    Not trying to spam, but I wanted to get the information visible so I made a separate thread.  Everyone wants the hunters to get a buff, but they are really fine against all the vehicles except UNSC tanks.  Instead of making hunters more powerful, I wanted to promote a discussion of addressing canister shell ability instead. 

     

    Until yesterday with new updated unit data (specifically the grizzly canister shell at 3900 with a 1.4 explosive modifier vs hunters with HP of 4695), I had no idea that a grizzly could definitively one-shot kill a fully upgraded hunter.  I sensed that hunters against grizzlies wasn't working like a hard counter should work, but I didn't understand why until I saw the numbers.

    Grunts do not counter air. maybe if they went head to head but in a real game situation micro > soft counter system

    Assuming that it does, Grunts get the most impressive damage/HP increase of any unit.  They go from 4 grunts dealing 9 DPS to 7 grunts dealing 27 DPS.  They also end up dealing something like 602 DPS to air by the end, which is pretty ridiculous given that they cost less than a Vampire, but outdamage it anyways.

    Try it if you like, but there's no way in hell that 2-3 Grunts will outdamage a Vampire at the same upgrade level.

    And even if they did, their almost nonexistent movement speed makes it near impossible to chase the air units.  At least Wolverines move 3 times faster.

    While this might not make grunts COMPLETELY useless since their building damage still sucks at higher upgrades, maybe the covenant can now effectively counter all 3 mainline units with one building, much like the UNSC vehicles. 

    Using only a VD against Covenant just doesn't cut it. Covenant can counter all of its units quite easily (and vise versa). A Barracks is necessary in most cases.

    covenant have no way of countering the vehicle depot well enough. hunters are fail units and will not even stop a tank spam.

    Perhaps I'm just not microing my Canister shell Scorpions (I am rarely ever able to get Power Turret in 1v1) well enough, but Hunters counter them just fine.

    Cerambycidae:Peons only adds 1 grunt to a squad.  That was a typo in manual for 2 grunts.  Try it in game and it goes from 1 elite + 3 grunt to 1 elite + 4 grunts.  Grunts currently max out at 164 damage to air.  If they fix the bug, they will max out at 429 (approximately same as a ghost) only against air.  They would never replace a vampire for dedicated AA as it has stasis.

    Ah, I thought it started out with 1 Elite plus 4 Grunts.  I don't play covenant much, and its not like anyone uses grunts ever anyways.

    8.8*1.35*1.45*1.55*3*5=400 DPS vs. Aircraft for the Grunts, including the Peon and Deacon grunts.

    I sometimes use them when I rush in Arby Mirrors, it soaks up rage money like Marines do for UNSC.  Good to mix in with my SG's.
