How new are Brutes? In the halo 2 manual it says they were the newest race to the covenant but how long ago were they assimilated exactly?

I know it couldnt  have been between Halo CE and Halo 2 because you dont just assimilate brutes just like that ya know.....  the reason im asking this is because if they were assimilated earlier than most people think could they make an appearance in HW?

They've been around for a while, but have been restricted from frontline combat due to an "Age Old Feud" with the elites. The UNSC first encountered the spiker and presumably brutes in 2537, but I doubt they will be in game unless there are special forces missions.

Throughout most of the war, the Brutes have been restricted to guarding temples, and other secondary roles in Covenant warfare.

So, I doubt that the UNSC would have encountered them unless they attacked Covenant-controlled space, which they didn't during the start of the war.

unless you factored in spec op missions.

But the only SpecOp missions into Covenant controlled space were by S-III's, none of which encountered Brutes.

Yes but i just wanted to know if they were around. I could see them making their way into the game but they dont have to be in it cause it would be hard to counter 2 way bigger units than a normal human. actually 3 .

I think the first encounter of actual brutes was on Uneven Elephant (Yes, i'm that lazy that i always call it that) when MC and the remaining spartans were pinned down in the temple by two brutes and Grace was killed by a brute shot and a brute almost crushed MC to death, because as far as i know it was the first time the UNSC had ever encountered a Covenant city and it was just before Tartarus made his agreement with Truth and Brutes became front line soldiers

I am writing it in my book that the Brutes are conscripted right before Harvest.  Maybe they will be encountered there, becuase everyone died on the planet(pretty much).

No, in first strike Brutes are guarding the temple, Honour guard are purely to guard the Prophets and highly important figures

Therefore, we have never encountered Brutes before, and they are assigned to guard Covenant shrines.

Also, somewhere it was determined that when the covenant first foudn humans, their focus wasn't on them at all, and only recently has it been turned completely towards them, this was due to the war with the brutes and attempted assimilation, NTM possible internal conflicts once they DID assimilate
