Henry Benniger looked down the sight of his scope and saw a gray uniform. "Yay, though I walk through the valley of death...". His rifle cracked as the bullet flew through the air and turned the head of German soldier into a pink mist. Cling. He loaded the next bullet into the chamber. He looked down to see panic absolute. He watched with a mocking grin. Now wheres your glorious Hitler? He aimed at an officer, pardon, an SS officer. "I fear not death, nor Satin, but the displeasure of the Lord. "Crack. No matter how important he was, the bullet pierced his skull just as easy as any other. It was starting to get hot down there.
He slowly crawled out of his position. One more succesful attack. After about ninety yards of crawling back he jumped up and ran. It was amazing what German search dogs were capable of. He rushed through the brush and trees.Henry started hearing whistles and barking. "Oh ***!"He muttered. He kept running, hoping to get to the-. There it is! The river. He waded through it. "***, this is cold.". He got to the other side and got behind a large bush. He heard ferocious barking that made him cringe. Those mean bastards could tear you up. He layed on his stomach, hardly breathing as he heard everything quiet down. Some officer started screaming. Henry's German was shotty, but apparently he was upset that the sniper had gotten away. Henry risked a look around.
There were three soldiers, five German shepherds, and one exceptionally red faced officer. He watched them as they started going back when a dog barked and looked toward Henry. Henry ducked back and willed himself into a little ball. The German looked over his shoulder. Seeing nothing, he yanked the leash and told the dog to come. The dog bared his teeth and snarled. The German yanked harder, wishing to get back to camp before nightfall. Henry waited until he heard nothing else and got up. He walked back to camp whistling Dixie glad he had landed another attack on the ***.

Linda Nickson looked out the small window in her bedroom. It was five thirty in the morning. She got out of bed and started getting ready to go to work. She tied up her long black hair and put on her work boots. She had just got the new job at the factory. She didn't want to get hurt. She grabbed her gloves and walked into the kitchen to fix a large sandwich for lunch.
As she began to walk out the door she saw Henry's picture in the hallway. They had been planning to marry that year when the Japs had sucker punched the U.S at Pearl Harbor. Like many men of twenty, Henry felt that he owed it to his country to enlist in the Army. That had been two years ago. A hot tear rolled down her cheek. This was why she went to work at five thirty, why she didn't take a job as an accountant, as a typist. She wanted to be directly involved in keeping her fiance alive.
She walked out the door and walked to the bus stop. It was chilly but once she got inside the factory, cold would be her last worry. Cold isn't exactly strange in New York. The bus pulled up to the curb and popped the doors open. She quickly got on and took her usual seat. There he is...again. Every day, there was this short little nut job. He would yell about "purple flashes" and how aliens were real. He had to be off his nut.Her train of thought went back to Henry. It always did.He always sent her letters. Those were one of the things she looked forward to every month. But,she shivered, she never, not as long as the war lasted wanted to see a Western Union messenger. She never wanted to see the U.S Army stamped letter, never see"We are sorry to inform you..."Many of her closest friends had lost their husbands. Some couldn't take the strain. She hoped she never would know if she could. The bus jerked to a stop."25th street! 25th Street!."She got up and as she stepped off she heard the strange man laugh."Those who do not believe, will never believe."What a nutjob she thought as she got off.
She walked down the street until she got to the factory. It was one of the larger Artillery manufacturing plants in the area. She walked in and was greeted with the heat and cacophony of noise that the factory made just as much as Artillery. She clocked in and got on the assembly line. She had a relatively simple job.Bolt tires securely to each other. She relished the slow pace that the morning started at.Soon,it would go much faster.
The floor inspector suddenly appeared behind her.
"Well,hello darlin."he said lightly.
He was a Southener who liked to have fun with his woman work force. He lightly touched her backside.Linda wished the sick *** had gotten drafted. But,sadly,he was missing an arm.So he got to stay here and fondle his workers. Most never complained for fear of losing their job.If she didn't aknowledge him,he would usually move on to another unlucky worker.
She slowly began to fall into a rut.Time passed in a blink of an eye. Before she new it the alarm screamed."Another day..."She sighed and clocked out.She left and got on the bus. That strange man wasn't there anymore.Weird.She disliked him but...he was always there. She shrugged it off and went home.
Ch.3
Nigel Zelt woke up in his tent.He got up on his elbows and looked around.Still dark.If this kept happening, the Sturmbannführer would have his ass in a sling. He needed to not feel as though bricks were tied to his feet.He layed on his back and willed himself to sleep. He rememberes his peaceful days. Before this war destroyed his life.
When he lived out in Eastern Germany. He would play with friends, without fear of some yankee sniper. Then Hitler rose to power.He...He was a baloon.Full of himself. He only caused trouble.Enlisting all the capable men, deporting 'unreliables' that Nigel had been friends with since childhood. The hypocrisy of his serving still tasted sour in his mouth. But,he still felt a pride in the Fatherland. He would throw away his life for it.The SS were not soldiers. They were Untermenschen in fancy suits. They were curs who sucked up to the Party. He hoped never...to...be...
