VaultingFrog: Emel: The Covenant would have discovered some tech by themselves. And no, humans are not Forerunners. You are basing an assumption one shred of evidence, which does not support your theory at all. Because I just criticized you about that, I will now place some evidence as to why humans are not Forerunners.
1. Humans were discovered by the Librarian when she went to Earth. Kind of odd that humanity would discover itslef?
2. Earth was obviously outside of Forerunner controlled space (at least it was towards the end of the Flood-Forerunner War), so if Earth was outisde of their controlled space it seems logical to assume that the Forerunners are not from Earth. And since humans are from Earth...
3. The Librarian remarks that she 'knew this place [earth] would be special because of them [humans]'. Forerunners wouldn't say a place is special because they were there. Unless they thought they were a Master Race, and were extremely egotistical.
All of which are good point however there are some things that can be explained with out humans being directly Forerunners.
1: Humans and Forerunners could very well have shared similar physiology and a close enough DNA sequence to interbreed. This would allow Forerunner genes to be passed on to a race that had a much higher survival possability. It doesnt mean that every human would be Forerunner but they have the possability to have the Forerunner genes.
...It seems more likely that the Forerunners passed on their 'Mantle' to humans, which had been passed on to them by the Precursors...I doubt that Forerunners would breed with humans...
VaultingFrog: 2: The Forerunner experimented on the human race with gene theropy. They inject some of their genes into human genes to see what happens. Perhaps this is why we evolved the way we did. But thats a different matter. Again it doesnt make every human a Forerunner. Not even close in that regaurd.
...seems possible...but not plausible...the Forerunners were in the middle of disarming the entire galaxy when they discovered the Flood...if they were doing this to protect the galaxy...they would not have been 'experimenting' on a race...
VaultingFrog: Both of these ideas can explain the spesific genetic pattern that Dr. Cathrine Halsey was looking for when first selecting the group of Spartan-IIs. It also can explain why the humans (in spesific Spartan-IIs and IIIs) are able to use or examine Forerunner symbols and technology and instinctively use it with out knowing its operations beforehand.
These ideas also cover the Luminations that the Covenant ships detect when dealing with humans. They show up as a very spesific symbol and the Forerunner genes in their blood is more then reason enough for that to happen.
Think of it this way, I am part German. I am only 1% German but that 1% is still there. It doesnt make me a pure breed German what so ever but the "race" is still there.
A Spartan-II could be 0.5% Forerunner. That makes them both Forerunner and human. The downside is the human side is dominant.

Humans are 'Reclaimers'. What exactly this honorific term means is entirely up for debate, but the Prophets feared that once the Covenant learned of the existance of these 'Reclaimers' they would splinter apart, and so the Prophets ordered the mass genocide of humanity, so they wouldn't loose power.
VaultingFrog: Yes and no.
The Prophets interpreted the glyphs and descovered that the human race was the remains of their "gods". If the Covenant had learnd that some of their "gods" had been left behind then that ment that everything was a lie. They werent all powerful. They were finite, mortal and imperfect. They couldnt be gods. This descovery would destroy the foundations of a religion that worshiped them as gods.
Finding out that what you worshiped isnt devine at all would destroy everything you had built your life around.
By claming the humans as heritics and the markings were declaring them so they could save their Covenant. That is why they went to war.
...They went to war to preserve their power...The 'Noble' Prophets of Truth and Mercy could have cared less about the Covenant...they split it apart...they cared about the power the Covenant gave them...so, they preserved it...in order to keep its power...
