    Re: The Warthog Thread

Pottinger's quote scares me. "Warthogs are too good". What warthogs? Pre-gauss warthogs are about as balanced as they can be, if Robot ends up nerfing gunner and grenadier hogs it's going to be a red flag that they put out patches as PR moves instead of seeking game balance, and will show they can't differentiate balance issues from community whining.

I'll be very dissapointed if this patch ends up being influenced by people that have no idea what they're talking about (like Cookie Crisp's thread yesterday where he said all top players spam gunner hogs - lol).

If Robot make changes to the hog based on people crying about losing, and not searching for game balance, then im out. I can not play a game where balance and improvements are decided by devs who are heavily influenced by 12 year old kids crying that they lost, then throwing a tantrum.

I know you posted it somewhere but what do you want them to do with the warthog in a simplfied version, I dont care what they do I hardly have a problem with them, face them, or build them so...

don't worry FJ. robots not stupid. they can tell when a lil kid is whining about hogs and when a 16 or 17 year old are giving constructive feedback on a game.

Robot (at least, Ensemble) has a history of listening to/hiring very good players to test their games. I remember back on AOE II they were involved with a lot of the top players to write strategy guides, get input on game balance, etc. So I do trust they'll do it right.

Pottinger's quote just scares me. I hope it's like the prophet fix, where the community was crying about the "prophet rush", but everyone good knew the real problem was that prophets could harass any covenant leader and UNSC player without warthogs by kiting (shooting and running). This meant that Arbiter and Brute had almost no chance to beat a good prophet player in 1v1. Good players didn't do a "prophet rush", they just harassed endlessly with their prophets 1:20 into the game while locking an army inside their base. RAYP mastered this, picking three prophets on every map and sharing #1-#2 on the 3v3 leaderboard (MiZ and W4RCRAFT - I played with W4RCRAFT and we always had at least two prophets for the same reason - kiting) and GB.

In the patch notes, though, I believe they said "this should help stymie (sp) the prophet rush a lot of players have been having troubles with)". But reducing the speed doesn't really slow down the prophet rush, just the prophet kiting. So they made the right change and made it sound like it fixed the newbies' problem. It was a good balance change wrapped into a PR move.

I'm hoping for a gauss nerf followed by "this should help the warthog rush that many players have been having troubles with", ha.

That post was needlessly long for an analysis of Robot's balance/PR philosophy.

    Re: The Warthog Thread

uhh.......gunner hogs are still too good. They make all regular infantry useless.

Gauss nerf is the biggest issue right now but the game would be a lot better if they nerfed gauss AND made infantry stronger. Either that, or make gunner hogs more difficult to get.

It would be nice to build marines for once instead of opening every single game with 5 hogs or a tank build.

This thread has nothing to do with how many warthog a person builds in an average game..

    Thanks for locking my thread.....

    Agreed, totally.

Actually, from what I understand, Warthogs aren't classed as vehicles, they're scouts, which are apparantly countered by marines, but that's just a joke. Like Cookie said, infantry should be stronger, at least against light armour.

Im against these threads becuase i dont think you (robot) read them. Its just to silence the people.

But, dont nerf the hogs, just the guass cannon. The damage to heavy armor needs to be reduced so that counter units actually counter them.

Yes I agree just make the guass cannon do 5% less damege or something

    5% isnt enough.

It should only be done to heavy armour and it should be liek 30%-40%

    Re: The Warthog Thread

Aloysius:We're seeing a huge increase in Warthog related posts. I'm going to be combining threads in to this one, so please post in here instead of starting up a new thread on warthogs.

Here's the official line on Warthogs:

Dave Pottinger, Halo Wars Lead Designer:
"We're looking at how to fix the Warthogs. They are too good; we get that. Trying to figure out the right fix:)"

Glad to see that this has been acknowledged... kind of hard to find out when there are 20 threads on the subject. Thanks, aloysius.

As for a suggestion... maybe gauss should be t4, or maybe just an overall stat tweak, like less attack power vs. armor and air. IMO a combination of both would be best, but I'm not a game designer.