A whistle started to sound in the background."The hell?"He murmered as he remembered where he was."Schiza!"He sprang up and started getting dressed. If he was late to roll,Sturmbannführer Fritz would...be most unhappy. The Sturmbannführer was a vicious thirty year old who loved to take out his anger on the dumb ass' that he caught. He was feared within the group. Many believed that the Devil had told him that if he calmed down, that he could be next in line.Of course,he was fair.He never made a trumped up charge. This earned many of the mens respect. But god help you should he find anything on you.
Nigel got to roll just in time.He got in position and prayed he hadn't been overly noticed. The roll went on as normal. He had gotten away with it.He broke off from formation and started to help break down camp.Having twenty men,it didn't take too long.Nigel shouldered his weapon,a new Gewehr 41.It was a new design that Nigel loved. No bolt.He had yet need it due to the replacement occuring only weeks ago. After camp was broken, they started out.Maybe that Yankee sniper will taste this bullet,Nigel mused as he marched.
A small rippling of the Horst Wessel Song began.Nigel sang strongly and felt his heart burst with pride. This was his land. His Fatherlan-.A blue light flashed across the sky.Nigels entire squad looked up in amazement. There had been rumors of a new secret weapon but...Wow.This was the power of Fatherland. The squad soon began to function normally and continued marching. They were to investigate the recent sniper raid that took place two days ago. That sniper was becoming a legend.Nigel believed that there was no possible way it was just one.It was probably just multiple snipers. It was unimaginable that a single American could actually down thirty German soldiers. They marched until they got to a clearing.
What was that?It was a smoldering wreck. The squad, disregarding the leaders orders got closer and looked around the wreck to see what on Earth it was. There were creatures all over the ground.Short stocky things that looked as if a pig could walk.Tall ones that looked like chikens on Nigels farms bred with a super computer. They had no idea that they were looking at the remains of a failed Covenant landing.

Caba walked onto the platform of the Unyielding Truth. The Ship Master shifted his gave from the console to the little grunt.
"You summoned me Ship Master?"Caba said meekly.
"Yes."the Ship Master rumbled.
"What may I do to be of service to you?"
"Your being a Chaplain on this ship means something to your fellow Unggoy. They will follow you anywhere it seems."
The Shangheili got up from his chair and walked up to him.
"I am giving you an important opportunity. You will lead your fellow grunts to sanctify this world."
Caba quivered. He had never been a Unggoy prone to fighting. But this was fantastic news.He would fight for the Covenant.Caba bowed to the Ship Master.
"Thank you.I will lead are Unggoy with utter vigilance."
The Elite smiled and spoke."I know you will."
The SM had always had a soft spot for Unggoy. Most believed it was because he had once been saved by one.Others said that he unofficially did certain things that could be thought of as unholy to grunts.Caba felt and hoped the first was true.
Caba ran back to to the Unggoy section of the ship. This was a dangerous area.Methane being so concentrated. He walked in to find most of the grunts sleeping. There was very little to do besides eat and sleep on the ship.Caba got onto a table and called everyones attention.
"What?!"Screamed one of the more belligerent grunts.
Caba answered with some heat."I will be leading you all on to make this planet a part of The Holy Covenant."
The room went quite. You could hear the ship move along.A loyal grunt started the cry."Caba!Caba!Caba!"The rest followed suit.Caba felt as though he was the leader of the fleet, for only a second, but it was there."Truth Unggoy, report to transit pods for embarkation.Truth Unggoy,..."This was his destiny.
The Unggoy ran behind them as they stampeded towards the pods.Caba was the first one in.He saw the counter embedded into the controls. They needed to adjust their pressure. With each passing second,Caba's heart beat a little faster. He would sanctify this world.
Ch.5
Henry Benniger unslung his Springfield rifle and began cleaning it.It was a nice day and he was a particular person about his gun.As he cleaned the rifle, his mind wandered back to his fiance. From her letters she had heard she was doing fine, but he still worried about her.She wasn't one to garner for pity. She was a tough one.
As he finished cleaning the rifle he noticed an utter silence. The hell?He looked up from his Springfield to see the rest of the soldiers in the squad staring up in awe.Benniger looked up and couldn't believe his eyes.A blue ship?Plane? was hurtling towards the Earth.Panic rose up in his heart.A super weapon. The Nazi's had always bragged that they would produce one and unleash it upon the U.S.The soldiers ran for cover.Whether German or not, they were gonna be ready for when it landed.
Henry ran for a nearby tree thick enough to provide some safety. He now heard the thing as well as saw it.It was desending slower now,a continous thumping emmanating from it.Henry peeked from behind the tree.He felt week. There was a hovering ship, coming towards him. This isn't real.Hovering is pulp fiction.Something you read when your bored.Yet,as he thought this frantically,he saw it close in to the ground.A soldier across from Henry fired a shot at it.A turret swerved with amazing speed and...Oh good god!Henry made a prayer for the smoldering ash that was left of the Private. The turret swiveled three times,as if daring more men to try and attack.Henry was relieved to see none did.The ship descended to where the botton of the...Spaceship? was touching the ground. It's doors popped open and unleashed...unleashed...aliens?
