Mr. sprinkles:Perhaps it's because giving more to the fans induces mass hysteria and noob bashing about everything I.E.:The last few months on the forums.
If that's the case, then they and you are ignoring the way things have gone on this forum.
Remember the Cyclops fiasco? When news of the Cyclops broke, everyone was going wild because we had a PWNZER mech running around punching buildings, a straight ripoff from AoM. Thunder came on and 'clarified' the Cyclop's role, and the forum quieted down. Until we found out that it really was a PWNZER mech running around punching stuff, looking like an obese Spartan and pulling off ninja moves.
Now, how does this translate to today? We've got video clips of units sitting around blowing the crap out of each other, but we don't know much about the gameplay, or the game mechanics. If they'd so much as talk about this (How the Wraith fires, how they've been tinkering around with damage mechanics, and so on) then maybe the forums would quiet down. We wouldn't be inferring everything from videos, but from actual info from the game.
Blizzard does this. ES isn't. There's room for improvement.
Mr. sprinkles:and Perhaps they are hoping for most of the fans buying it "Blindly" to make most money and that in itself will weed out the influx of noobs and small children in MP?
I hardly see how this will happen. People will buy it because it has Halo in the name. Serious RTS fans won't be impressed by the dearth of info on the game.
Mr. sprinkles: In no way does this mean that the game will be bad, quite the contrary. When they give us media we ***** and complain about every small detail, usually without second thought. Maybe they don't listen to us anymore because of this?
If we have questions about media with StarCraft II or WoW, Blizzard has probably already answered them. This is an opportunity for ES to interface with it's fans and make them even more loyal, but nyet!
Mr. sprinkles: Would you blame a game company for wanting the majority of the community being the real fans and not random noobs?
The people raising questions aren't noobs. They are fans raising serious questions.
MonkeyPunch:Even though I don't usually agree with
rasq (sorry man) I have to say, I agree with him on that. They're a
massive company, and companies don't become that successful keeping
everyone happy all the time.
They don't have to keep us
all happy. They should keep us informed, and that should keep us in
line. But the community service around here is... lacking, if
improving.
MonkeyPunch:But as far as the halo lore
is concerned, its not real, its fiction. therefore, for as long as the
game concept is around it'll continue to be tinkered with so that halo
lore is tailored to the developers needs.
Lore and story
are what keep fans interested. The lore of video games falls into the
lore of books and movies. The less 'tailoring' is done, the greater the
integrity of the franchise, the better thefanbase, the more products they ship out.
MonkeyPunch:thus, the sad reality of the business empire.
Thus, the sad reality of an outdated and decadent business plan.
