LOREWISE GUYS, NOT GAMEPLAY
I'm not talking about the general idea of an Assault Rifle--I'm talking about the ingame Assault Rifle.
There is literally, no reason at all for this weapon logically. Let's take a look shall we?
Battle Rifle
Range - Medium/Short
Penetration - High
Rate of Fire - Triple Burst
Attatchments - Scope
Size - Medium
Clip Size - 36 Rounds
SMG (Submachine Gun)
Range - Short
Penetration - Moderate
Rate of Fire - Full Automatic
Attatchments - Ironsight (Not used in-game, but canon-wise it's there and would be used)
Size - Compact/Small
Clip Size - 60 Rounds
Now, for the Assault Rifle.
Assault Rifle
Range - Short
Penetration - Moderate
Rate of Fire - Full Automatic
Attatchments - None
Size - Medium
Clip Size - 32
So tell me. What does the Assault Rifle provide that an SMG and the Battle Rifle don't already do much better? Medium Range and Penetration is vastly outdone by the Battle Rifle. However, one might argue in ridiculously close range that the Assault Rifle will beat the BR. However, as seen, the SMG has TWICE the ammo per clip than an Assault Rifle AND double the firing speed as shown in-game.
That means it can do double the penetration just as fast as an Assault Rifle, from the same range. Not to mention it weighs substantially less and is much more compact than the Assault Rifle. Not to mention with the iron sights, it can also be fired from the shoulder and accurately at that.
So tell me, what plus does an assault rifle hold that an SMG or Battle Rifle does not already?
