    Leaders ruined the halo feeling

I added in Prophet of Fury's post here, since it should dismiss many potential responses right away.
    Prophet of Fury:

L0dex:The leader concept ruined alot of the halo feeling of Halo Wars.

Compare your battles from Halo Wars to any battles of the FPS games, see my point? There's nothing wrong with the UNSC call-in powers, but the Covenant leaders just ruined so much of this game's potential.

You can almost never have a "normal" halo battle in this game, where a few grunts and some ghosts face off against some marines and a hog or two. You always get this ridiculous leader alongside them, which completely changes the feel of the game.

And let's not get into the leader's ablilities. Imagine seeing arbiter in the FPS games do the crazy things of Halo Wars, I'd get pretty pissed off if I saw that ruining my gameplay experience. The Prophet's beam is okay in theory, but having it in almost every battle of Halo Wars ruins it. The same goes for chieftain.

Look I realise they added them in for the sake of gameplay, but they should have just stuck to UNSC'ish powers imo. Or at the very least limited the times that the Covenant leaders are available on the battlefield (they could have been a power that temporarily got deployed on the battlefield, and withdrawn after a certain period, like the things in LOTR : BFME2).

That's my rant on halo wars leaders for now, I sure hope the sequel will at least try to bring some of the traditional halo gameplay to us, on a larger scale, instead of leader wars.

I supplied the original post for those who haven't read it

This has to be the most interesting thread I have ever read. Interesting because the majority of the responders have clearly completely missed the point.

L0dex writes that he feels that the *implementation* of leaders ruined the "Halo feeling". What followed is a confusing string of posts telling him he doesn't understand the difference between a FPS and an RTS or that "leaders have to be in the game to make it work." Frankly, I'm surprised he responded at all. I mean, you guys climbed all over him saying he didn't understand when you clearly didn't understand >him<.

It's not about the style of gameplay.

It's not about leaders being OP or UP

It's not about MP playing like campaign.

It's not about making an RTS play like a FPS.

What's it about, then, you ask?

It's about Ensemble taking the easy way out when they made a Halo game. As stated by someone else in another post, it's likely that Halo Wars started out as a completely different game and was coerced by Microsoft to make it into a Halo game in an attempt to woo the incredibly huge Halo fan base away from Bungie. Had they put the effort into it that Bungie does they may well have succeeded, but they warped the characters to fit the game rather than the other way around. All the Bungie Halo games not only fit the Haloverse, they *are* the Haloverse.

There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to do things like making a Super Arbiter, putting the Prophet of Regret on the front lines, making Anders a military commander, or leaving Sgt Forge OFF the battlefield, etc. etc. etc., in order to make a good Halo RTS. Period.

Halo Wars is a good RTS and L0dex would agree I'm sure. IT'S JUST NOT HALO.

If Robot wants in on Bungie's incredible success with Halo, they need to understand it better. You just can't use Halo characters and art and expect the same results. Robot clearly knows how to make an RTS. In order to make a Halo RTS they need to read the books and play the games. It can be done (Bungie was going to do it and somehow got talked out of it).

    All right, flame on!

The DeathMatch prophet strategy IS overpowered, very simple. Though hang on just one minute, that has absolutely NOTHING to do with this topic. Gtfo.

You clearly aren't intelligent enough to understand what point I'm trying to make with my topic, I suggest you learn to read and then come back for a second try.

    oh no you didnt!

just because you think something is overpowered doesnt mean you shouldnt at least TRY. sure, you were probably gonna get pwned anyways, but you can learn from your losses (VERMM once said that). and for the record, prophet is beatable in 1v1 DM. its just much harder to beat with cutter than with anders.

also, my post has everything to do with your topic. you say you dont like covi leaders because they ruin the "halo feeling". i think its just that you just dont know how to deal with them in combat (which was a point studmuffin was trying to make). another one of studmuffin's points: Halo Wars is an RTS (not an FPS), so to give it an "RTS feeling", they add powerful hero units.

if there werent leaders, the two factions would be too similar. leaders add spice and variety to the game. nuff said.

That is not AT ALL what I was ranting about. What is with this forum and stupidity. Do I need to hand things on a silver platter to you?

This has NOTHING to do with how the game is right now, nor how I perform in it. What is wrong with you people.

aaaactually, PoR is very powerful in DM because of his mobility. but thats okay, you are a standard player so you didnt know.

    blabla

My post has nothing at all to do with the OP or UP'ness of leaders, nor in deathmatch nor in standard. I have no idea why you are bringing this up, must be just to rub in how I quit that one time? If that's the case, good for you buddy, I don't care.

"also, my post has everything to do with your topic. you say you dont like covi leaders because they ruin the "halo feeling". i think its just that you just dont know how to deal with them in combat (which was a point studmuffin was trying to make). another one of studmuffin's points: Halo Wars is an RTS (not an FPS), so to give it an "RTS feeling", they add powerful hero units."

No, I'll explain it to you step by step:
    - I don't like covenant leaders because the way they were implemented make for this game to have a completely different combat feeling from the original halo games. I don't give a *** if I can play decently with them or not. I don't play any game at a competitive level.

This also has nothing to do with an "RTS" or "FPS" feeling. What I am saying is that combat in this game, does not feel like halo combat. Combat that would fit in the halo universe. Get it?

There's no problem with leaders per sé, it's just that they were poorly implemented to fit the halo feeling. Arbiter doing DBZ moves? You cannot possibly say that this fits the halo feeling.

Of course it doesn't feel like other Halo combat. The other games were about a one Spartan army, while this is is about the whole army. What did you think it would feel like?

Re: Leaders ruined the halo feeling

Just the composition of UNSC and covenant during most skirmishes you'd encounter in the FPS games.

For example, one wraith, a few ghosts, and several infatry squads on cov side vs some hogs and marines.

I know it's multiplayer, but this game was supposed to be what Halo was on a larger scale. However in halo wars none of the encounters feel like something you'd see in a halo fps game (and I mean the composition of both armies with this, basically).

if thats what hes talking about, then the arbiter gives a very good one-man army feeling. problem solved.

Take your average Halo Wars MP match, and compare the composition of both forces. As a halo game, you'd hope it would somewhat fit with what they described in the halo books or battles of the halo games on a larger scale. Instead you have a game that focuses heavily on it's leaders instead of on it's units.

The UNSC is alright, but the Covenant feels nothing like it does in any of the FPS games. Wraith rush? Won't happen in a halo game, not just pure wraiths and perhaps jackalls.

Also, the covenant leader teleportation ability is partly responsible for ruining the feel of this game. Once again, for you hardcore gamers out there, I am not complaining that is it OP or whatever. I'm just saying it ruined the halo feeling of this game.

Some of the older members here would understand my point. If they still are around that is.
