Why do Hunters appear in Halo Wars?

In Fall of Reach Master Chief discovers the Hunters for the first time during an engagement along with Blue Team, doesn't he? Otherwise he wouldn't be so suprised and scared.

Correct me if I'm wrong....Fall of Reach takes place long after this game...

That was just the first time THE CHIEF encountred the Hunters ot the UNSC
