(The beginning. clearly spartans in training. John and one of the girls.)

John: Do you ever wonder whats up there?

Female spartan: Like what?

John: Maybe somebody up there is wondering what it's like here.

Female spartan: I guess. i wonder if we'll ever see them?

John: I hope so, don't you?

 (scene goes to present. a heated battle seems to have ended and a new one starting. John awakens and grabs his helmet and assualt rifle. explosions all around.)

Background: do you think we're underneath them...

Cortana?: cheif...

Anther voice: cheif! (radio)

Marine: ??? fall back now! (radio)

Sarge?: any one seen the cheif? (radio)

Marine: no sir. i think we lost'em. (radio)

John: not yet (to self)

(John throws a "shield grenade?" at the ground to avoid a plasma blast and activates a shield. *x button?* John sprints off of a cliff into a mess of wraiths and brutes.)

*note: there seems to be a mushroom cloud in the distance.

Edit: Also...Homing device? I don't think so.. I think that "grenade" or what ever activated that uber shield... 

noticed some minor problems with the diologue, but thats cuz im a perfectionist when it comes to simple stuff like that, and we don't know if its in training or pre-spartan...we can only assume it john because it goes to first person after that, and where did ppl get the "x button" thing? i've heard nothing about some new amazing xbutton usage

His shield doesn't not look like that or protect from a direct hit from a Wraith blast......and thats no "grenade" we have ever seen before.

homing beacon? even worse that implies something is aiming, how bout "shield generator" becasue we know its not a grenade cuz there are only 3 grenades not 4

Second: I took the grenade to be a shield grenade, as in a grenade that created a temporary shield. It wasn't John-117's normal shield, as has been suggested. It is like a perfect sphere around him made of octagons, or some other sort of shape.