Little stocky bastards that squealed and had hooves. The ***?More? Two tall aliens popped out as well.Their knees were backwards. They were about Seven foot five. Now this was crazy.Henry pinched his arms and legs, hoping to wake up.No luck. The doors shut on the thing and it went up,and up,and up until it was out of sight.Well,if they want me they will have a fight on their hands. He shouldered his Springfield and aimed it at one of the taller ones head.
"The Almighty is my savior, and he protects me from all."He pulled the trigger and saw a flash of light as the bullet ricochet off the thing.
As if that was a cue,the whole squad opened up on the aliens. The alien Henry had shot at went down from a second round. The machinegun started chattering. The little runts started running away.
"Mow'em down!!"Henry screamed as he hefted the rifle. One looked over its soldier to see if it was safe.Henry made sure that it's shoulders was the highest part of it's body. The runt crumbled in a spray of glowing blue blood. He trained his rifle on another runt ,but it was mowed down before he could kill it.
It was all over in a matter of minutes.Henry sat down and took in his surroundings.Puddles of blue and purple blood were scattered across the grass. He took a long swig from his canteen. This was gonna be an interesting war.
Ch.6
Linda looked turned on the radio as she began to relax for the hour before she had to go to sleep. After she heard a jingle telling exactly why you should buy Mervin brand soap,a news bulletin came on."Strange news tonight, folks.A stalky, little man was found killed tonight in a deserted field outside of New York."
Before Linda could change it,the reporter continued."But I wish that was the end to that one.Apparently, this man was not stabbed, not strangled, but burned to death.But...Its just strange. He had burns that made it through to his back but it is strangely neat.As though a flame flew through the man.He has been identified as Mikey Sanders. If you know this man or are related, please go to the authorities."Linda dropped her glass on the floor. It bounced harmlessly and only emptied its contents upon her feet.Mikey...That man.Mikey was the man from the bus.He hadn't been on today. She got up and started putting on her heavy coat. She must be a loon, but she might as well go and take a look. She did know him after all.
She stepped outside to find that a nasty storm was beggining. It shouldn't take long. She stopped a taxi and told him to take her to the NYPD headquarters. He complied without a word. Why waste words. He wanted the money, and wanted to get home.He dropped her off in no time flat. That storm was getting bad.She walked in and mentioned Mr.Sanders."Oh ,yes. How do you know Mr.Sanders?""I guess you could say he's a friend.""Alright, just go down stairs ans the door on your right."Linda thanked her and started down the stairs."Oh,and could you fill me in?"The secretary asked over her shoulder.Linda smiled and answered"Sure, why not?"
She walked down stairs and noticed the cold immediately. This was the morge so it made sense but still. She wrapped the coat tighter around her.She opened the door to her right and walked in.Noone was there.Except for Mikey. He was laid out on the table, face contorted into a tight grimace. He was deadly pale. What other pale would he be?She walked closer and examined him.He still looked the same. She noticed a depression in the sheets that was in the stomach area. She raised the sheets and gasped.
The announcer hadn't been lying. His stomach was a black hole. The edges were charred grotesqly. The insides of his intestine could be seen in sickening clarity. As if a doctor had sliced it perfectly. But no knife could do this. This was sickeningly...efficient.She replaced the sheets and slowly stepped back. She wanted to run away, not remeber this. She walked out of the room to see the secretary walking towards her."So?What's wrong with him?"Linda hesitated and murmered"Go look for yourself"As she walked up the stairs, she heard the secretary gasp ,much as she had.She walked outside to find a raging storm.Thunder exploding in the sky. This world, she thought,is a real messed up place.
Ch.7
Nigel looked at the little green object. He had picked it up off of one of the small, dead aliens he had seen that afternoon. It fascinated him.Was it a gun?A medallion? Was it even important? He had a feeling that the answer wouldn't allude him for long. There was still no word on what these things were, but the brass were very interested by the event. If not frightened. The Sarge was unaffected by the sight. He had been a proffesional soldier.Gather all that may be of use and leave. No doubt the Gestapo would have some men take a look at it.Nigel wished he could have had a longer look at the wreck. All Nigel knew for sure was that this war was gonna be...interesting.
He was sitting next to the fire with his close friend,Fritz Fluggenhein. They had been friends ever since their first battle, when Fritz had saved Nigel from a attacking englishman."So,what do you think it is Fritz?"Fritz looked away from the flame and just stared at the item for several seconds."My guess would be...a weapon. Those things weren't exactly cute looking. And we know that they must have been on an attack mission.Which brings me to an interesting thought.""You do know what happens when you think, right?"Nigel said, dead pan.Fritz gave a chuckle and continued."Yeah.And this is no exception."His face became serious."This isn't a small enemy group. Its a new species. It's a new thing all together."He looked into the fire."This is big. This is a global change. You think they're only here? They'll be everywhere. They have the means.Look at what you have in your hand. That is alien. That is not German, not American, not even Human.Alien."Nigel stared down at what was in his hands. This was all true, but Nigel couldn't truly in his heart except it.More like a dream.Something would show it was some weird experiment.Still."What do you think is going to happen?Aliens? What the hell?""Fritz chuckled."That's about the size of it alright."Fritz stood up and stretched."Well,I'm going to bed. You?"Nigel shook his head."Naw,I'll stay up a little longer.""Suit yourself."Fritz walked off to his tent to sleep.
