    An Elites Tale

(This is a story for elite fans, so I’m telling you now if you don’t want to read about humans getting annihilated, don’t read this fan fic. The story is about the arbiter in his younger days, and since I don’t know his real name, I decided to name him Osteros Delanine. In this tale, Osteros will be commanding a squad of five combat elites, and his squad will be accompanied by an assault squad, led by Vendum Ekin, and they are to infiltrate and destroy the main power plant linked to the capitol city Ithaca, of the planet Hestus, ten years before the discovery of Halo. The interesting thing about Vendum is that he has converted to Catholicism, and only Osteros (the arbiter) knows of his conversion. Osteros is patient with his comrade’s decision; as long as Vendum’s new faith does not hamper his ability to fight, he will not report him to the hierarchs.

Here’s a summary of the squads under Osteros, and Vendum’s command.

    Combat Squad: (Osteros)                  Weapons                                 Armor

Brother Osteros (Major)           Needler, Energy Sword                        Combat (Red)

Brother Telos (Minor)               Carbine, Plasma Riffle                         Combat (Blue)

Brother Grelus (Minor)             Carbine, Plasma Riffle                         Combat (Blue)

Brother Isthan (Minor)              Dual Plasma Riffles                             Combat (Blue)

Brother Resman (Minor)           Fuel Rod Cannon, Plasma Riffle           Combat (Blue)

Brother Thukus (Minor)            Beam Riffle, Carbine                            Combat (Blue)

    Assault Squad: (Vendum)                  Weapons                                 Armor

Brother Vendum (Major)          Needler, Energy Sword                        Assault (Red)

Brother Tekris (Minor)             Chainsword, Plasma Riffle                    Assault (Blue)

Brother Caros (Minor)            Chainsword, Plasma Riffle                    Assault (Blue)

Brother Devran (Minor)             Chainsword, Plasma Riffle                  Assault (Blue)

Brother Selcos (Minor)          Chainsword, Plasma Riffle                    Assault (Blue)

Brother Aras (Minor)               Chainsword, Plasma Riffle                    Assault (Blue)

The assault squad consists of new recruits, so instead of being granted energy swords, they are equipped with chainswords ( Warhammer fans know) and must prove their worth before being given the honorary weapon. They are also equipped with jump packs to allow them to quickly get to grips with the enemy.
The story unfolds as two Phantoms make their way from the atmosphere to the power plant. It is night fall, and the plant is located inside one of the many army camps on Hestus, but the Phantoms are cloaked, and are able to drop off both squads without being detected. Squads Osteros and Vendum make their way to the plant, but as expected they run into resistance.)

                                                               Chapter 1
Brother Osteros carefully made his way through the trees that covered the compound. His squad did the same, trying their best not to make a sound. The ground was soft, and was able to mask the sounds of their approach. Osteros breathed a silent prayer to the Gods for the favor they had shown this night. Clouds covered the sky, blocking out the moon and the stars, making his and Vendum’s squad all but invisible. Osteros continued on through the thicket, but the sound of approaching voices made him halt. He held up his hand for his squad to do the same. He looked behind him, and saw that Vendum’s squad had also stopped. Osteros calmed his breathing, and strained to hear what the approaching marines were saying.
“I can’t believe she accepted my proposal.” one of them said. “I don’t think I’ve ever been happier.”
Another voice made itself clear with a laugh.
“Donnie, you are probably the luckiest guy alive.  I’m guessing that she has no idea you slept with her sister.”
Donnie laughed and said “Nope. Gloria doesn’t have the slightest clue, and I hope she doesn’t stick her nose into anything, I’d hate to break it.”
They both laughed, and Osteros heard Vendum snarl at the marines words.
“Osteros” said Vendum over the com “let me take care of these wretches, they vex me greatly.”
Osteros nodded, and he could sense a smile under Vendum’s helmet. Vendum told his squad to hold position, and he set off after the marines.

                                                                        ***

Vendum’s vision was blurred due to the rage building inside. He couldn’t believe the words that had made their way out of the cur Donnie’s mouth and he wanted to do everything in his power to silence the man, permanently.
In a matter of seconds, Vendum was within a few yards of the marines, and they were still unaware of his presence. He leapt into the air, and landed right behind them. He drew his sword, and the hiss it made as it activated got their attention. Vendum cut the unnamed marine in half without a word, fresh crimson splashing both him and Donnie. Before Donnie could scream, Vendum had him pinned to the ground, his free hand  around Donnie’s throat. Donnie tried to call for help, but Vendum’s grip tightened and Donnie gasped for air.
Vendum leaned forward and whispered “And you wonder why we wage war upon you? Your kind reeks of decadence, and it was flawed from the start. I wonder why God didn’t wipe out your kind when Eve took the fruit, but that is beyond me. I will make sure that every last one of your species is pilled up and rotting by the time this war is over, I swear!"
Donnie’s eyes widened with fear, and his mouth was agape with shock at Vendum’s words.
Vendum laughed and said “What? Does it scare you that I can speak your language? That is by far the least of your worries wretch.”
He pointed his sword to Donnie’s chest and said “Time to die.”
Vendum plunged his blade into Donnie’s heart, and the marine twitched as his organs liquefied. He let out a gasp before his body stilled, and Vendum withdrew his blade and deactivated it.
He activated his com and said “Vendum to Osteros, can you hear me?”
A few seconds passed and he was replied with “Yes, I can hear you Vendum. Did you take care of those marines?”
“I did Osteros, the way to the plant is clear.”
“Good, we will be with you soon.”
Vendum waited, and within minutes, Osteros was beside him with both squads waiting for orders.
Vendum turned towards Osteros, and asked “What are your commands?”
Osteros looked towards the power plant in the clearing ahead and replied “We continue as planned, I think we are strong enough to accomplish our goal.”
Vendum nodded and Osteros said over the com “We have till sunrise to get this done, and as you know, the hierarchs are impatient. Move out!”
Both squads nodded their heads in acknowledgment, and continued towards the plant, excited at the coming battle.

Pretty good story. I like the new viewpoint, especially the idea of a Catholic Elite. Different, very different.

    Keep it up.

    Re: An Elites Tale

Very deep detail, usually too much detail can stall a story and make it tedious to read. But you prevented it from being tedious and made it involving too the point of it feeling like a real world. This is an amazing persona that conveys emotion, world events, dialogue and each characters individual contribution to great effect.

I forever behold you as a talented writer and am looking forward to your encroaching chapters.

    Exalting work my friend.
