It has been said many times that the ending of Halo Wars sets us up (the gamer) nicely for a sequal. Well, I personaly find this to be true and un-true but only time will tell what happens with this game.
After doing some thinking about what Halo Wars 2 could have in store for us in terms of new content, I thought of something that seems highly logical. Apart from perhaps a map editor, and an increased population cap, new units, etc. I believe space battles are an obvious choice for an addition in Halo Wars 2.
You know how in Halo Wars, how the Covenant have leaders and the UNSC has economic and unit bonuses? Well, it would fit perfectly in the storyline if this was the opposite case in Halo Wars 2. Allow me to elaborate...
Many Halo Wars fans have read the Halo books. This makes sense because some of us are interested in the storyline. That said, those of us who have read the books know that the Covenant have a distinct advantage in space combat with numbers and better technology.
Well, what if the UNSC has leaders to choose from such as Captain Keyes? Admiral Cole? Commander Keyes? Each has their own leader power of some sort. Admiral Cole could have a MAC volley or something, I don't know.
That's just a theory that seems to fit with the storyline pretty well. And once again, it's a theory. I don't even know if there will be a Halo Wars 2.
*Edit*
Another idea came to me. Instead (or in addition to) leader powers, they could have certain ships they use. Admiral Cole has the Leviathan, Captain Keyes could have the Pillar of Autumn (spelling?) and of course, Commander Keyes has the Forward unto Dawn (I think that's the name...) Hell, the Spirit of Fire could make a nice return with the great Captain Cutter.
Also, I am NOT saying that Halo Wars 2 should be just space battles. Star Wars: Empire at War had both space and land battles.
Frozensword:The 100% complete achievement says "ready for a sequel?"...hint.
Thank you for bringing that up so that I can prove how wrong you are. "Ready for the sequel" simply means that, and only that, you are "ready for the sequel". It does not say "Thank you for completing the game, here's what we have planned for Halo Wars 2." Completing the game means that you have nothing more to do than to wait for the sequel. Nowhere in, at, above, near, around, through, or under the achievement does it say "Robot is making a Halo Wars 2." Every company leaves the door open for a second game,(even Bungie who swore Halo 3 was the last of the trilogy) because a second game = ++ $.
Was it good for you too?
They could develop the second game to be based around the actions of Major Silva and Lt. McKay (from the book Halo: The Flood). This way they could incorporate Keyes, and maybe even the AI Wellsey. Zivvo: Hot Glue: Zivvo:They could develop the second game to be based around the actions of Major Silva and Lt. McKay (from the book Halo: The Flood). This way they could incorporate Keyes, and maybe even the AI Wellsey. i was hoping tht the game was based around "the flood" i loved how they had to hold off the covies from alpha base and then they had their attack on the T&R(truth and reconciliation) plus the master chief side story where the chief is like forge but with no hog leaders as follows unsc---mckay, keyes, MC Covenant---minor prophet, the elite(forgot his name) and maybe just maybe, Guilty could be a leader with the sentinel army now tht would make for an excellent game thank you Hot Glue Yeah, thats what I'm talking about. I also like the idea of having Wellsey as a leader aswell, rather than having a special unit, he has all construction/training times cut by 25%?? Only problem is, I think this plot line may have been included in Stuart Beatties script ideas for the second Halo film: Rise of the Flood. SPOILER: Especially the scene where McKays sacrifices all the marines to take out the T&R. Would be an epic scene in a film! Especially jenkins bless him. I love Halo Wars. Halo Wars actually got me into halo again. I want a sequel because I have some questions on the story line for Halo CE.
The UNSC should ahve leaders too. If you can control Forge in the campaign, why not on live?
The covenant leaders shouldn't be as strong either. I get rushed every game and my friend and I have dropped from 32 to a crappy 22 in 2v2 because of the Arbiter and/or the Brute.
I agree that Halo Wars 2 should have both space and land battles like Star Wars EaW. It only makes sense seing as they more or less mastered the ground battles. If they made a sequel then they could just use everything from the first one without creating new units and starting from scratch, after all why fix something that's not broken?
They should have some kind of galactic map like EaW (but mabye in regions of solar systems rather than planets). There are tonns of colonies mentioned in the Halo universe so naming them wouldn't be a problem. They would have to come up with a few more planets for the Covenant though. Accepting the premis that they use all the content from the first game, allows them to spend more time developing the space units and the maps. I'm thinking of one map per world, with each one orientated towards Covenant or UNSC structures on the surface. They could mabye make two versions of each map, one thats fresh and new with whole buildings and one that is blown to hell full of rubble and debris, to simulate that the planet has already been attacked by the enemy once before. Also, some planets could be relinqueries for the Covenant to find when they attack the colony, so they could upgrade their technology. Some planets could be shield worlds like Onyx, where the Covenant could get massive technological advantages. Each faction could have a Homeworld and a Fortress world ( UNSC, FORTRESS = Reach, HOMEWORLD = Earth, and the Covenant, FORTRESS = Senghelios, HOMEWORLD = High Charity.) Fortress worlds could have two maps, one is a city and the other a heavily armed stronghold. Homweorlds could have three maps. Two cities and a special location. E.G. for Earth it could be, UNSC HQ at Sydney and then New Mombassa, and finally new Mombassa ruins to discover the Ark.