"What are you?"he asked the object."What do you do?"He put it up against the light and looked for anything that might have provided a clue.It looked just like a broken bracelet. But just as easily a pistol. There was very little to marr it's smooth beauty. He stroked his hand over it and finally found some kind of lever. This may be noisy. He walked off from camp, just enough to be alone. He pointed it towards a little shrub abd pulled the lever. As he pulled,an arch of light spit forth from the thing. It splashed onto the shrubbling.Weapon.He was amazed at the destruction of it.The shrub smoldered and melted to the ground. He felt giddy at this discovery. He knew something none else knew.Well, now it had a purpose. He put the pistol into his pocket and went to bed with a head full of thoughts.Aliens?Who would have thought?
Ch.8
Caba was breathing in an excited breath of methane as he watched the Earth come closer to his ship. Soon, he would be able to prove himself to the Gods. He looked around to ensure his grunts were ready for the attack. They were all excited about their chance. They would be the only ones on the attack. No Sangheili, no Kigyar, just them. They would win their own glory.
"Fifteen cycles and counting. Prepare yourselves. "Announced a metallic voice over the intercom.Caba took in a deep breath and made himself noticeable."My friends,my comrades!Today,we fight for the gods!Today we fight for the Journey!"Caba's fellow Unggoy yelped and screamed in unison."The Journey! The Gods! The Unggoy Race!"The group cheered louder and louder and reached a summit at the mention of their race. This would be their time,no others! They slipped into the atmospere and slowly landed upon the ground. The doors jolted open and they exited with one more yell. Then all became quiet.
Each Unggoy hopped out into the dark night. They were in the middle of a field.Caba looked around to see very litlle of importance. He switched on heat seeking goggles designed for this planet. He read a small patch of heat radiating over a hill.He motioned his comrades to follow him. They all nodded and fell in behind him.As Caba made his way towards the heat signature,he began to hear some loud, aggravating noise.Bark!BarKRuff!.Whatever it was,it was aggravating Caba to no end.He looked out from under the goggles and saw it was a small animal, with a tail and black noser. It had spots all over and started running at them.
Before Caba realized this one of his soldiers fired his pistol at the animal. It yelped and slumped to the ground.Caba walked up to it and looked it over.Teeth,fur,ears...what was that?A small metal disk was on the animals neck and hung there by some material.WOLFGANG.Whatever it meant,it mattered very little to Caba. The source was apparently a house."Let us take this land for the Gods!!!!"Screamed Caba as he ran to the house.
"What was that daddy?"I don't know Sally, but I don't care for it a bit."Roger got out of his chair and walked into his bedroom. He picked up the shotgun in the corner and loaded both its barrels. He didn't quite know what was goin on but he was gonna end it.He walked out on the porch, shotgun raised to see...children?They were small litlle kids."What the hell you think you all are doin out here this late?"The children all stopped short and then the clouds shifted.
Roger saw the beady little eyes, the tanks, the pistols, these things. He raised the shotgun to his shoulder and fired his twelve-gauge shotgun twice. The little things screamed in pain and scattered.Roger ran into his home to see a frightened daughter and wife."What's happening?""Take Sally into the Attic. Now!"Sarah looked afraid but nodded.Roger went into his room and opened his chest. He pulled out a grenade from his old army days. The bastards wouldn't take him that easy.He reloaded his shotgun and sat on the bed.
Caba was angry.Angered by this assault on his squad. The human had discharged twice and taken five of his twenty Unggoy. This was the end for the human. He gathered up his Unggoy and told them to throw their grenades at the base of the house. He didn't wish to lose more soldiers.
Roger quietly snuck out of the house and put one of the creatures into his sights. He pulled the trigger and saw the things head vaporize. He threw the one grenade he had at the largest group and fired his last shot.He was mowed down moments later by a barrage of green light. He wasd finally out of the Army.
Caba hurried his Unngoy to place the grenades. They scurried about and did what was needed until all was done.Cab detonated the grenades and watched as the house began to collapse.Caba did not here the screams or care. They had done there job and he had learned something.Humility is a thing all must have to survive.
Ch.9
Henry was still uncertain about what was happening. Those things. What were they? What did they want?It was just so strange. He put his Springfield back together and took in his surroundings.Everyone was quiet.Last nights events had marked everyone it seemes.Hunt was quiet as a little lamb.He usually couldn't shut his big mouth. It seemed there was a feeling of foreboding felt by all.Henry got up and walked over to Hunt and patted him on the shoulder."It will all be fine my friend. You saw what we did to them. They didn't stand a chance against us."Hunt shook his head slowly.
