actually it could be like assasins creed where there is DNA  memory from the ancestors.

though the other theory is that the forerunners gave us the mantle which in turn gave us access to everything that was built by the forerunners if  the humans never recieved the mantle then maybe the things built by them would not have belonged to us.

though the forerunners saw something in the human race to entrust the mantle to them

 

i think the forerunners had a way to detect if a species has extreme potential, which is why humans got it over any of the covenant species. They could tell, genetically, that a species has limited potential or not. Which in my opinion, is why the grunts or elites or any other species didnt get it, the foreruners could tell from their gentics that they would likley have limited potential.

Im really interested in 3 things in the halo verse

#1 what do the forerunners look like?

#2 what do the precursors look like and WTF happened to them?

#3 What is the real origin of the flood? are they completely natural? or are they some experiment gone horribly wrong? Did some other species create them and realize their deadliness and just drop them off on the small planet the forerunners found them on? or did they actually evolve there? The terminals talk about a fully functioning ecosystem without any fauna. Which is strange because that means they fit in with the environment, hinting that that may actually be their true origin and that they really are completely natural.

The Flood are extra-galactic "hence the fact that they might and its highly likely they evolved on a different planet.  The terminal Do talk about a fully function ecosystem without any fauna,  Now do you remember the Level Cortana in Halo 3, The Flood could have done that in that planet, no need of fauna and yet its a fully working ecosystem where each flood sub-species has a work to do.  They could have just infected the WHOLE planet and the Forerunners not knowing would have thought that was the planet's ecosystem instead of realizing it was a flood hive.
