I don't know how it works in the US, but in Australia the Navy you know, defends our country before the enemy can even get to where the army can fight them.

Just saying. They have to get past the navy before they can take on the army, unless the army is attacking them, in which case it's sort of not defending your country so much as attacking another.

I agree with bass. There's nothing racist about saying Jap, it's just a shortened version of Japanese.

That's like saying that calling someone an Aussie is racist. It's just... not.

I wasn't referring to FT Hood as a low blow I was trying to express sincerity and to see if you actually were Army and not some kid who thinks he is a big shot.  Half the people who say they are in the military don't know a thing I reference about to check.  And now you force me to say Go Navy, Beat Army.

We don't get CNN.

The point I was making, was that most of the time, that's not defending your country, it's attacking another one, although there are exceptions to this (e.g. if your attacking a country because it's a threat, that's a form of defense, although things get complicated there, so I was ignoring it). When it comes to actual defense, the Navy's really the front line.