"You went to bed too early Henry. The sargent made me test out each of the weapons we found on those aliens. You don't know what they can do!The power behind them.We aren't even aware of this kind of technology Henry. It's incredible."Hunt stopped and motioned for Henry to follow.Henry followed Hunt until they reached a small clearing.Hunt motioned at a small ,blackened stone."See that?"Henry nodded."That used to be my height and about as thick as a tree trunk.I used a small alien weapon to melt and destroy that rock into that pebble."He pointed over to a tree that was severly scarred."I fired 2 rounds from another weapon into that tree. They thudded in place and blew apart. Now,"He motioned for Henry to walk over to the tree",knock your knuckles on that tree."Henry reluctantly did.It was rock hard.It was a strong healthy tree. And yet two bullets?Shells?Had cut into it by five inches."Those are the things we know about. Can you imagine what else they could have? How strong they are?Now tell me once more. How is it all alright? They were most likely ill trained,we took them by surprise, they aren't used to being on this little planet of ours.Sure,we defeated a small group of unexperienced soldiers, but what next?"
Henry saw fear in Hunts face."What next?"he repeated.Henry felt uncertain.Hunt may have been a big mouth but his word was gold. And he was upset.Henry walked up to him."How many Krauts does it take to make a hotdog?"Hunt grinned."How many?""That depends. How much you want?"Hunt let out a chuckle and Henry grinned.Hunt and him had always shared that joke.Ever since training. His face constricted."This is no laughing matter."He relented."Not that I can do much of anything about it.What you may want to worry about is home."Hunt had unknowingly just poked at one of Henry's only fears.Linda's safety.Henry had no idea what she was doing. If she was safe.He wasn't afraid of dying. Not afraid of capture. But he was afraid for Linda's safety. He walked away to clean his rifle. His only release out here.
Ch.10
Linda got out of bed, getting ready for work once more. She walked into the kitchen and started making her sandwich for lunch. As she started making coffe, she heard a small rumbling. She disregarded it as a background noise. She sat down and turned on the radio. As she did she heard the familiar little jingle saying repeadedly why you should by Jimmy Jones Fruit Cakes. She gave a tired chuckle.Try eating one of them and you'd know exactly how much sugar they used.As she began to get up to get coffee a bulletin came on."Attention! This an emergency broadcast."
She stopped half way to the kitchen. The last time she had heard this kind of announcement, the Japs had attacked Pearl Harbor. She walked back to the radio."-hat it is.It is said to be of German origin but confirmation is has not been attained."She heard a rumble in the distance."We advice all who listen to evac-"Static took screamed at her.Oh no.She began to shake. The Germans? Were they attacking? How?She went outside and looked around.
At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Then she saw smoke.Ugly black billowing smoke. She heard a faint noise, like a machine reving up at the factory. Then she saw something else.Something that made her afraid.A bolt of green light flew through the sky. When it dissapeared behind the sky line, the sickly black smoke emerged anew. She heard other noises.Sirens, crackling flames,and...screaming.She shook herself and looked at the street.People were running away with little more than a single suitcase.
Her next door neighbor,Mrs.Donnsly, yelled to Linda."Hurry! We have to get out of here!"Linda nodded and ran into her room. She grabbed several pairs of underwear, work pant and shirt and slammed tham into a suitcase. She stopped and went to her bed side drawer.Henry, with his phobia of her being unsafe, had gotten her a snub nosed .22 pistol. It was small, loud, and just enough knock down power. He had gotten it from his brother Donny. She had felt uneasy about how Donny's 'contacts' had gotten the piece. But Henry had made her keep it.As she stuffed it and the bullets into her pockets she looked for the sheet of paper....there!If she ever was in ditress,Henry had said,go there. She pocketed it and left with her luggage.
"What took you so long?!""I had to get some stuff."replied Linda.Mrs.Donnsly was nearly sixty compared to Linda's twenty-nine.They went with the mob as it surged down the street.Mrs.Donnsly looked over to Linda."Where are we going?"Linda remembered the adress."I got an idea."
Ch.11
Nigel woke up to the sound of gunfire. He jumped out of his sleeping bag and got out of the tent.It was early morning and he saw the things. His breath caught. They were ugly little bastards. They made Nigel want to hide somewhere, anywhere but here. His rifle! He had left it out last night.Of all his idiotic...He reached into his pocket and pulled out the Alien weapon. Why not test it further?
Nigel ran towards his comrades defensive position. There were thirteen aliens.Ten small Runts waddlin towards the barricade and three tall blue creatures. They seemed the picture of nobility.Too bad the picture was gonna be messy. He leveled the pistol at a Runt and fired a short burst into it's face.It crumpled in a heap. The rest of the Runts saw this and began to yell and run at him.His comrades cut them down in earnest. The Nobles in back saw this and followed suit.Nigel was shocked for a moment when he heard the squad MG42 open up.Then he realized it was on his side and relaxd. But they weren't quite safe yet.A grunt that had survived was slowly making his way behind the squad.Nigel heard to simultaneous beeps and turned to see a Runt running at Fritz with two glowing blue orbs.He shot it in the leg with the pistol and hit it in the leg.It fell and...exploded.The two sphere ignited and turned the Runt into a smoldering crater.Nigel looked back at Fritz to see him unharmed.
