    Re: New Rule on "Leaving."

Aloy: Wow. Not only do you make this awesome thread, you make one post with more information than we've seen in ages. This is great. Thanks. Just thanks.

People quoting lyrics to national anthems to be patriotic:

    Yeah, well

    "Traveling in a fried-out combie

On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
    And she said,

"Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
    And he said,

"I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Lying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"
    And he said,

"Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?

You better run, you better take cover."

I so wish that was our national anthem. So much better than the real one.

You probably should have made this as a sticky in the "All Things Multiplayer" section of the forums.

Everyone who has posted saying they are leaving has done so in the multiplayer section and most of them don't come into the general sections forum and read this.

    Re: New Rule on "Leaving."

Aloysius is a very good community manger, if any of you played cnc 3 tibwars for 360 you would know that, (we never got any support for the game, not even a patch for the glitch that allows you to take over enemy buildings from across the map).  But like he said he can't really do anything about the title update he just reports the problem to the programmers and it hopefully gets dealt with.  And he did give out lots of free codes which was pretty nice. (i got the maps from that). And he does occasionally give us stat info, like that thing with the supply pads and other stuff.
Anyway thank you for finally dealing with those stupid "I am leaving posts" by more or less saying "get out".

Aloysius i have 2 questions though, do you play this game? and what are the rest of the modifiers for the supply pads?

    Re: New Rule on "Leaving."

Aloysius:I'll go ahead and respond to this.

There isn't much we can do about boosting. Playing legitimate matchmade games is playing legitimate matchmade games. We can't take a microscope to all 30,000+ games played every day. I don't delete 99% of the posts about boosters, I delete the 1% where they devolve into profanity and flaming and are against the code of conduct.

WHY CANT YOU DO IT WHEN WE POINT THE BOOSTERS OUT IN PLAIN DAYLIGHT

Title Updates on consoles are a very complicated thing, a lot more goes in to it than "someone on the forum named "Xx_WeedPot420Goku_xX thinks Grunts need a buff, let's get a patch out today!" There are business decisions well above my head that go in to it, but I report all of the glitches you guys report, we test them out and put them in our bug database. The people who make balance decisions have ideas of what they're going to do and when the decisions are made and finalized for a patch I can announce it, but not before. Saying "Oh we're thinking about maybe patching" and then not patching would be a really bad idea. You guys would go nuts. I announce things as soon as I can legitimately say what is going to be in the patch, and when it's going to come out. We have to work with Xbox Live on timing of actual patch rollout, and sometimes they don't give us a lot of lead time. We're working on that, but there's not a lot we can do.

I THINK WHEN PEOPLE LIKE IECHOIC, PRINCE, OR THE MEATSHIELD POST BALANCE IDEAS THEY SHOULD SERIOUSLY BE CONSIDERED YOUR GETTING HELP FROM THE TOP PLAYERS WHO MOST LICKELY KNOW HOW TO BALANCE THE GAME THE BEST

Glitches are looked at, every one that is reported on the forums is investigated. It's just we're not going to redo the entire pathing/combat/build system because the Arbiter gets stuck once every 500 games while raging over mountains. We know about that glitch, trust us.

     YOUR RIGHT HERE

I disagree with your assessment that I haven't supported the Community one bit. I've given out hundreds of DLC Codes for Flaming Warthogs, Honor Guard Wraiths and both DLC. I've started up the Dev Blogs and the Skirmish Map pages so the community could better see what went into making Halo Wars. Everyone wanted to know more about why we didn't have a free build system, so I got the Lead Designer to write a Dev Blog on why. We had a play with Devs night that went over pretty well. I answer as many questions as I can for the Fan Fic writers over in the Halo-Verse.

WE LIKED THE CODES THAT WAS VERY NICE. AS FOR THE SKRIMISH MAP DETALS AND WHAT NOT WE WOULD RATHER YOUR RESOURCES GO INTO OTHER THINGS.

Unit Stats are coming out this late because the designers didn't want people to theorycraft early on after release. Also they are significantly more complicated than I originally imagined, and took me quite a bit of time and effort to get them to where they are now.

CAN WE AT LEAST GET A TIME ESTIMATE.

In all of this, don't forget that the company that made the game, Ensemble Studios, was told it was closing 6 months before the release of the game. This had an impact on everything, including post-ship support.

Obviously you're unhappy, you talk about it in every recent post. I know the UAE doesn't have support for Xbox Live and that is negatively impacting your experience, but Halo Wars and Robot Entertainment can't do anything about it.

