Oh well, Rot's a pretty cool guy anyways. 

Well, I've always been curious why sig images got banned. I know both guys who broke the forums with their sigs, and both used HTML, and I'm fairly certain ES knew how they did it too.

And even more to the point, if sig images were banned because it was too complex to change the coding of the site to allow sig images but not HTML, then why was their a giant fuss about us posting images at the bottom of our posts, to you point where the [img] tags were completely banned?

Yeah but people would still abuse it. Since we weren't hosting the signature images themselves, people could abuse them (and they did). We don't have the resources to moderate every signature, and when people started abusing them, we disabled it.

But you had the users. We all knew the rules, and bad sigs got reported right away. Generally speaking, most sigs were harmless, like mine. A picture that makes a vague reference to something I like with my username in it.