He turned around to see the last blue Noble let out a ghastly scream. It was a sound of anger,of sadnes, and of desperation. It ran at the barricade between the Germans and it.In turn for it's bravery,it was mowed down in no time. They were all dead.Nigel sat down on the ground and sighed.Fritz walked over and sat next to him."Thanks."Nigel nodded and looked at the pistol in his hand.It was glowing red intead of green. He aimed it at a corpse and fired.Nothing.He looked it over.No real cartridge or bullets. So what?It ran out and that was it?He shook head head and got up.Fritz followed."I think I'll get one of those too."Along with Nigel,Fritz looked for a new pistol.Nigel found one next to a Runt corpse and Fritz found one near another.Fritz looked at his newly found prize."Don't seem like much.""Don't worry. It has plenty of fire power. You saw."Fritz nodded thoughtfuly and put in his rucksack.
A private ran up to them and told them that Sturmbannführer Fritz wanted them immediatley. As he walked to the Sturmbannführer's tent,he saw some of his fellow men were taking the fight in different ways. Some of the more radical men were excited by the fight."You see what I did to those Untermenschen?I blewem apart! They don't compare to the Aryan race!"Oh,Nigel disliked that cocky little ***.He was gonna lead to there death some day.His parents were big party members but he had to fight.Such ignorance.Well, maybe Playboy would get a transfer. As he walked on he saw others seemingly afraid. They had a healthy dose of fear in them.He waved to them and the group smiled and waved back.
He entered the tent to find a hunched over and harassed looking man.He looked up and raised his right arm."Heil Hitler!"Both men followed suit.He motioned them closer. They obeyed and walked up to his table."Well men.I feel you understand that we are not facing just the Allies anymore?"Both men nodded."Good.Because this may help drive it home."He picked up a envelope and gave it to them."Take a look. It's all true. Not one part is changed.""Sir?"questioned Nigel."Just look!"Nigel complied.
They were pictures. He saw a city burning.Charred bodies in the street. He saw a..."Sir?What is that?"Sturmbannfuhrer Fritz looked up with a grimace."Well...With the lovely addition of these ugly Saukerl,it is most likely of alien manufacture.Do you know where these pictures are from, gentlemen?"Nigel and Fritz shook their heads. The Sturmbannfuhrer's face changed. It was now a smirk."These are pictures are from New York City,New York."Nigel felt a slight twinge. It was hard to decide in this moment whether this was good or bad news.On one hand,a strong enemy was being crippled. On the other...He looked back down at the pictures. This could happen to his town. This could happen to Berlin.
"-and I expect it to stay that way."Nigel looked up."I'm sorry?"The Sturbannfuhrer repeated himself."I would like this to stay...unknown.These men are afraid. They wouldn't be able to take this.'he motioned to the pictures.'The reason you are being told is that, should we come upon one of these,I would like some men not be frozen in stupidity.Understoood?""Understood."Both men chorused. The Sturbannfuhrer rose and extended his right arm."Heil Hitler!"Nigel and Fritz returned the salute."Dismissed."As the two left the tent, one thing went through Nigel's brain."My town,my country..."
Ch.12
Caba shook his head. They had been foolish.Full of hot air.Full of pride. What was pride but a tool to construct failure? They had, technically, fulfilled their mission. But realistically, they had done nothing but prove their incompetence.Caba had had to call back the transport. They were supposed to have stayed on Earth and continued fighting. But one problem marred this.Out of the twenty Unngoy he had started with, one single Human had caused the death of twelve. They had returned back to the Unyileding Truth in utter silence. It was a grim recognition. All could now see it.They had failed in proving themselves. They had failed to prove their race.
Caba would take the punishment. As soon as the transport docked,he made his way to the platform. As he walked,he questioned what might occur.Would he be demoted into a suicide squad?Would he be put down for cleanup until the end of the war? What? Each choice seemed in itself horrible. He entered the platform to see the Ship Master looking unhappy.Angered maybe. He rose his head and looked down at Caba."You were given a small duty.To take a single enemy home.To attack a secluded, simple target. But what happens Caba?A single Human decimates your force. You only won with numbers."Caba was silent as the Ship Master repirmanded him."In hindsight,I am to blame. You were unexperienced. You did not understand combat. However, this does not excuse your blatant disregard for safety and precautions. From now on,you are not a leader. You are a follower. You will be in a grouping going into the Eastern continent.Dismissed."Caba slumped and nodded."Yes,ShipMaster."
Caba slowly walked. He only knew he was going to the Unngoy compartment sublimally. He walked through the corridors. It could have been worse,he consoled himself. He eventually made his way to the Unngoy compartment. All went silent as he entered. He would be shunned. He had expected as much.As he sat down on his bunk,he felt the eyes of the Unngoy. He slept a hesitant sleep until he was to meet his new grouping.
He awoke agitated and got out of his bunk.Well, lets get this over with,he thought in annoyance. As he made his way to the upper levels of the Unyielding Truth,he wondered what kind of group he would be with.Had they heard of his mistakes?Would they treat him like dirt?It hardly mattered. His kind was and had always been on the bottom of the pole. This, should it turn out as much, would just be another dissapointment.Another degrading chore in Unngoy history. He reached the designated room and opened the doors with a silent hiss.Well, let's see who they are.He walked into the room and was confronted by an elite."Wort blargh wort wort?"What do you want?Caba looked up."I am the new Unngoy. And you are?"The elite sneered at Caba."I am the Unit Leader. And that would make you...Caba?""Yes...sir."The Sangheili nodded his head and looked to the rest of Caba's new Combat Group. Two other Sangheili, five Kig-yar,and several grunts. Each group stayed separate, all to their own group.Caba looked up to the Sangheili."I hope I serve you well,Unit Leader."This was his new destiny. How fickle destiny can be.
