Halo- spartan armor shielding.... Useless to the war???

"Created parallel to the SPARTAN-II Program, the MJOLNIR Armor is currently the most advanced piece of tactical military hardware in human hands. Each suit alone costs as much as a small starship. The brainchild of Dr. Catherine E. Halsey, MJOLNIR is Halsey's attempt to create a powered exoskeleton capable of taking full advantage of the physical capabilities of a SPARTAN-II. The battlesuit is constructed in overlapping layers. It is a sealed system, capable of extravehicular activity or operations in toxic atmosphere. It is hardened against EMPs and radiation, and has filters that are completely effective at removing toxins and bacteria from local atmosphere. "

It could hold an Artificial Intelligence and had energy shields.

Ok if this is true why did they build these things?? if humans won most ground combat but lost in space combat like its said in the books... wtf why did they go ahead and developt the spartans armor shielding first???? why didnt they go straight from being able to produce our own shields like covenant shields into building starship shielding?????? just a wierd thought of mine after rereading the novels becuase i got bored and them keep talking about how the spartans owned without shields but theynever thought to get spaceship shields???? It says no attempt to produce ship shielding

    Thoughts??

I have one prominent thought; you need to fully explore the Halo novels and use common sense.

It was difficult enough for the UNSC to develop shielding for the MJOLNIR suits from Jackal's Personal Shields; do you know how hard it would be to develop a shield for a Frigate or Halcyon-class cruiser with that tech? *** near impossible.

Re: Halo- spartan armor shielding.... Useless to the war???

They developed Spartan shielding from Jackal's shields...

I would think that Covenant ship shielding would be more complex than a Jackal's personal shield, as it has to cover a much larger surface and it has to be able to open in certain areas when firing weapons. Seeing as how the UNSC could never dream of capturing and reverse-engineering a Covenant vessel or its technology, UNSC shielding would never happen.

Sure, if the UNSC was as retarded as you are.

Except that that ship wouldn't last against a barrage of plasma pistols, let alone a plasma torpedo.

Didn't Cortana capture a convenant ship at some stage? And wasn't one of the plans for the spartans to capture a covenant ship, fly it to their homeplanet and blow it up or something?

I'm not sure about Cortana, but Spartans have captured Covenant Cruisers in the past.

And the plan you're talking about is a plan devised by the UNSC to have the Spartans at Reach hijack a Covenant ship and fly it to the Covenant homplanet to capture the Covenant leader, and force a treaty to end the war.

"Die?"Kurt laughed."Didn't you know?"he told the Elite. "...Spartans never die."

Re: Halo- spartan armor shielding.... Useless to the war???

Well, the reason was, the UNSC was losing on the ground AND in space. They thought "Hmm. I bet if we won on the ground, we could stall the Covenant long enough to evacuate civilians/key personnel off the planet. Just think of the 2 choices.

#1. UNSC Super soldiers with shielding now

#2. UNSC Ships with shielding in a few decades.

    1. Yeah I sorta meant like someone or other captured it and Cortana piloted it and owned all the covenant ships with it for a while or something. idk I remember something about that.

     2. Close enough...

Cortana captured a Covenant vessel after the events occuring at Installation 04. Not enough time for the UNSC to reverse-engineer the shielding technology (IMO). Plus Earth had to prepare for invasion, since Sierra-117 and Cortana both witnessed a Covenant armada heading for Earth.

Spartan II's were assigned to the Pillar of Autumn before the Halo event to capture a Covenant ship. They were supposed to hijack it, use Cortana to navigate to the Covenant homeworld, and kidnap one of the Prophets. Didn't happen.

    No they haven't.

    Yes :)

The UNSC didn't develop shielding until 2552. There was no stalling, and that's not why they did it.

See the first quote, I think you'd be thinking of Halo: First Strike.
