Ralphbne:Hey guys, HW is the first RTS game I've ever played and I enjoy it immensely. However, I am still quite crappy at it. I don't have Gold Live, so I've been playing against AI, and on automatic I got as high as 80 but am now around 65 difficulty. I win against the AI on heroic a fair bit, but nothing seems to me to be consistent, and I have no sense of when I won a particular match because of something deliberate versus just an "accident." I am certainly willing to learn, but am having a number of pretty big issues. I would also appreciate any kind of advice on how to LEARN to play this kind of game versus actual tactics or strategies to use.
1) I am having major problems controlling the behavior of individual units. For example if I have a Warthog that I command to attack something, it may move right next to the SOB while shooting at it, rather than take a more advantageous position. Any tips for doing this kind of "micromanaging"?
2) Frequently, I find that sometimes my units are dead pretty much right after I build them. I think this is a combination of two things 1) building the wrong units. I sometimes get nervous and spam infantry, even though I am being attacked by 5-10 wraiths, instead of calmly building an airbase and building hornets or building Spartans to jack their vehicles. 2) not controlling my units effectively... see above
3) Because of issue number 2, I sometimes find myself in a situation where an attack of mine has been repulsed, and now I am being attacked by the arbiter and a bunch of other units, with little to no resources. A better understanding of this situation and how to avoid it are necessary for me to improve further.
4) Any tips on effective scouting? I can see how important this is with a human player. Going onto point 1) I find that my scout, usually a warthog gets killed frequently. Any tips on effective scouting would also be great.
