does anybody wonder what might happen to the spartans after they finish the war. Well after they find master chief and the spartans trapped in onyx get out what will the UNSC do with them. Retire them or keep them to study them further on?

I suppose they go back to rebel control.

I figured the Master Chief would become a cashier at the local Target.

But, they will probably be pulled from active duty, after the price they paid fighting the Covenant. If something big were to rise again, they'd probably be called back into duty. Or, as Rot said, rebel control.

Then again, if I were a Spartan, I'd feel rather dumb fighting poorly armed rebels after taking on multiple alien races with superior technology. It'd be like having Marines fighting schoolyard bullies.

No... I have never wondered that. [/end sarcasm]

There is still more fighting to be done.  Even though the covenant leadership has been severely castrated, the covenant itself is not gone and there are plenty of brutes left that hate the elites just as much as they use to (probably more so since they killed their prophets).  So, I think they will keep the spartans in active duty assuming they ever find them, though there might be more downtime in between missions.

 Also, I wonder how long spartans would live... relatively speaking, not literally because they use cryo sleep a lot.  But relatively speaking, 500 years from now they have to have improved healthcare and there for expanded the average human life span at least a little longer.  But would the Spartans augmentations allow them to live longer or put too much stress on their bodies over time and make them live shorter lives.  I could see a Spartan, even relatively, living for a very long time.

 Thats a good point actually! how long would a spartan live? I say they could probably could live for twice that of a human life cycle. They are in the best of shape and training is important to them but then again they would probably get them selves killed somewhere or other as they would volenteer for every suicide mission there is. Besides if their organs fail the UNSC will pay to have them replaced with clones of the organs.     Come to think of it would spartans get full health care? most likely but their health insurance would be through the roof! I also think the UNSC will probably elavate their rank and have them planning missions and tatical scenarios due to their tatical minds.

 p.s. sorry for the bad health care and insurance joke.
