Im new to this and all but ive read some posts about halowars taking place before master chief. So are the spartans we all saw in the trailer prototypes/ the  first spartans or what?

They are just one of the first spartan batches made i think...

Well in the Halo Books they start off Fall Of Reach with the introduction of the Spartan II Program.  Their could have been a Spartan I Program you never know.  Anyone else have any further knowledge on this?

lol, i cant believe how many times this has been asked, they ARE the SPARTAN IIs, John etc. were already SPARTANs when the War began.

And As I Said before, the orignal spartans were from the GREEK about 3000 years before the game timeset 

Guys way before events of this game the Spartan II's  (yes including John 117, aka the Master Chief)  were trained and put into battle.  They werent always against the Covenant.  They were created to put down rebellions in the UNSC interstellar empire.  The Spartans you see in the trailer are probably wearing a different type of the MJOLNIR Combat Armor, i would think probably a Mark IV.  Not long before the events of Halo the Spartans recieved the MJOLNIR Mark V Armor we know and love, and the first armor with shields.  So even though their armor looks different they still are the same spartans.  Any questions feel free to ask.

but lets remember that prior to the events on halo 1 the SPARTANs armors were different,

i dont rememer exactly how much but was about a few days before the fall of reach and the events in halo that the spartans got the mjolnir with shields(the one from halo 1) this is revealed in "the fall of reach"

so maybe this armors are the ones that they had, before shields were added

we may even se master chief in this game

Okay, the Spartans there, if it took place at the beginning of the Covenant War, would be Spartan II's.  However, Grand Master raises an interesting point: They wouldn't have armor back then.  The Mark IVs were never used by Spartans, nor were any armor of the type.  Before Mjolnir Mark V, the spartans wore black combat jumpsuits.  I expect that the one's in this game are wearing the armor because otherwise a lot of fans wouldn't recognize them as the Spartans, as Mjolnir is kind of the only identifying thing they have.

I am guessing they are Spartan I's. Although, they could be Spartan II's... the game it said to be before the Xbox game of Halo; therefore, you never know. All I know is that Halo Wars is going to kick-ass.

Though the Master Cheif was part of Spartan II program, the spartans of the second program were the first to have the armor. If I recall correctly all the spartans in the original Spartan program were killed due to augmentations and what not. There was supposed to be another batch of spartans comeing out but the Covies invaded Reach. So...the Master Cheif and his spartens were the only ones in armor.

There was no Spartan-I project.  The Spartan II Project was named after the culture from Sparta.

Very true, I forgot about the armor. But there has been some speculation that Sergeant Johnson is a Spartan I, and that there was a cover-up for his plasma disease[Boronsyndrome, I think] that was mentioned in 'First Strike'. The Spartan III's are the guys on the cover of the Ghosts of Onyx, in my opinion, but we'll just have to wait and see in a couple of months when we get the next Halo book. (I can't wait any longer for more Halo stuff!!!!)

I would hope O.N.I. has more sense then to throw a prototype Spartan or anything for that matter into a battlezone.

Also there were Spartan I's, and some even returned home and lived normal civillian lives. One example is Jan's father from the I Love Bees story. His daugther was a Spartan 1.1 if I recall.

There was a Spartan 1 project if any of you listened to the I love Bees Audios It states that the Spartan ones where the best of the best soldiers of the army trained and given implants and chemical enhancements to make them stronger. They where still human without the growth enhancement and metal skelly.
