Ok, so i watched an interview on youtube with one of the designers of Halo ODST, and he was going through some gameplay and all the differences from the original triology. In this he said "no using covenant equipment".

From watching other gameplay videos i see them using covenant weapons, covenant grenades, a banshee ... so what happened to the no use of equiptment change?

He meant bubble shields, power drains, grav lifts, the stuff you deployed with the X button in Halo 3.  I'm going to miss that trip mine...*sniffle*

Actually, the trip mine, bubble shield, and power drain were developed by ONI,  but they hadn't fully streamlined usage yet, and the brutes got hold of alot of the stuff.
