I think those shield door things are upgrades. The covie base starts with a shield covering it, while you maybe able to upgrade these doors to put around your base. Appearantly only infanty can only base through unless the door is destoryed. Or, they could already be set on key points on the maps, such as by sentinal shops or by those infintite supply tower thingys that you can capture.
