    Something missing...

Alright guys, somethings not right here. No pelicans for the UNSC? No Elites for the Covenant ( as a single unit.)

No Phantom or any other kind of carrying vehicle?

    No ODST?

I wouldn't be surprised if ES is leaving some of Halo Wars surprises under the tree. (holiday pun:)

This can't be everything. 3 years of work on this and  there are still vital parts missing. I'm not insulting ES's work, they did a great job, by I don't think that this is everything.

    Re: Something missing...

Paragon said somewhere in the holiday ask a mod thread that they aren't showing the leader specific units in the field manual, so that is probably what's missing.

    Re: Something missing...

When they first added the UNSC manual they stated that not all units would be depicted on the page. That is most likely what has happened. Just because they did not tell us it was buildable does not mean it is not.

    they arent buildable...

they are a "call in power"

    meaning, they just transport stuff

Exactly. That is one of the biggest holes in the UNSC arsenal. It's not enough to have a call-in power.

    James T.:

Leader-specific unit. Most likely, the Arbiter will allow the building of Elites, and the Brute Cheiftan will allow the fielding of Brutes.

So long as the Brutes aren't in Campaign...

    James T.:
No Phantom or any other kind of carrying vehicle?

    Yup.

    James T.:
    No ODST?

They are an upgrade for Marines. Apparantly, since ES had Minutemen upgrading into Longswordmen, and then into Two-handers, and then into Champions, they have no problem whatsoever with upgrading General Issue Marines into Special Forces Orbital Drop-Shock Troopers.

    I wouldn't expect much more.

    Lethe:

Then you should be pretty happy with the game; it's a lot of fun.
Even if a squad of marines out of dozens of units on a battle field has shoulder pads .25" too thick for a fanboy's tastes :)

    Inspires confidence, no?

Pelicans are perhaps the most iconic unit in Halo.

That aside, high mobility is the key to RTS battles, and almost all modern/futuristic RTSs have dropships. Of course, ES's games haven't, because they never even discovered flight in their games...

It's such an Iconic vehicle to halo and it's just awsome! It feels awsome, it drives awsome, it lands awsome, it deploys units and vehicles awsomely. It's just awsome! That bird is just awsome! Since the begining of the halo series people wanted to drive the pelicans. Even I would want to drive one. I mean it's just that they are so... can't explain... You have to feel it to see...

Pretty much. Go play silent cartographer in the first halo on a big screen with the lights off and surround sound. Youll see what we mean.

Besides, they would be good for sneak attacks. boy do i lovvvvvvvvvveee sneak attacks!

    Re: Something missing...

ES, not allowing people to control a pelican is a huge mistake. Its a dropship for heavens sake, let us pick up marines, and drop them off into battle with it. Its a great way to quickly deploy units into the battle field without making them walk or ride in a warthog.

I also find it stupid that they have marines upgrade into ODST.

"Every ODST is a veteran from some other Special Operations outfit. Therefore they have already gone through at least two layers of screening and months of intense training—not counting the years of on-the-job-training—before volunteering for the ODSTs. If anything, the selection process is a more stringent third layer of screening that takes place after a point in time that any potential volunteer would have theoretically washed out. There is no age or gender bias—as long as the candidate meets the physical and mental requirements they are guaranteed the opportunity to “try out” for the ODSTs." source

I don't think standard marines qualify...

    Re: Something missing...

I think they do in this case, and here's why:

It's a game. More specifically, it's an RTS. Every unit goes through massive upgrades. Remember Age of Mythology? Your units would go from bronze weapons to steel weapons (or something of that sort) in a matter of minutes; a process which took hundreds of years. It happens.

Seriously, just be glad they're in the game. Some of you guys are being far to "bah humbug" about this. You complained that we weren't getting enough info, saying "where's our update!?" Well, ES gave you a MASSIVE update, and look what you've done with it.

Merry Christmas; hope you recieve your other gifts with better grace.
