Just so everyone will stop quoting Spark i'm going to tell you another way that it could be interpreted. The Forerunners could have shapped us into what we are today from the apelike people we were. Then we would be a Forerunner creation, still be Forerunner and fit into Sparks statement, and the "potential" they saw could have been referring to potential genetic shaping. This is not my opinion, it is just to show everyone that there are multiple angles to everything, even direct quotes.
