Looking at the halo 3 recon trailer and stills, i realized that that took place before master cheif got there

because the tether (the long thing that went into the sky) was desrtoyed almost immediately after he left.

So it makes me wonder if we will see or encounter him or Maranda keys during the "game".

I believe the game takes place very soon after regret jumped in the middle of the city. The screen went black for like over 10 seconds and then came back on. that was regret jumping I think

the trailers took place right as regret jumped in the middle of mambassa, you can see his ship in the backround, then it skips about a day and the helljumper pops out of his pod. The meaning of the game is to give players an idea of exacly what regret was doing at mambassa...why he went there

 

im pretty sure he went there to get the coordinates of the new delta halo....just like how they went to reach to get the coordinates of the first halo

thats because the game takes place at the same time as halo 2.

Halo 3 Recon bridges the gap between Halo 2 and Halo 3.  Master Chief will most likely only be seen in flashbacks.  And as for the city, some buildings that were far enough away from the slipspace damage radius would have survivied, but would have sustained moderate damage.  It is likely that it is in this area that the ODST landed.