They could do the space arrangement the way it was in Star Wars Supremacy, where each ship has a capacity for a certain number of units and equipment. The equipment could be things like deployable cover E.G. the fixed cover in Halo Wars like the Covenant platform of a shade turret etc. The UNSC would have an advantage over the Covenant because they could use pelicans and albatross' to land troops and equipment, whereas the Covenant could only land troops with the Spirits and Phantoms and would have to deploy a gravity lift to drop Wraiths and Scarabs etc.
Each faction should have heros. For example.
UNSC = Sgt. Forge
Sgt. Johnson
Spartan 117
Commander Keyes
Captain Keyes
Captain Cutter
Rear Admiral Stanforth
Vice Admiral Whitcome
Vice Admiral Mawikizi
Vice Admiral Cole
Vice Admiral Jeromi
Fleet Admiral Hood
Fleet Admiral Harper
Doctor Halsey
Proffessor Anders
Colonel Ackerson
Covenant = High Prophet of Truth
High Prophet of Regret
High Prophet of Mercy
Prophet of Objection
Prophet of Peace
Prophet of Pity
Prophet of Candor
Prophet of Reconciliation
Prophet of Supposition
Supreme Commander
The Arbiter
Imperial Admiral Xytan
Rtas 'Vadum
Zuka Zamamee
Chieftain Maccabeus
Chieftain Tartarus
All of the heros should have a unique ground unit but some could use the same model. e.g the prophets and the admirals use the same models.
There should be a lot of heros because there should be a lot of systems in the galaxy map.
The space battles should be considerably easier to create than the ground battles were in the first Halo Wars, because there will be next to no environment and few animations from the ships other than engines, weapons and shields.
The Halo installations and the Ark could be included, each installation run by a forerunner AI and controlled by many sentinels and flood. Perhaps there could even be planets that are exclusively flood controlled that have nothing to do with the forerunner artifacts.
I think this would make a really great strategy game because it would make the possibilities for play almost endless. As apposed to having very little to do after you finnish the campaign in Halo Wars.
Let me explain why most of these ideas are BAD ideas.
1: Space battles would ruin the canon. The UNSC have to have much greater numbers in the books to win against covenant ships. Odds like 30:10 or so. Making the UNSC and Covenant balenced would be a contrdiction of the canon. Even if they allowed the UNSC to have more units that are cheaper it still screws with the canon. The UNSC has only won a few space battles against the covenant.
2: Making either the Flood or the Forerunner playable again ruins the canon. The forerunner have mysteriously disappeared and all that remains of them is structures, the halo instalations and setinals. Having them come back is like revealing that Master Cheif was really an elite the entire time. The same goes for the flood, the flood are all controlled by the gravemind and are all allied. Having Red team flood vs Blue team flood contradicts that. ( The UNSC has fought off rebel humans and the Covenant had the civil war in Halo 2 - Halo 3 making it alright for them.) Also, mind telling me what Flood specific vehicles and aircraft we would be seeing? All they can do is absorb lifeforms.
3: The idea of a "Galactic takeover" mode would, yet again, be throwing the canon out the window. The UNSC is losing the war, badly. The idea that they could put in a mode where you could take over the Elite homeworld is like a slap in the face to the Halo universe.
1. Space battles would require that there be more UNSC ships and that they be cheaper, but the Covenant ships would be more powerful and, as for their size, would be larger thus evening the fight a little. The whole point is however that the Covenant are supposed to be overpowered in space, that's how they destroy the colonies. This is balanced out by the fact that the UNSC cream them in ground battles. And although in the storyline the Covenant get over this by glassing the planets from orbit, in Halo Wars 2 certain planets could be relinqueries, which the Covenant have to capture. How about having relinquery points for the Covenant faction, which allow them to uncover the location of more UNSC colonies and thus furthering their advance and encouraging ground battles. The goals of the Covenant could be to activate a Halo installation (protected by the unplayable forerunner faction with sentinels and an AI like Guilty Spark), with at least one high prophet surviving. This could give the UNSC oportunities to win if there were two Halos and the Ark. If the ark or the Halos had to be activated by a high prophet landing in the system then that would balance the goals out. For ordinary relinqueries the Covenant would have to use minor prophets and risk their leaders to further the conquest. Also, there should be way more UNSC colonies than Covenant, that would make gameplay for the UNSC more balanced in terms of resources but it would also spread their fleet thin and make it more realistic for the Covenants skirmishes.
