To answer all the noobs questions about the end of Halo three i will explain what happened

 

The ark was busy building a replacement halo for the one you destroyed in Halo:CE.

The ring was only half-built when you activated it...via the index cortana had kept safe from the original halo.

 Because the ring was only half-done when it fired off it began to shake itself to bits.

 The ring fell into the ark causing a massive explosion.

The ark had sustained so much damage to portal leading to it collapsed just as the front-end of the Forward unto Dawn passed through it.

The ark was destroyed...and the halo ring didnt fire...the flood were destroyed in the explosion.

The back end of the Dawn didnt make it through the portal in time and chief was lost in space.

 

Play the level Halo (last level) of halo 3 on legendary and when you are done do not click a button and wait until the credits are gone it will show the memorial and then it will show you Cortana and the Chief in the broken half of the Dawn floating in space. I would also like to say that by the time that they are found it would be likely Cortana would be dead, so halo 4...probably not.

not true. the portal closed almost instantly as halo 'fired'. which just couldn't happen in real life if i believe. mabey an overload of energy of some sort.

BTW, at the end u said that Cortana and Cheif would probably die in space which would  = no Halo 4, but I do not entirely agree.

It showed the back half of the FuD floating down towards a planet. That planet, almost certainly, has to be Onyx from GoO. This definitely leaves the plotline open for a Halo spin-off, even if it is not necessarily "Halo 4".

I didnt really say chief would die he has a longer life-span than a human so it would be possible for him to survive...However Cortana is a "smart" AI read "Fall of Reach" and Dr. Halsey will explain how her own ingeniouity will cause her destruciton within seven years

 When frozen in cyro sleep you don't age, and in Halo: First Strike Cortana made copies of her self to increase her life span

If you watch you will see that MC does go into Cryo stasis so he will NOT (edit) die...also Cortana is a clone of Dr. Halsey's brain if there was any possible way to simply clone herself over and over to life longer dont you think she wouldve thought of that...And how in the world do you suggest she will find copying materials on a power-down ship that is cut in half that may indeed fall through a (may be onyx) planet's atmosphere...if the Dawn (half-of-it) does go through the atmosphere it could be burnt apart or simply diintergrated

However i do not know the range, a beacon was dropped by Cortana, if any UNSC find this and discover it's source they will provide a full-on investigation no doubt. I do agree with your statement that help is not likely

MC is fine unless help never arrives or the ship crashes, blows up, etc.
Cortana should be the one worried.

Even if Lord Hood was dead they could send help, however, seeing how far away the Ark was from the Milky Way, and depending on if they got shot away or towards it, they would likely die before the signal for help would even arrive unless they both 'shut down'.

i am not sure what your trying to say -Karskin-. MC is isnt in danger from age (i never said that). The back end of FuD is not likely going to survive a atmospheric drop...Cortana is the only one that is in mortal danger from aging...She can only survive another few years before her systems completley break apart from internal "thinking" as described by Dr. Halsey in "Fall of Reach"
