    Halo Books

I've read them and liked them, but many people say that Bungie doesn't really claim them (don't know how else to put it) Also, that 117 is the last spartan, while in the books a few spartans survived. So the big ? I have, is are they just fan fiction or fact.

P.S. What is cannon? (sorry not up on my nerd lingo lately lol)

no the whole part that he is the last spartan is the mistake

and cannon is how everything goes (the true storyline) so when johnson dies in the legendary halo 1 cutscene it is non canon

The whole "last spartan alive" thing was to give the player the feel of "you die, the entire galaxy loses"

canon(not cannon, that's the thing that shoots cannonballs) is what makes up a universe.  The places, the people, the technology, everything really.

Well, since halo is a game and a book, it needs more than that.  It needs to have a halo "feel", it needs to "look" like halo and "sound" like halo.

    Well it works either way

PS, nothing more needs to be added to this, let it die

    Re: Halo Books

I'm pretty sure the books would be considered canon to the series. I've only read up to Ghosts of Onyx, and currently working on The Cole Protocol and then Contact Harvest, but the books don't really seem to alter the trilogy's storyline. The books DO make references to familiar characters like John, Jacob Keyes, and Sgt. Johnson but majority of it is backstories and early adventures. Aside from The Flood, which has Chief talking alot more than the game, the story flows smoothly.

Here I'll save you a few hours of your life, don't read the Cole Protocol. Harvest was great though

    Re: Halo Books

If you want some insight into the Rebels and want to read more about Jacob Keyes, then I'd recommend Cole Protocol.

Also, the books are canon, "for better or worse".

Canon is the laws by which something follows, that is the dictionary definition; and the same can be said about how it is used in Halo, or anything else. So just to clarify it's not really 'nerd' lingo.

And there is a canon hierachy; games, books, other.

    So yes books are canon.

Either the Fall of Reach or Ghosts of Onyx I'd say, their stories are very interesting. I loved Contact Harvest, but some stuff didn't seem to make sense in it.

Cole Protocol was ok, but it lacked the Halo essence the other books had.

And honestly the Flood was terrible, IMO.

    Re: Halo Books

Well this is off topic, but does anyone know if there will be a sequel to ghosts of onyx? I know next year they have plans for a forerunner trilogy but i've heard nothing about them rapping this up.

    Re: Halo Books

They're probably saving the entire post-Onyx and post-Halo 3 story for when they start to run out of ideas. Right now, prequels seem to be the focus.