2. I agree entirely that if there was a Galactic mode then the only playable factions should be the UNSC and the Covenant. However I think that perhaps the flood should be available in multiplayer. The option should be given whether or not to be in keeping with the storyline. However, the forerunners would have to remain as they were in Halo Wars where they could only be purchaced by capturing their structures, simply because they don't have enough units available and it would be pointless to create new ones simply for the mutiplayer.
3. The 'Galactic Takeover Mode' would work fine. The UNSC would have to have far more colonies than the Covenant. At the start if both factions had limited tactical data on each other then it would force border skirmishes to further their goals. As I mentioned earlier some of the UNSC colonies could be relinqueries. This fact could be revealed only after the Covenant had captured the planet via ground assault. It would force the Covenant faction to invade rather than destroy and risk losing relinqueries. As for taking over the elite homeworld...why not. How else are the UNSC supposed to win? The whole point of RTS games is to take the battle into your own hands, perhaps besting a foe that, in the storyline was victorious over you. The point is, with these game mode you make your own storylines in the preset universe. There could be another mode where you play specific UNSC battle groups that are tasked with certain missions and will follow the storyline.
I'd like to see the story set around an actual halo ring. I think they should completely recast seeing the ending of halo wars. It seems with halo:reach thats already being covered and so is earth battles with ODST. Does anyone know if theres a possible story line after Halo 3? There could be a whole faction of the covenant who may want to destroy humanity still? Then through the story line could have the covenant in the campaign missions. Sure there would be no flood but they could make technological advancements leading to new techs and would make lots of sense to the story line etc etc? Sequels generally do come after the events of the first installmane too. Anyone think this might be a good way to go? Here's what factions I think should be in Halo Wars 2.
FACTIONS IN GALACTIC MODE : - UNSC (Playable faction from start of game)
- Independent Colonies (Non-Playable emerging faction)
- Insurrectionists (Non-Playable faction from start of game)
- Covenant Loyalists (Playable faction from start of game)
- Covenant Rebels (Non-Playable emerging faction) <only Playable in specific timeline-orientated campaigns>
- Heretics (Non-Playable faction from start of game)
- The Flood (Non-Playable faction from start of game)
- Forerunners (Non-Playable faction from start of game)
FACTIONS IN MULTIPLAYER MODE : - Covenant
- UNSC
- The Flood
- Insurrectionists
- Heretics

The Spartan IIs are divided into groups of 3 Spartans per unit and a varying number units per team. In ground battles each Spartan II will be deployed in units and moved individually like in the Halo Wars campaign and each team will have a different colour of stripe on the model of each Spartan II (with mjolnir armour), with the exception of Gray Team which will have fully gray armour. Unlike Halo Wars they will NOT be knocked out and able to get up again, they will just die. The Spartan IIs have the 'Hijack' special ability.
Ideas for Spartan IIs : < Blue Team > Alpha Unit = John-117, Samuel-034, Kelly-087
Beta Unit = William-043, Linda-058, Keiichi-047
Gamma Unit = Fhajad-084, Maria-062, James-003
Delta Unit = Randall-072, Cassandra-014, Mike-068
< Red Team > Alpha Unit = Frederic-104, Li-008, Joshua-029
Beta Unit = Vinh-030, Isaac-039, Anton-044
Gamma Unit = Malcolm-059, Grace-093, Kirk-097
Delta Unit = Jerome-092, Alice-103, Douglas-042
< Green Team > Alpha Unit = Kurt-051, Sheila-106, Tom-017
Beta Unit = Gary-099, Rene-124, Thai-005
< Gray Team > Alpha Unit = Jai-006, Adriana-111, Mike-075
(I used a few made up names, but other than that all 33 Spartan IIs that survived for the battle against the Covenant are here.)
The Spartan IIIs use SPI armour and have the 'Camoflage' special ability. (All unit models are the same) They only become available to the UNSC faction after a certain amount of gametime. There are 3 companies, each made up of a varying number of teams. They are deployed in fixed teams of 5 with no particular names like the Spartan IIs.
Ideas for Spartan III's : < Alpha Company > Team Wolf Pack
< Beta Company > Team Echo
Team Foxtrot
Team India
Team Lima
Team X-Ray
Team Romeo
< Gamma Company > Team Gladius
Team Katana
Team Saber
(Unlike the Spartan IIs, who start off already recruited and positioned on UNSC planets, the Spartan IIs have to be recruited on Onxy at a reasonable cost.)
All done. Personally I think a space-based game would suck. I'd much rather them just put more content into the 'land battles' .