    AGREED

So yes, I understand your frustration, but you are way off base with your second to last paragraph.

edit: I know I"m going to get a bunch of questions on this so I'll clarify. The decision to make and announce patches is way above my head. There are business decisions, and PR decisions for not announcing stuff until we're 100% sure of what's going in to the patch and when it is coming out. The people who make those decisions and the people who announce it (me) have been doing this kind of thing for a very long time, and we learned our lesson long ago not to announce things until we're 100% sure. The feedback that occurs if we announce things that don't come about, or miss a date is much, much worse than the feedback for staying quiet until we're ready.

ID BE VERY HAPPY IF YOU TOLD US WHAT YOU WERE PLANNING ON PATCHING. YOU KNOW THERE A LOT OF TOP PLAYERS ON THIS SIGHT THAT WOULD GIVE YOU FEEDBACK ON WHAT THEY THINK OF YOUR PATCH IDEAS WHCICH WOULD REALLY IMPROVE THE PATCHES.

sorry for using caps lock but for some-reason i can never get bold to work on my computer.

I think that this is what we've been looking for for most of the time. Aloysius coming out and explaining why he does what he does. He's been doing what mods should do, that is, banning troublemakers. But he's never really explained why. Now, however, he's layed down the law about why, and people are responding positively.

    Aloy FTW.

I haven't checked these forums for months, I decided to check it out and searched your name to see if there was any info on updates or anything interesting like that. I can't let this get by without setting the record straight. I'm going to have to respond to this just incase anyone who wasn't around since the beginning actually believes this.

First off, I think you've done a good job with the community aspect Aloy and I appreciate how much you've posted here. This is the kind of stuff I do appreciate (I used to post on the old AoEIII forums before release and the developer interaction was great). So this isn't a personal vendetta or a flame, and I know you are not personally responsible for banning boosters, that's not your job. But this paragraph is a complete, absolute cop out, and I don't know how you can type this paragraph with a straight face. I'm going to hope that your co-workers tied you to a chair and threatened to make you watch Twilight while stabbing a broken thermometer into your eyeballs if you didn't post this. There is no way to explain it besides this.

There isn't much we can do about boosting. Playing legitimate matchmade games is playing legitimate matchmade games.

First of all, you're clearly (or at least hopefully) only talking about the form of boosting where you play with a new account to raise your TS. It is understandable that you cannot ban people for this. And you're right that you can not take a microscope to thousands of matches and try to determine who is playing with a new friend and who is playing with the intention of boosting. This is true. The fact that this is possible is a failure of the trueskill system, not of game moderation.

This is all besides the point because even non-legitimate matchmaking games were not taken care of, even when the players reported the matches directly to you. Matching up against another one of your own accounts and instantly quitting dozens of times is not a legitimate matchmaking game. And using the "we can't take a microscope to thousands of matches" is not a valid excuse when the matches are directly delivered to you in a PM and it involves upper-leaderboard play, greatly reducing the amount of matches you are required to look at.

There were even points where the people who boosted by matching up against themselves actually came on the game's official forums, admitted that they had done so, and even in the face of an admission and proof, still faced no repercussions Re-read that sentence again. This is absolutely unheard of on any major game by any respectable developer.

While I enjoyed Halo Wars a lot, Robot has done a shameful job enforcing the integrity of the online play, and no PR spin can fix that. Future Robot games will come with the asterisk that the online gameplay may not receive the attention it deserves. This isn't something that can be posted away on the forums, it's something that is tangible and does hurt the integrity of your games.

As for everyone else, I'll see you around, fun playing with you all, I just wanted to set the record straight on this post because it needs a proper rebuttal.

Aloysius:If you make a post stating that you are leaving the forums, I will delete your account.

This means that all of your posts will revert to an anonymous user with no signature.

This is not retroactive (meaning that if someone already posted one, their account will not be deleted).

Exception to this list: If you already made an "I'm leaving!" post and then continue to post, I will ban your account to help you achieve your goals.

This is to cut down on the attention-seeking posts that serve no purpose or benefit the community.

All posts that indicate a desire to leave the forums, or be convinced to stay, or anything in that broad category under my discretion will fall under these rules.

so now there will be less posts on these vacant forums

True skill only works when it is not shown.

Something that one cannot find, is something they cannot boost. As it proves nothing, no bragging, no name in limelight, nothing. All you see is that your are running TS 0 and playing against people that actually give you a match...yay!