Ch.13
Henry looked at Linda as she smiled at him."I told you I would get home.Safe and sound."he said in happiness. Her smile got bigger."Those aliens were push overs. It was easy to win.All you had to do was sing.So obvious right?"Linda continued to smile, but otherwise stayed still."Hunny? Are you gonna talk to me?"he asked playfully. He touched her shoulder and her grin dissapeared. It was replaced by fear. She quivered."They are not pushovers,Henry. They are evil things."The dress she was wearing began to redden and blacken."They want us extinct,Henry! They want us forever gone."Her face contorted into a grimace. Then it changed. It slowly changed from a lucsious and healthy pink,to a bluish hue.She began to grow. Her mouth split in two, separating into four pieces. She spoke again in a language he didn't know. And then what had been Linda fell. She changed from the creature to Linda again. She was covered in her own blood.Henry fell to his knees and prayed. What is happening? Why me?What have I done?He looked up to see her eyes staring into his.Her cold, dead eyes...
Henry jerked awake with a scream. He was drowning in his own sweat. The tent was closing in around him.Hunt, being next to him, jerked awake and nearly nailed Henry in the nose."Henry?Henry!Would you shut up before the Krauts hear you.Not to mention these new little ***."Henry had stopped screaming. His eyes darted around the tent.As he slowly awoke from his dream. He remembered he was in a tent,in France,in the Army.He calmed himself and layed back on his sleeping bag."Would you mind telling me why you took it into your hands to wake me up?"asked Hunt.Henry shook his head and Hunt nodded."Fine.Now then. Can I go back to sleep?"He assumed the silence was a yes and rolled over.Henry stayed awake. Was Linda safe? What if she wasn't?He didn't know what would happen if she was hurt.He slowly fell into an uneasy rest. This time,he dreamed a happier dream. The day he had first met Linda. It had been his first year of High school. He had been afraid of the huge school. And felt pressured by the weight of the work. Then Linda had came. She had helped him along.Helped him belong. They had gone out for the first time five days after they first met.It was a good dream...
Henry awoke to feel Hunt shaking him."Get your ass up."Henry murmured that he could kiss it and got up.He crawled out of the tent to the smell of coffee and something that was just to the right of breakfast. He took out his mess kit and got in what passed for a chow line.It seemed that today they would have some bacon.God bless the country side, thought Henry as he bit into a salty chunk of meat.He finished it and gulped down his coffee.No...not coffee but it opened your eyes.He brought out his rifle and inspected it.It was clean. In fact,it was cleaner and better kept than most.He dissassembled it and did a quick cleanout. The one day he didn't clean it out,he knew it would bite him in the ass.As he finished up,an explosion rocked the ground out from under his feet.He put the gun together quickly and looked to the smoldering crater. It was five feet in diameter and two feet deep."Artillery!"The cry burst forth from the throats of his fellow men as a ball of blue light began to fall from the sky.Henry ran and dove on his stomach. What was this?He looked up and felt his heart sink. The sky was aflame with blue.Henry ran away from the barrage of blue hell fire. The war had begun. It would not be a good war.It would be The Great War.
Ch.14
Lieutenant Riswoll Gunter watched through his field binoculars at the scene below. There were two enemy tanks at the bottom of the hill, with their rear armor looking straight at him.Scratch two,he thought to himself. He silently got on the radio."I have two purple beetles.Confirm target."He got five "Jawhols!"over the head set."Fire on my mark."He looked over to his gunner,Alfred Holtzein."Aim on the rear armor."Alfred looked up at him past the metal separating them."Am I really that dumb,Herr Gunter?"he joked. He brought the barrel down to bare."Alles gut."It was set.Riswoll grinned a evil smile and tapped on the metal inside. He stated quietly."Fire."His eighty eight millimetre cannon let loose a roar. The Armor Piercing round ran through the Alien tank. The other tanks let roar along side him.A clean easy victory. He looked up to the beautiful blue sky.It had been three days since America had been officially invaded.Upon the approach of this immediate threat, there had been an unspoken agreement.A truce,if you will.He looked back down to see the ruins of the enemy tanks. They had attack swiftly. No alarms should have been sent.
Once at the bottom of the small hill,Riswoll hopped out of his Tiger tank.He took pride in the fact that his tank had stayed untouched as of so far.He walked over to the wreckage.Berlin wanted technology from these things. He had no idea why. They were quite easy to kill. But it was not his decision. He called for the man attached to his group to inspect the wreckage. His duty was,to put it simply,to inspect. To see if any of the mess left over after a battle was worth sending on back.He wondered through the twisted remains and came up with little.A few pieces of what Riswoll considered junk, and that was it.Riswoll got back into the Tiger tank.He put on the head set and flicked a switch."Good job men.We are going to move west until we meet up with an enemy force.just another day in the Panzer Corp."The crews cheered and and revved up the engines.Riswoll stood up in the cupola and watched his tanks move.He always liked to ride with his head out of the tank.It was nice on a warm day like this. But,as what you may call a prerequisite to being a commander,it could be seen as a show of leadership and strength. He watched the country side roll past him.It was peaceful. It was quiet.
