Chapter Three: Truth be Told
Prologue
Human Colony
Faear IV
10:25
Rain clouds
blotted out the sun on an otherwise usual day. A short man draped in a dark
cloak swept down the streets of Vern. His arms stretched out with a metal
canister tucked under each one, he rushed down an alley as rain started to
fall. Another man stood there, taller and with a black jacket. The taller man
started laughing.
"Nice of
you to be on time for once," He shifted his weight and eyed the package. "Did
you bring it with you?"
"Yes, yes,
just like I planned, we can get this over with here and now. Just the thought
of this thing gives me shivers." The shorter man shook for emphasis.
"I told you
before, don't carry these things around packed so loosely." He grabbed the
canister and set it gingerly on the ground. "Just one of these things has the potential
to destroy planets."
"Yes, I
know. It's frozen, Carormo, it's not going anywhere."
Carormo
gasped and almost hit the man. "Never use our names in public, the UNSC have
ears everywhere Baur, its bad luck."
Baur
smiled, "Now you're doing it. Let's just get this over with. Do you have the
money or not?"
"Not," An
evil grin spread across Carormo's face.
"But we had
an agreement..."
"Yes, we
did, and now you are no use to me." A flash of silver shone as the man pulled a
pistol to Baur's head.
Baur gasped
and stared up at the barrel of the gun. "You... you backstabbing..." The shot
echoed in the ally and was then drown out by thunder. Carormo holstered the
pistol and lifted the canister.
"You,
however, I have big plans for." He laughed and strode out of the ally into a
waiting sedan.
