It's possible, but doubtful. They would possibly know as much as 343 Guilty Spark, which is perhaps why they only communicate to the Prophets.

Engineers gain more knowledge when there born(made) because if you have 2 engineers making one then m=both of those engineers will give the new 1 all there knowledge so the more engineers means more knowledge so the chances are they where used to help build tha halos and such so the knowledge would be passed down through the generations engineers know more than the halo monitors as engineers have there own language that very few can understand while monitors can talk english or any other language(i guess)

But the problem is with the engineers on the ark theory is that there where no engineers on any of the halos ( as far as we know) as non of ever been mentioned by AI or human/covenant so the chances of them being on the ark are slim though still possible.
and if you add the dam engineers where still in HALO CE's code then i;ll rip your arms off as they had no reason for them 2 be in game so they where taken out also why they wernt in the other games, until halo wars n then ODST where bungie decided to finally add a new enemy to the game and thats the best they could come up with

    Engineers can build more engineers???

Engineers look like living organisms in OSDT. They don't look or act like machines in that game either. But in halo wars they do... is it just because the view is so far away from them or is the engineer different in the 2 games?

Does any canon say if engineers replicate like cells or if they actually "build" more engineers from the world around them?

In ODST it's stated that they're "Organic Supercomputers."  The fact that one was able to download Vergil should be evidence enough. They're Forerunner artificial lifeforms, and reproduce via self-replication.

Here's a theory, what if the Engineer's weren't the only race created by the Forerunners?!

It was only necessary to create one race to maintain their tech.

well if they only communicate with the Prophets how you suppose we are going to obtian all the information for the engineer? I mean you can't just give the thing a pencil and paper and say have at it.

Re: Vergil And The UNSC *Spoiler Alert*

"Vergil" was most likely able to communicate with the UNSC, namely ONI, because he had "downloaded" the New Mombasa A.I. As far as the rest of the Huragok go, only the Prophets could understand their language, with the exception of a Grunt Deacon in Contact Harvest. The Prophets did their best to not allow the different races to speak with the Huragok.

Re: Vergil And The UNSC *Spoiler Alert*

Actually, that is incorrect, as in the book "First strike" i think it was Cortona communicated with the engineers on board the covenant ship they had captured, and, they can communicate using sign language.  If cortona can understand engineers, im sure her knowledge would have been passed on to many people; meaning that many people understand engineers.

Re: Vergil And The UNSC *Spoiler Alert*

What I meant was that they usually only communicate with the Prophets. In the Fall of Reach, it's said that they would only really pay attention to anything mechanical, not organic. This would explain why it "spoke" with Cortana, as she's non-organic. The only Huragok that I can think of that utilized sign-language was Lighter-Than-Some. His imbalance of gasses may have caused this anomaly, however.

It would be possible for an AI to translate for the UNSC in speaking with a Huragok (save Vergil,) though it's incorrect to say that people would understand the Huragok.

wait, in first strike she has to use a covenant translation software to send an audio message over the speakers so it knew chief was ganna take it to fix something. werent engineers also seen in some other games they just didnt do anything and you couldnt interact with them

Engineers are in the encoding for Halo 1 and Halo 2, but they were never actually used in game.

They are used in HWars as a healing unit, and in Halo 3:ODST they provide nearby allies with overshields.

Re: Vergil And The UNSC *Spoiler Alert*

ok so i think halo needs to decide if the engineer is a healing unit or a super computer that can provide nearby allies with overshields or both.

Given that they have a longer, more detailed canon background as a supercomputer/mechanic unit, I would go with that one. The healing unit I see as a balance to the UNSC's healing wave.

ok with that all cleared up lets move to the subject of engineers making others, I wanna know what makes some people think that they need materials to make others, don't you think they (like humans and other animals) can get together and produce offspring?

Re: Vergil And The UNSC *Spoiler Alert*

how do you know if they are living or non-living? just because we call them supercomputers doesn't mean there not living creatures, the term supercomputer can just be a label showing how smart the creature is.
