hell the US doesn't have the best army man-for-man in the world, that title belongs the the UK, followed closely by Germany
I'd have to disagree with you there. I think France would come second, and then Germany. I'm not saying this because I'm French, I'm saying this because our French Foreign Legion is regarded as some of the most elite men and women on Earth.
Actually, you know what, to be honest, I don't think there can be a "best unit in the world". The British SAS, the French Foreign Legion, the Russian Spetsnaz, the German GSG-9, and so on, all of them are elite, very well-trained units. In their individual armies, we just can't say. A French soldier could be more experienced than a British soldier, or a British soldier could be more experienced than a French soldier, etc. etc.
Actually, a better question should have been: who would win, a 21st century Earth or the Halo universe? Any one country, even the United States, will get obliderated by the combined forces of Halo.
It doesn't matter how many countries you bring into the mix the fact still stands..
UNSC alone would destroy the combined Earth, most likely because it is a combined Earth plus about 799 planets.
Covenant alone would just obliterate everyone and everything without leaving their ships.
Flood, well ever hear that 1 flood spore could destroy an entire galaxy or something like that.
And what happens when you bring all of them together?
Well they would destroy us just by thinking about it.
you guys are kidding right? France has an elite army? yeah okay and im king gorge
none are battle tested...what major engagments have they been in? NONE
U.S has the most 21st century battle experince in the world
however, our soldeirs are more expendible, and not as cared for. (pampered) if you will, they have good training yes, there is no doubt. Legendary training sure.
But when End War roles around
we will see who is supirour
First off, you better do your research before you make unverified claims about us having no battle experience.
Or, since you're obviously too incompetent, how about I do it?
Why don't we start from the end of World War II, huh? Let's see...we fought for 9 hellish years in French Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia). The war became very unpopular in France, and it was wearing down on the French economy and military---the U.S. was eventually paying 2/3 of our war costs. Eventually, we had to pull out, and then the Americans came in some time later.
The Algerian War lasted for 8 years and we fought in that too. Eventually, de Gaulle pulled out all French troops in Algeria and granted it its independance. But it was another hellish war, with both sides using nasty tactics to achieve their goals.
We fought in the Korean War too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Battalion_in_the_Korean_War Look there for a detailed description.
And from then on, our military did peacekeeping missions all around the world, particularly in former French colonies in Africa and the Middle East.
We participated in the Gulf War, sending 18,000 troops to the conflict, the second largest European contributor. We operated on the left flank of the Coalition force, fighting alongisde the XVIII Airborne Corps. One of our objectives, an objective my dad was part of, was to capture a key Iraqi airport. Our main force fighting was the 6th Light Armored Division.
And now? We're still doing peacekeeping operations in the former Yugoslav states, we're fighting in Afghanistan, we're still doing peacekeeping in Africa. Although we leave the bulk of the heavy fighting to the U.S., we have our fair share of combat experience. And don't say that "peacekeeping" doesn't count, because unless you've personally been in a peacekeeping mission, your claims are void.
So, next time you claim something, you sure as hell better back it up. It's people like you that makes me sick.
I do apologize if I derailed the thread, but I needed to get that out. This thread is sort of pointless if you ask me though. =|
Ok no offence french dude, but as soon as anything you guys get into gets tough you immidiatly fold. You haven't finished a fight since the Franks united the country. I mean come on, You folded on your alliance with cavour, you put up a hell of a fight in WW1 and 2 (sarcasm). And on and on. I mean what have you actually done in the world? Defended your borders and beg for rescue. Ohh you sent 18,00 troops in the gulf war. That really put the victory of the top. In the gulf war Iraq had the Largest army in the world. In three days the United Staits (with a little help from our friends the brits) destroyed the anti air defense network and communication network. Destroyed Iraqi tanks without one abrahms going down. Their airforce was so scared it refused to fly. 3 days, and what did you exactly do in the gulf war. Stop being such a nationalist and just admit your country is kinda a putz when it comes to warfare. And man for man US destroys france, Supirour equipment and mobile armor would destroy the french army. We have a artillery platform that can put a shel through a specific window of a house miles away. Oh yeah and explain the French American War.
BTW I know our current war In Iraq is a mess. We are not evil imperealistic americans. Most people hate Bush. We really want to get out but we got in to deep. I do support our actions in Afganastan. Though. Do not believe common European steriotipes we are not ignorant selfcentered people.Oh yeah and thanks for the Toast :D !
Oh, so we never fought hard in WWI? Is that why the second largest Allied military casualty rate was French? I suppose the Battle of Verdun never existed then? And don't say that casualties of WWI dictated how well a country fought: otherwise, you can easily say, by that logic, that Russia and Germany sucked HARD in WWI.
