Marine spam vs Arbiter: not a bad idea

Well, I was playing against a Forge who decided to spam marines at my army of Banshees. I kept the banshees away and used my T3 Arbiter to take care of them. The only problem was that I had actually lost some health overall, and that made me start thinking. I knew that spammed ODSTs can overwhelm an Arbiter, but I didn't know that Marines could get close. A few minutes later, the guy attacked my Arbiter again, but this time he had mixed in flamethrowers. I actually had to teleport away and heal from that, which is surprising. I knew that tanks + flamethrowers and Wraiths + jackals raped the Arbiter, but I didn't know that marines + flamethrowers did too. The only reason I ended up winning the game was because, for some wierd reason, he split up his flamethrowers and marines and tried to surround me. Unfortunatly for him, his flamethrowers ran into my banshees. Poor guy.

What are your thoughts on a marine + flamethrower army (vs. the Arbiter)?

Re: Marine spam vs Arbiter: not a bad idea

Me and Prince played against Ecoic and meat shield. They went with alot of marines against my Arby. It works because Arby just run out of money against them. But, its not all good because i managed to build up a hall and make tech 0 jackals and took them all out. The marines where tech 3 aswell. So, the marines are decent against Arby, but not that great.

Also, flamers work very well against Arby early game. Make sure they get to flash bang and the arbiter spends more money to rage one then it cost for the flamer, so you can just spam them at him and he dies.

Marines are a good bet until the arby gets the cheap rage upgrade.

Re: Marine spam vs Arbiter: not a bad idea

I would think that they wouldn't stand a chance against a T3 Arbiter, but I've ben wrong before.

Come to think of it, the Arbiter is harder to use when against a large army, therefore massed marines could do well. Flamers are obviously a good choice, if you can keep them safe.

Good idea, I'll be sure to try this.

Re: Marine spam vs Arbiter: not a bad idea

This was all late game, both the Arbiter and his marines were T3. Not sure about his flamethrowers though. Since we both only had one base, I would assume that he had around 3000 resources, like I did. Or maybe not, since he spent so much on his marines.

Even though I was in no danger of running out of cash, I would have lost if I hadn't had banshees.

Edit: and it wasn't my idea. It was xTHExGRUDGEx's idea.

    Edit: his flamethrowers were T1.

I'm talking about super arby, you said you were going to make marines to counter an arby wraith rush, which was just stupid.

Except an arbiter doesn't need to rage marines if he has wraiths, seeing as wraiths counter marines.

Re: Marine spam vs Arbiter: not a bad idea

When I suggested the marine counter, i'm pretty sure it was an arbiter+banshee scenario. I'm not sure where the whole wraith thing came in. But still, marines aren't that bad against wraiths. Get RPG and maybe throw in a gremlin or two and they almost counter wraiths. You could harrass with warthogs while building lots of marines. You don't have to literely sit there and pump out 30 marines.

You've got to be trolling. You specifically, seriously said before that you would have 30 marines by time you got wraith rushed. It was one of your traditional Cookie Krisp comments that everyone gets a good laugh over and then wonders for your sanity.

Re: Marine spam vs Arbiter: not a bad idea

marine spam works against sucky arby players....but good players can "micro" with rage mode to kill the marines one at a time...then arby gains health back just as fast as he loses it.

imo, nobody could get enough marines to kill arby before he has cheap rage.

I think $250 for a new base is more than fair. Kinda compensates for his early game.

There aren't many other realistic ways to improve his economy.

still think the grenade/RPG buff should also apply to heavy armor. Otherwise stopping a forge tank rush is gonna be very difficult with certain teams. Or you could buff hornets vs ground targets, that'll work too. Some teams simply cannot get a decent counter in the time is takes to potentially rush with tanks (less than 4 min.)
