The point I was making, was that most of the time, that's not defending your country, it's attacking another one, although there are exceptions to this (e.g. if your attacking a country because it's a threat, that's a form of defense, although things get complicated there, so I was ignoring it). When it comes to actual defense, the Navy's really the front line.

Too bad there is no UNSC army in Halo, Navy is still around though :D

I agree with bass. There's nothing racist about saying Jap, it's just a shortened version of Japanese.

That's like saying that calling someone an Aussie is racist. It's just... not. 

While the term Jap originally started out as simply a shortened version Japanese, after WWII many Japanese felt the term was offensive and derogatory. Therefore, you shouldn't use it.