We never finished a war? Hmmmm, so Napoleon never existed? What about Joan of Arc? Charles de Gaulle? You apparently don't know what the Battle of Austerlitz was: it was Napoleon's finest victory. We "finished" it by effectively ending the War of the Third Coalition that day. So don't say that we've never finished a fight. I've been a history nerd for a long time, and I've read plenty of the Napoleonic Wars, therefore I can make an entire essay on how we finished our fights during that time.
By the way, it took almost 21 years for the Allies to effectively put an end to Revolutoinary France/Napoleonic France. But no, surely that's not enough for your taste?

you keep telling yr self that
I don't even need to acknowledge you anymore. You're ignorant, you're probably under 16, and you most likely know nothing about history. You're dealing with someone who's been researching history and politics for a long, long time.
I mean what have you actually done in the world?
Helped the United States gain its independence? Is that enough? The average American doesn't even know that we were a major player in your independance, let alone name 3 major battles of your Revolutoinary War.
I'm not saying we made the Gulf War a deceisive victory, but we played our part. Unfortunately, the US/British news media never covers our part in the war.
Do not believe common European steriotipes we are not ignorant selfcentered people
I'm sorry, but that's how it seems like from you. You presume to think that we've contributed nothing to military history, and that we're always crying for help. Are you basing that off of World War II? We're grateful for the Allies for liberating us. I mean that. But we don't have to kiss ass every time you Americans conduct an invasion. And you haven't heard of the uFrench Resistance or the Free French Forces have you?
It sounds like you want us to be as militarily good as the U.S. To be honest? That's not going to happen. Why would we? The U.S. is doing all the fighting, why should we? We don't want to spend that much money on our military. Instead of spending huge sums of money on tanks, aircraft carrier and missiles we're pouring it into education, infrastructure, and our economy. But we're still devoted to our role as a U.S. ally.
Stop being such a nationalist and just admit your country is kinda a putz when it comes to warfare.
I'm a nationalist because my family's military history traces all the way back to the Crusades, the most recent being in the Afghan War. If we're a "putz" to warfare, then you're basically saying that Napoleon Bonaparte never existed.
And no, I'm not that much of a blind patriot to refuse to acknowledgeWorld War II. It was indeed a pretty dark time for us. Realize, though, that is was military leadership and their incompetence that lead to ourdownfall. Our tanks were better than Germany's by the start of WWII: wehad good aircraft, artillery, and a navy unmatched only by Britian.Unfortunately, our leadership were still thinking WWI and relied on theMaginot Line to defend against Germany. Didn't exactly work out did it?
Ok first of all, last time I checked France of the Napoloenic Era does not exist anymore, What happened to It? hmm... His invasion of russia was a reckless decission that france never recovered from, eventually beig beaten back into thier borders. Yes he was succesful but he was also an impearialistic ruler who tried to astabolish an empire in a europe where Nationalism was catching on. It would have never held.
The Crusades were a great success.
Didn't france abandon Richard the Lionhart in one of them?
I did know of the French Resistance or the Free French Forces, and am proud of what they did in the midst of german supression.
And *** right I know your role in the revolutionary war. Are you kidding me, do not question my US history. . This was really more as a strike at the british in response to the Seven Years War instead of a support of a new nation though, still I apreciate your help. Look I was over the top with my comments, but france to me have not really proven them selves as a fighting force.
I know what lead to your downfall in ww2. And btw while were discussing history. WTF were they thinking with the magniot k=line. hmm last time the germans envaded thruogh belguim, hey lets build a line to defend us (wich was infirior anyways) everwhere except belguim. And despite that your and englads total disregard towards germany breaking regulations of post ww1 treaties is really what enabled them. Meanwhile at the fault of our own we over in america had entered an age in wich we wanted nothing to do with europe due to ww1.

and what the heck I never said that. Where did that come from. I like to discuss politics, history, and technology, but im no a jack***
I actually dont mind you. You have an opinion and you defend it well. most people I argue with in these forums just expect you to aknowledge that they are right. I honestl think that France is know in the finest time in its history. I do not aprove of many of the french decisions through history. Im not saying you stink as a country just that your military never has shown as a bright point to me. I think your truest legacy will lie in alternative energy. Solar towers going up, A nclear waste recycling program, and I could only wish that MY country would support more fusion research. I have stated my point. You have stated yours. And for the record I am 16 but that doesn't mean I don't know my stuff. I admit that I have family in the military and am a nationalist. (most people are.)
And BTW just wondering what is your opinion on the US ocuping pakistan if things continue to go south. I personally am tired of war, but don't want a nuclear state to fall to islamic extremist.
