    Tactical Battle gamemode suggestion

    Hello,

In the light of recent discussion concerning rushing, I have thought up the following:

"Tactical Battle", the name of my new hypothetical game mode.

    It goes like this:
Each team gets a predefined set of units (composed to make up a varied army), a few reinforcement possibilities, and a set of powers.
I sugges the popcap for this mode be a bit higher than that of the standard game mode (to compensate for the fact that once a unit is dead, it's dead). There are no bases in here, it's all about the combat and the strategies herein.

Maps would be developed to offer lot's of tactical options, like ambushes, high ground for artillery units, cover for infantry, etc.

A certain degree of randomisation should also be implemented, eg: the army you start with can vary. Or reinforcement options are randomised and thus not the same for both/each player.

Pluspoints of this game mode are obvious, the game would appeal to a great many more players, especially those among us who find it boring to always have to play against rushers (this is not a thread about whether or not rushing is cool, strategic, or anything else, so don't post if you want to say your opinion on rushing).

The only disadvantage would be implementing it into the game engine, though I can't imagine leaving out bases and just placing some units on a map can be that hard. So this shouldn't be a real issue.

I'd love to get one of the dev's opinion on this.

As I stated in your other thread L0dex,

    Elabajaba:

I would quite enjoy this mode L0dex, but I don't know if it would happen, maybe as an update or dlc (hopefully), but if you really want a game like that, try playing the Total War series, they can be a real pain sometimes, but the battles are epic, usually long, and very fun. If you don't want to buy them, just play the demo or something, except they don't have powers, and they don't really have reinforcements (unless you position another one of your armies beside the enemy army in the campaign mode). I would quite like to see that, though they would probably have to improve their cover system for that to work properly (debris, blown up enemy vechicles, sandbags, think company of heroes' cover system, though that would mean that they would basically have to remake the game, and they wouldn't do that just for a patch or dlc).

Hey, have you tried EndWar? go play it. You'd love it.

EndWar doesn't have the Halo vibe though. Nor does it have a big unit cap, by far.
It just feels too limited to me.

This thread is not about EndWar. I am not interested in the game.

Sounds interesting.  I'm not sure that would appeal to a great many more players, though.  I think the default game where you can control everything is the 'core game'.

That said, game mode variety is something that's always nice in an RTS.  We will be able to talk about future plans for additions/evolutions at some point "soon".
