fly?

Yes I believe it would be able to.

Re: Theroetically, could a Pelican be built and used?

If we had the right engines something like a pelican should fly.

My problems is how those small engines are supporting it.

This is one of the exceptions in halo technology that is actually useful. It can transport troops and vehicles and has the fire power near a modern attack helicopter, not to mention it can fly in space.

I looked up the D77-TCI Pelican on Halopedia, and it said that it might be possible, because it said that the stubby wings could give a little support, but most of the lift would be from the hull. Halopedia also said that this was demonstrated from the older F-104 Starfighter (back in the 70's I think)

Re: Theroetically, could a Pelican be built and used?

In theory and more in my opinion the key to a pelican being made and very realistically being used would be the abillity to invert force by the decomposition of matter by the force of anti matter, dark energy and maybe even subatomic energy with a way to feed all that as well and needless to say we still question anti matter, dark energy and subatomic energy is out there.

DEFINETLY! have you ever heard of the osprey heliplane?(also called TILTROTOR ) if not, check the link below

     http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-22_Osprey

all we would have to do is make a small rocket/fusion reactor to use instead of the rotors. simples *Meerkat squeak*

A 3 star fully upgraded arbiter and a well placed super mac blast (4-shot) will kill ANYTHING. THAT INCLUDES 14 VULTURES, 99 ODST, 33 GRIZZLYS OR WRAITHS AND 49 VAMPS,CHOPPERS,COBRAS, WOLVS OR 99 FULLY UPGRADED GHOST. serious. that combo owns.

ooh or using electromagnetic coils to counter the force of the earth's gravity. they'll do, too

Re: Theroetically, could a Pelican be built and used?

That is not all, guys. We also have to remember the Pelican's ability to carry vehicles EFFECTIVELY. Yes, magnets, but I truly doubt they'll hold when the Pelican banks to the left or right. Any ideas for this?

Maybe latches? It doesn't have to be fancy like Anti-gravity, just effective.

Re: Theroetically, could a Pelican be built and used?

Yes, that could be it. My worry with that is the latches would have to be customized for each vehicle (which is going to ramp up the costs alot). The latches would have to be pretty darn large for the tanks, and the latches probably could be seen and shot off. My fears maybe weird, but I'm just trying to make it as safe as possible (if it is ever to be made).

My personal opinion is that there has to be another way.

Re: Theroetically, could a Pelican be built and used?

I doubt that you would need to change the latches for each vehicle. The difference between a Scorpion and a Warthog is just size. If the Pelican has magnetic latches then it could easily hold something in place with minimal space and maximum effectiveness.

The latches would most likely grab onto something that is designed in all UNSC vehicles. Remember that the main focus of the UNSC is for fast and effective transport, so they wouldn't have specialized pelicans for each vehicle.
