If any of you rad any of the books you'd see that they do in fact go into outer space. In the First Strike, a pelican was hiding in an astroid field. There were many other instances as well. So anyone know how they do it?

The pelican you are reffering to, im pretty sure did not actually exit from a planet, but exited from a UNSC ship already in space, as there was a longsword present aswell. Ill have to check to be sure, havent read it in a while.

the pillar of autumn was on halo it had crashed and it must have been on halo to begin with because johnson was on it and he was on halo after the ship had crash landed, also the chief did not disrupt the gravity of the facility but the gravity could have be create by the centrifugal(spelling) force of the ring so they could have been on the edge and escaped that way but they did not escape the ship whilst it was in space and hide on the astriod for the few days that the chief was there also long swords are atmospheric bombers/fighters they can escape the atmosphere having little high power to weight ratio
