Pretty sweet... Reminds me of the thropters in Dune  As for the Fan vs Jet debate, it actually makes more sense to use fans, keeps the fuel consumption down, jets drink fuel like crazy.  It's already got jets for forward movement, so using those jets to power the fans makes a lot of sense.  Just check out the new F-35.  Its VTOL, but it uses a fan, not jets like the Harrier, It works a lot better.  Easier to stabilize.
