How do you clean a disc?

Sometimes when I pop in HW, the disc refuses to load, and I have to keep trying to blow on it like it's a friggin SNES cartridge. Eventually it loads, but I recently discovered a new problem. My disc suddenly has trouble loading The Docks and Tundra. It's not like a 100% chance it will fail, but more like 25% but it is EXTREMELY annoying. Especially if I have to leave a 2v1 for my teammate or I lose half a 1v1 trueskill because I happened to disconnect against a recruit.I even had a chance to play  proom 13 on my smurf, but I went unreadable =(.

So anyway how do you clean a disc?

    Buy a disc cleaner.

EDIT:  Or if you're really ambitious, you can use a dremel tool and buff it yourself.  But try it on a test disc first, if you leave it in one spot for too long you'll melt the plastic, and then you're really ****ed.  Honestly, though, I've gotten games to work by doing this.

If there are any Game Crazy stores wherever you live, they buff discs for a buck or two.

Re: How do you clean a disc?

Blowing on it isn't going to do anything for it...Unless it's actually dusty...YTF would it be dusty??!!

Install the game to your Hard Drive; that usually fixes the problem concerning disc unreadable errors...that is assuming that you can completely install it without getting a disc unreadable error.

Second option, go to BlockBuster, rent a copy for $7, and when you return it, return your crapped-out copy and keep the working one.

If it has any scratches on your disc, consider it screwed, and buy a new disc.

    AHT: I hope you're joking.

I don't think I have a single unscratched disc, most of them work fine. All of my problems are with the Xbox.

pizza: You may also want to try cleaning the laser of your Xbox. If there's something wrong with the laser, it's the same end effect as if there's something wrong with the disc, so that's probably worth a try, especially if you're also having problems with other games.

Re: How do you clean a disc?

You can take it to Joe's Records and have the bottom layer of the disc removed.

Steal...? Not at all. A small percentage of the overall rental fees are used as an allowance for ruined/scratched games or movies. Seeing as how you rented the game, you are just making them use that replacement allowance. No theft what-so-ever.

It's like emulators.  If you own the game, you can download the ROM.

Re: How do you clean a disc?

Your renting a disk of them and then returning YOUR disk which you KNOW to be scratched; im sure you dont tell the shop: "you have an allowance for scratched games so im renting your one but returning my one"
