 I see several possibilities for a Weapon of Mass Destruction like the Halos: energy-based, biologically/chemically-based, metaphysically-based, nuclear-based. Because the Halos selectively destroy sentient life, it could be metaphysics, or perhaps biological to seek out certain neuronal populations that give the consciousness of sentience. But yes, Installation 05 looked like it was firing an energy weapon...^^