Riswoll got on the head set and barked an order."All stop!"The Tigers ground to a halt."Scouts!I want a five mile line of sight.Go!"The scouts that were in the tanks hopped out and started their jog to keep ahead.Riswoll would give them ten minutes to get to their appropriate positions. He looked down to Alfred."Do you have a smoke?"Alfred nodded to himself."When don't I?"He handed up one and gave it to Riswoll.Alfred had always been a scrounger. But his supplies might begin to run low with this developement. He showed no hesitation in giving his friend a ciggarete. This went through Riswoll's head in seconds."Thank you."He took it and lit up.Ahhh...The Americans cold make a fine ciggarette. One more minute.Riswoll savored a last puff of the cigarette and threww it out."All go."He spoke into the head set.The Tigers started up and moved.Looking for a new prey to feast on.
Ch.15
Linda looked up from the stove to see Henry walking into the living room. She dropped the spoon she was holding and ran to him.Tears rolled down her eyes.He was home.He opened his arms, awaiting his wife's embrace. Then something rocked the house. Then she saw the green light.
Linda jumped out of her sleep. She looked around, bewildered and wondering where she was.She slowly took in her surroundings. She was in a barn out in the country. This had been the "safety" address. She layed back down. She had been running on fumes finding this 'safehouse'.A moonshine barnhouse. What a wonderful fortress. But,it did provide something she and Mrs.Donnsly needed.Shelter.Linda got up from the hey she had used as a bed and inspected it closer.Crates of moonshine in the corner. And little else.
The farmhouse that this barn was a apart of,was one hundred yards off.She looked around outside and saw no movement. It was like a normal morning.Birds were chirping. The sun began to rise and everything was still cold. But there were differences. The air was tainted with smoke and dust.New York City was,to her and everyone else, gone. She slowly walked to the house in hopes of finding food. She stepped up on the porch and opened the porch door with a horrendous screech. As she looked around, she felt a twinge of remorse. There were toys strown across the carpeting. But the remorse was short lived. She didn't know the people and they were either safe or gone.Just like New York City. She found the kitchen with little trouble.First, she checked the fridge to see if anything was any good.Upon opening the fridge door, she was greeted with a sickening smell. It had all gone bad.She frowned and turned to the cabinets. She opened these to find little of use.Flour, baking soda, salt. She continued through each cabinet until they were all hanging open. She had found a box of cereal half eaten and random cans of food. Not a feast, but with the hunger she felt,it would do.She stuffed all of this into a pillow case she found in the bedroom. It would hold well.
As she began to exit the house, her thoughts turned not to food, but to safety. She had a small revolver, with a grand total of sixteen bullets. She looked about the house looking for something that might help her.First, she took a butcher knife from the kitchen. She wrapped it up in a large towel and fashioned a holster.Next, she looked in the bedroom. It had a small bed and smelt of perfume. She searched the chest at the foot of the bed, only to find quilts and blankets. She looked through the wardrobe and was awarded with a twelve gauge shotgun. No bullets. She spent another ten minutes scouring the room for them until she found a box containing twenty shells.Perfect.She stuck the box of bullets into her pocket along side the snub nose revolver ammunition. As she began to leave the house,a scream echoed throughout the land.Mrs.Donnsly!Linda dropped the shotgun and ran to where the scream had resounded from.
Mrs.Donnsly was on the ground, bleeding.Smoke rose up from her wound on her chest. And then she looked over and saw it.A thing the size of a teenager. It had beedy little eyes and claws and looked like a monster. Her hand unconciously grabbed the butcher knife. It let out a garbled yelp and then it was silent.Linda implanted all seven inches of the knife into the groove around its neck.Blue blood showered her as she pulled it out and plunged it into the ugly creature again. She took out the knife and pushed it back into the makeshift holster. She heard running. It was coming from behind the barn wall. She ran.She did not look behind her.She ran until she got to the farmhouse and scooped up the shotgun. She ran into the house and closed the door with a slam. She broke the shotgun and placed two shells into the chamber. When she looked back at where she had been, she stayed quiet.
Two blue creatures that stood at nearly seven feet walked towards the barn. They help weapons at their sides and roared as they began to run towards her.She closed the shotgun and aimed it towards them. This would be how she died. The craetures were only twenty feet from the door.Just a little closer...As she started to squeeze the trigger,a roar was let out.It was not the roar of the creatures. It was the roar of weapons.Of rifles.Of pistols.Of everygun a man may own.The creatures flew to the ground and layed still.Linda couls not believe her eyes. She was alive. She would stay alive. She ran out of the farmhouse to see what had happened.Twenty men.Twenty grimy, smiling, and strong looking men.A older man, perhaps forty, ran up to her and asked her if she was ok."Yes...Who are you?"asked Linda, still slightly jarred from the past twenty minutes.Amazing what can happen in twenty minutes.Your friend can die.You can face death. You can defeat death. And you can find safety. All in twenty minutes."My name is Bart.Bart Harvey."Linda looked up to him."Thank you."
