ChickenHawk: Hello everyone.
I picked up Halo Wars on the 26th of Feb 09. Where I come from we had it first in the world (legitimately anyway).
I watched this community and its posts grow as people picked this game up and realised is treasures and its failings. Most posts when this game was released were about percieved game imbalance and recommendations for correcting game balance and recommendations for DLC.
Of course there were many heated discussions about leader rushes, warthog rushes, ghost rushers, elephant rushes, and how "all rushers are fine gentlemen". Even posts with kids bitching about how someone resigned and he felt cheated because he wanted the extra points.
About April 09, the most posted comments were about multiplayer strategies, rushers, how rushers are fine gentlemen, SP campaign strategies, achievements and even ideas to prevent boosting. I do remember when ROBOT commited to eliminate boosting by banning players that deliberately cheat/boost. The ROBOT moderators are on record in declaring that they will take care of boosting by banning offenders.
I then get busy with my life and this game gets shelved against other commitments. I come back again just today, (I only found out about the leaderboard reset a week ago) and all the posts here are about TS skill, who is crap, who is legit, and who cheated to get their TS leaderboard stat. There appears to be limited discussion about anything else, from what I saw.
So, is this all there is to this game right now? Kids accusing kids of cheating and kids rebutting by saying "prove it or STFU"
I can just barely understand that leaderboard "status" may be a big deal to some people, however that seems to be all that is consuming everyone on the forums these days. Is this what this game has come to? Can I expect anything more from this game in the future? (ie it not being about your freakin TS leaderboard status). It just seems to me that Halo Wars has sunken into this pit of trash where everyone are sizing up their e'peen, and the game itself has taken a back seat in respect to the actual content contained in the forums.
So, thoughts? Should I trade this game in? Is this what the future holds for this title?
There are a few things humans will never stop needing: Food, violence, and pointless arguments.
I honestly don't see any connection between the forums and the game, besides the obvious... this is just a place where people come to complain, or (if they are some of the chosen few) post their ideas on how to make the game better - ideas which are good but which, tragically, are completely ignored because everyone's too busy fighting over which unit is the least fair.
Anyway, I got bored of HW and am waiting for ODST to get shipped to me... so I looked through my games and decided to play Halo CE, which I haven't done for years.
Truth be told, I'm having more fun with that than with Halo Wars.
