Archangel I am dissapointed. You are thinking to narrowly. Yes the human race was descovered by the Forerunners, not started by them, however you neglect to factor in the Forerunners ability to experiment.

A race doesnt need to be created by another to have similar traits or genes. All it needs is the input of the desired genes from one of several sources. Of which I have listed two.
