hi there
as some of you might know, starcraft 2 was announced a few days ago and there is already a lot of content released about possibilities of the actual game. in their website www.blizzard.com, there is already an in-game video you might want to check out while you read this text. you can also see it in youtube in case youre not as much as a starcraft diehard fan as i am.
main thing when someone talks about starcraft is that the original game was extremely well balanced, and constant game fixes and updates have lead to a better gameplay experience. starcraft is probably the most popular rts ever, and therefore it has a strong demanding fanbase, and because of the constant care bilzzard gives to the game it has been over and over again on major tournaments, like the world cyber games.
One would expect a game like Starcraft 2 to be as equally balanced as Starcraft 1 is. and still be a game any type of player enjoys to play. as for the types of players, in RTS games there are mainly 2 types. the rusher ones and the tactical ones. of course none of this names are "official" but thats the way people call them. Rushers rely mainly on large and fast armies and try to strike asap, in order to get a quick win. Tacticals on the other hand rely on small and powerful armies to strike critical points of their enemies and then choke the enemy. You might notice im talking about Zergs and Protoss. In the middle we have the average player that likes both, so Starcraft has the Terrans, that are properly balanced with the other races. but still no race can be considered superior, so the chances of wining and loosing remain only one skill of the player.
back on the demo, it goes all the way under a certain rythm of "i give, i take" that revolves around the protoss, showing their strengths and their weaknesses. mainly talking about new units and upgraded ones, you can see that as soon as they show a new unit (ie. Colossus) their ideal counter comes into play (Banelings), so you get the feeling that there will be no superior race again. plus, if you listen to the voice carefully enough, you will see he always says "in the hands of a skilled player", so again, we might see a competitive game.
