Now we know why Halogen was cancelled...

It seemed to take a while for that to happen, though even if there wasn't a real Halo RTS it probably would have anyways, but it makes sense that they finally did it a few weeks before XO6. More on Halogen.

The only thing I see wrong with the way they did it, was they should have canceled those poor peoples rts a long time ago.  It was a bit much they let them put so much work into it before they canceled it.

Halo Gen shouldn't been cancelled, MS wanted to be the only kid on the block with a Halo RTS game. They should of let Halo Gen continue productions because a MOD for Generals: Zero Hour and it was for PC, not 360.

well considering MS owns the rights to halo...that kind of means that they get to be the only kid on the block with a halo game.

stopping halo gen didnt show they wanted to be the only halo game makes, buying the rights way back when did.

Microsoft don't like competition; you should know that by now..

Competition? Halogen wasn't a competing game. It was a simple little mod. It wasn't even for the same hardware. Competition was imagined here.

I guess that maybe Microsoft didn't want any confusion between Halo RTS's or something like that, but still, I agree that it was a hard to let those guys carry on making it and then cancel it after it was nearly ready. Still, from what I gather the halogen team are going to just use all their original assets for a new mod, so all is not lost.

Not surprising at all. Too bad for those guys - but great for those of us who have wanted a Halo RTS all along. It'll be interesting to see how they do it for the 360 (I want changes to the gameplay, not just changes to the control mechanics)

Harsh indeed.  However, if they had cancelled it long ago then they would've been bugged 24/7 by rumours about a Halo RTS, which could have spolit some of the climax of the Halo 3 trailer at E3.  It's still harsh though.

changes in the gameplay compared to what? the other halo RTS that isn't out.

I would like the standard RTS gameplay with a halo theme, its the safe bet. once you start changing gameplay, you can start making mistakes.

Re: Now we know why Halogen was cancelled...

Be serious - you can't possibly expect any game company (or non-game company, for that matter) to allow someone to use your intellectual property to create something the directly competes with you. And before you say that it's PC or it doesn't compete because it's free, things don't have to make money themselves to impact the sales of a similar product.

We're talking about HALO here. Not all RTS games...not even all sci-fi RTS games. There is simply no way anyone has the right to make a Halo based game without Bungie's (Microsoft's) permission. And there's no way a responsible company would allow it, especially when it could impact their own sales.

Reason HaloGen Had to Cease and Desist?

I was wondering if this was the main reason HaloGen got a 'cease and desist' notification, I mean would they be able to do it if this game didn't come out? I understand that Halo is Microsoft's IP.
